Althouse noticed an inconvenient revelation in Rachel Jeantel's testimony, 3 weeks ago, when Rachel Jeantel (of 'creepy ass-cracker' fame) testified at the George Zimmerman trial.
An inconvenient revelation to the people that pushed for the trial.... mind-you.
An inconvenient revelation to the people that pushed for the trial.... mind-you.
Last night on CNN's Piers Morgan, Althouse heard it again and says she was reluctant to talk about it : "I told you this 3 weeks ago, but Drudge flashes it today: Rachel Jeantel says she warned Trayvon Martin that Zimmerman could be a gay rapist."
I do remember that.
I do remember that.
It turns out that it may have been Zimmerman, and not Trayvon Martin, that was profiled (Profiled mind-you) the night of the shooting, if Rachel Jeantel is to be believed. And that's a big IF, ladies and gentleman of the jury. Some reports said the prosecution had a hard time pinning her down on what exactly she had told Trayvon Martin over the phone, just before the shooting.
My question is, what do the leaders of a protected group say, when members of another protected group bashes them, in the name of defending the right to protect themselves?
Rush Limbaugh wondered something similar.
I thought, when I heard this last night, that that's all anybody'd be talking about today, because this throws this thing 180 degrees out of phase. So now Trayvon Martin, who is the recipient of full-fledged, 100% victim status? It turns out could well be a gay basher, and the left has been defending him. So what do they do? They have two interest groups here that they represent and champion: African-Americans and homosexuals, and in this incident, the object of their affection (in this case, Trayvon Martin), might have thought he was being pursued by a gay guy and beat him up, or tried to.The answer to my question is - nothing.... don't mind anybody.

They avert their eyes and pretend it didn't happen, otherwise their heads would explode from the cognitive dissonance.
Hey, they're just hard-headed. Extra strong bone to withstand the massive hypocracy pressure overload.
There must be a whole lot we can do with a deck of race cards. Fascinating games to play.
I think its more telling to hear the AG wanting to repeal "stand your ground" laws based on this trial, when this trial was about self-defense. I'm sure the AG knows the facts of the case, so I'm left with the conclusion that he is intentionally conflating "stand your ground" with self-defense to suggest we shouldn't have the right to self-defense.
As for the gay rapist, I don't know why Martin may have thought Zimmerman a rapist. However, if Martin thought that at all, and recognized Zimmerman as male, then he would have to conclude Zimmerman was gay. So, I'm not sure that's a big deal. I think the message, if I believe Jeantal at all, was that Martin was trying to defend himself. Ironically had he lived, Martin's defense (unless Zimmerman first assaulted), would have been based on "Stand your Ground".
That the members of the Democratic coalition loath each other except when they come together for the express purpose of doling out the federal cash can't be a surprise to anyone by now, can it?
About 40% of the Democrats' money comes from the Jewish community, and about 25% of Democratic voters are black. Both groups are absolutely vital to the Democratic coalition. If there are two more different ethnic communities in the US, I can't imagine what they would be. Sadly, what binds them together is a pretty ugly collective fantasy when you look into it.
I don't see the relevance except to the identity group obsessed. According to the evidence offered, regardless of his thinking, he chose to come back and attack someone who was not an immediate threat to him, and who was walking back to their car. Even a gay rapist wearing a shirt that says "Butt Pirate" has a right to self defense under those circumstances.
No one cares about Trayvon or Zimmerman or what happened.
It's a placeholder trial, so that injustices of the past (and there were many, many real injustices of the past) could be fixed.
He's black. He was killed by someone who is not black and has a white sounding name. That's enough.
We want injustices to be fixed, but some injustices can never be fixed. There's no putting Jim Crow laws right. There's no putting blatant racist decades right.
But people think that having some outcome to the trial would solve their outrage.
Even the "right" outcomes are steps that lead nowhere because there's no righting those historic wrongs. All people have left is the outrage, and while it's understandable outrage, it's also almost entirely not responsive to actual conditions or situations.
It's a cultural PTSD of sorts. And it doesn't care at all about individuals. It's about fixing what can't be fixed and being outraged until it is fixed.
Leftism tends to cannibalize itself with respect to its little pet narratives. In lefty world there are only protected classes and protected narratives.
Some reports said the prosecution had a hard time pinning her down on what exactly she had told Trayvon Martin over the phone, just before the shooting.
Rachel Jeantel is, simply put, stupid. She lacks wattage upstairs and may be incapable of finding a story and sticking to it. And I don't mean that she is lying, simply that it may be beyond her to stay on point for any but the most simple narratives.
Butters: I don't want to do it if it hurts or if it makes you get all sticky
I can'[t figure out why Matt and Trey hate Butters so much.
And it wasn't until watching their take on the BP oil spill ("I'm sorry.") that I realized that killing Kenny every episode wasn't simply a gag, but that they hate him too.
Those guys are just haters.
Yeah, that Choom has really brought people together.
Hey, you saying the President helped Trayvon's fist come together with George's nose?
The only thing I wonder about is why ANYONE would accept what this girl would say--She's got a room temperature IQ and apparently can't read or write. Yet she is now being quoted? appearing on talk shows? this country is truly fucked.
Easy to say that from your lily white community, Meade.
How about you go live in a borderline community next to some Section 8 and see how long it is before you profile, genius?
I swear, you academics are worse than worthless.
@Roger,
Yet she is now being quoted? appearing on talk shows?
You know this is not going to end well for Ms Jeantel. She will be used, abused, & then discarded by the professional race-baiters.
I hope she has some brighter & more mature family members looking out for her best interests, but, somehow, I doubt it.

