We have a friend who is a big dog lover. She is a retired attorney, and very even tempered. This woman runs a no kill shelter. She would maybe shoot Michael Vick if she had the chance. No shit.
Nick, there are some dog lovers who think no-kill shelters can be cruel in their own way. If the dogs are just being warehoused, with little human interaction, it's not good. Sometimes it's more humane to put them out of their misery.
We went through this battle once and it wasn't fun then.
Nothing against you, deborah, but this was a running fight for, what?, 5 days and I think the fact her loyal commentariat stood its ground and refused to buckle (unlike the RINOs in Congress) made the final break inevitable.
So, no, ma'am, it's not that old and it's not at all good.
But the part that gets me is that we're supposed to feel all guilty over how we "oppressed" homosexuals (by doing what, not letting them have Pride parades?).
In the spirit Trooper evidenced...I want to post something, but I despise Blogging Heads. Can watch only a few minutes tops. BTW, which one of the videos did you intend we watch, the dog related one from 2008 (the oldie), or the Althouse & Loury one from day before yesterday (the goodie)?
I know...I survived, too :-] Now having Me comment on anything to do with Vick or dog fighting is tempting me to be at my vulgar worst. I hate anyone and everyone involved in any way, even just commenting favorably, with dog fighting. It is a major issue where I live. Not very crazy about the dismissiveness regarding *if he had beat his wife* blah blah, either.
I do better next time. Just your bad luck the TH sidebar had TOP featured ...that one I didn't watch.

It's a valiant effort on the part of Deborah. A quick review, off the top of my head, if I remember correctly.
There were almost no redeemable "good" characters in that story. To try to plum just one little aspect of it w/o doing a lot of work isolating that little morsel is tantamount to a near impossibility.
Nothing valiant, Lem. Just trying to throw up an interesting link. The old guy saying something non-PC plus his 'fuggedaboudit.' Kinda cute, kinda old school, hits the nail on the head. But then again player abuse of dogs is much rarer than player abuse of women.
Should I be upset that he owned dogs with the intent to fight or happy that he wasn't beating his woman/ any woman? Either case is a sorry state of affairs.... I respect neither.
BHTV does a sports DV and who do they get? 100 year-old LAMO Bob Lip-style. Who gives us the standard NYT liberal establishment viewpoint we can hear 24/7 on NPR/PBS/CBS/NBC/ABC/ESPN etc. etc.
I guess Keith Olbermann was unavailable that day. A perfect example of what's wrong with BHTV.
