"Amazon Unlocks Vast E-Book Library for $10 a Month"

"Amazon on Friday introduced Kindle Unlimited, a new subscription service for e-books. The service allows customers to download and read as many books as they want from a list of more than 600,000 Kindle books for a monthly fee of US$9.99."

Included in the price are thousands of Audible audio books.

Amazon is offering a try-it-for-one-month-free deal to get customers on board with the service.

I can't read or listen to books fast enough to make this worth while. Would rather spend $3.99 on a book and take my time to get through it.

I already belong to a library.

I no longer have Prime because I can always wait a few days for delivery, but most importantly because those thousands of books available are rarely what I want to read. And I'll read most anything. As I understand it, Amazon is negotiating to get more publishers in their list, but as of now, not worth it.

By the way, I'm increasingly unable to find video I want on Netflix. Oh, No! I've become a curmudgeon.

No, they have a pretty crappy selection at this point. After I had worked my way through English cop shows I quit.

One thing I've found out about my Kindle is that it takes me forever to read a book because of the ability to open Wikipedia on anything I'm unsure about with just a tap on the screen.

I'm reading Richard Rhodes' "The making of the atomic bomb" right now. I may still be reading it this time next year.

But when I'm through, I'll know how to build an atomic bomb so it's not wasted time.

Did you know that you can download Wikipedia? The whole damn thing. Without pictures I think.

Did you see any of the Jack Taylor series starring Iain Glen? A former Irish cop turned P.I. My secret vice.

No didn't see this. They have a changing content list as they gain and lose copyrights. It was better when I first joined before the content providers decided they had too much power.

I might join again in winter. The good thing is you can leave and rejoin without penalty.

Fantastic popular science book. If you like this you may also like 'Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman', by James Gleick. The science is from a similar era. I can still remember the vivid descriptions of the contributions of Feynman, Schwinger and Dyson to quantum mechanics, while completely failing to grasp every the most basic understanding of what they actually did. The best science book I have read recently was also by Gleick, 'The Information: A History, A Theory, A Flood', where I had a much better grasp of the science and was impressed with how well it was presented.

I saw it ARM. It was pretty good. I highly recommend "The Fall" an Irish show starring of all people Gillian Anderson of the X-files with a cute Irish accent. Also from the Brits: Copper, Ripper Street, Luther, Primeval and The Paradise. Some of them were available on BBC America but they are on Netflix.

Amazon Prime Video is also pretty cool. I catch a lot of stuff there for free or a minimal fee. Well worth it.

The thing about kindle is that it is so easy to download books for a couple of bucks. Currently I am download Mafia biographies and Westerns.

Just finished three great books.

"Mob Boss: The Life of Little Al D'Arco" who was the acting boss of the Luchesse crime family who flipped.

"Grey Tide in the East" an great alternative history of World War 1.

"A Distant Bugle" a novel about the great General Armstrong Custer.

"Crow Paint" a Western.

That was the last two weeks reading material.

There's no comment section with books, is the trouble.
