I eat at McDonalds occasionally so I don't have any trouble believing this. If you restrict calories sufficiently you will lose weight. This being said, the guy is still technically obese and not in great shape for 54 so I can't see McDonalds rushing to use this in an advertising campaign.
He also walked 45 minutes each day.
Once again, it's less what we eat than how much.

He could have eaten 2000 calories of butter & red meat every day, or 2000 calories of Kale, Yogurt, and Brown Rice and he would have lost the same weight.
I'm amazed he could lose 2 lbs a week on 2,000 calories and 45 minutes of walking. Just being 250 must burn a lot calories.