Because, doncha know, blacks think being gay is a white thing.
Homosexual black men are either closeted "on the down low" or "bottom" punks who get f**ked, but don't do it to others.
In case, you haven't noticed, the attitude of blacks towards gays both in & outside of their midst, is, in a word, bizarre.
Blacks generally do not like nor favor homosexuality.
@Methhadras,
Blacks generally do not like nor favor homosexuality.
I tend to disagree a bit & here's why.
The notion of "gay" as an orientation or a flamboyant lifestyle against the grain lifestyle, they hate. It's "white". It's not their way.
But, the "punk" who likes to occasionally take it you know where, like in prison. Or, the "macho" down-low guy who pulls his weight & takes care of his family but likes men on the side. I think there's a quiet tolerance for such things among blacks.
It isn't something to be discussed with us honkeys, that's for sure.
Mr. Garrison: Anyway, children, as I was saying, the Hare Krishna's are totally gay.

Yes. Just ask Tawana Brawley how she benefited from her good times on the circuit with Rev. Al.
Trooper is starting to scare me. He is processing the IMDB database so rapidly I fear he too is a robot or at least a cyborg.

Now come on! If having sex with her didn't scare the shit out of him, then nobody could.
Well, now you've gone and done it. Don't you know that NOTICING THINGS is THE sin in modern America?
It's not injustices of the past.
Blacks believe that the only way to get stuff is take it from whites.
Their MSM-appointed leaders tell them this every hour of every day.
Nothing is going to change until they stop buying it.

This is why a “conversation about grace” won’t work.
Also, it really does take two to tango and the left/MSM don’t want to put past racial injustices behind us – it’s to their benefit for old grievances to remain raw.
This makes sense because the world of men is composed entirely of a) angelic homosexuals, b) satanic homophobes, and c) what I would describe as eunuchs.
I learned this on a blog I used to frequent but maybe I misunderstood.

"Get in their faces.
Punch back twice as hard".
Yeah, guess I am.
On the other hand, it doesn't make sense because I can't imagine a homophobe, satanic or otherwise, beating on a suspected homosexual without once calling him a faggot or a queer during the administration of that beating. I know I always do.
Possibly the new school generation has other homophobic insults of which I am not aware.

