"Spain might pass law that would make children do chores and ‘be respectful’"
A report in ABC, a Spanish-language newspaper, notes that lawmakers in Spain are advancing a measure that would make children under the age of 18 take, “co-responsibility in caring for the home and performing household tasks regardless of age and gender.” As the BBC reports, this isn’t the only thing the parliament-approved draft law would do.

This is so creepily presumptuous. The state setting out laws for peoples' children and assigning responsibility in the home.
[music] We believe the children are the future ... voters, that is. Future voters. Teach them well, groom them to be obedient.
Bust their asses. That's the traditional punishment designed to instill traditional expected behavior.
Well, that's pretty good Biblical doctrine, really.
I suggest the only appropriate punishment.

What's this "co-responsibility" crap. Make the brats fully responsible for all home upkeep. "Honey, get Mom and Dad another margarita before you start the laundry. Love ya."

Look at the potential upside. Now parents punishing their children can just cite the new law, and maybe their children won't get taken away over a spanking or whatever. Don't know if that's a problem in Spain or not, but it has been known to happen down here, even while the DCF puts children in real jeopardy by giving them back to clearly unfit parents.
It obviously takes a village.
After watching Frontline last night, perhaps it is a good idea. We're heading down THE government is now your daddy/mommy path anyway.
Do your chores. It's the law.
Soon, however, the Unions will smell blood and all our kids will have union representation and union contracts and the ability to strike. Total doom.
Hm... I donno. On the first hand I automatically think it's the most egregious government social engineering over-reach possible.
On second-thought I wonder if having it on the books would head off some of the super-dumb like that girl who was suing her parents for not paying for her college after she refused to follow their rules and moved out of the house in a huff.