I don't know. A lot of my black male friends express a great distaste for it and they are fairly adamant that their families aren't very fond of it either. If you look at the prop. 8 the exit polls say that over 70% of blacks backed it and voted for it.

Can we just put the word Democratic to bed once and for all. There is nothing, and I mean nothing democratic about the Democrat Party. Hate it when they are called the democratic party.
@Methadras,

I don't disagree. It's just that what blacks find so distasteful is what they consider the white notion that there is a "gay identity" as a permanent orientation. If you find the idea of gay identity repulsive, you're really going to find gay marriage repulsive.
But that doesn't mean that one necessary finds the idea of a little same-gender sex on the side as repulsive.
Strangely enough, the black community's idea of gay sex tracks much better with ideas of same sex attraction in the Hellenistic & Roman world than do the views of the modern gay community. A good write-up on those views can be found in John Boswell's book.

Next time, Rush should consult with one of his engineers before he talks about things being 180 degrees out of phase.
The only thing I wonder about is why ANYONE would accept what this girl would say--She's got a room temperature IQ and apparently can't read or write. Yet she is now being quoted? appearing on talk shows? this country is truly fucked.
Look at how she is being interviewed, and by whom. All of her media interviewers have been white and mostly liberal white men. She is being put onto television (hello Piers Morgan) as a freak show that plays into racial stereotyping. This is being done by liberals.
Most lynch mobs are motivated by the perceived need to protect vulnerable members of their group - classically, Southern whites worried about the offended virtue of their womenfolk. The whole point of public order law is to disassemble the mobs, and to restrict private violence strictly to the case of immediate self-defense. I'm not thrilled to have been informed that California apparently has a "right to pursue" clause to its definition of legal self-defense. That goes well beyond "stand your ground" into difficult terrain.
It seems like both Martin and Zimmerman had visions of knight-errantry that led them to the mutual confrontation, Zimmerman a more white-knightish variant, Martin an adolescent street-bully version.
Folks have pointed out that there *is* a problem with young black men, and there has been since the mid-Sixties. The problem is that they carry the swaggering bullshit machismo culture of the Old South with them, as if they were the true cultural heirs of those brutish, duel-mad South Carolinians and Mississippians who lived by the sweat of other men's faces. It's just that the modern-day carriers of the Southern Way live off the welfare dole - or the wages of their women, or parents, or drug dealing, or what have you, instead of the slave labor, or slave trading, or open frontier banditry of their white predecessors.
I don't know that more formal education is the answer, because I suspect and fear that culture precedes education, and lays the predicate for how much education can help. And furthermore, the form of education for young testosterone-addled adolescent males must fit their hormonal requirements. The Southern tradition for *that* is Football, or military school. For a while there, it was also Boy Scouts, but that's gotten kind of fusty and always had more than a bit of "Things White People Like". My troop, when I was a scout, had a bunch of (subcontinental) Indians, but no blacks, although to be honest, I think there were more Indians in my school district than blacks, so that was statistically likely.
Trayvon Martin was a troubled youth long before he decided to confront someone in the dark in his father's girlfriend's neighborhood. We can't magically reassemble nuclear families for the Trayvons out there; what else can we do to get them through their problematic hormone-crazed years intact and reduce the threat they pose to themselves and others?
Anyone who can figure out a ThugLifeLite Scouts program for the successful socialization of problem teenagers would easily earn the respect and admiration of the country.
(And while we're asking impossible or merely improbable things, can we get black parents to stop making up random goddamn names? I have the damnedest time keeping Martin's name straight. I keep wanting to call him Treyvon.)
That woman, Rachel Jeantel, is the face of the casual anti-white racism and homophobia of the black community that always gets swept under the rug by the left.

I doubt he did. That isn't a typical male response to being followed, even for someone who grew up in the Hood like Martin.
In my experience that's a more typical female response to being followed. Especially when combined with the idea about not leading the "pervert" to your house. Tracy and Trayvon Martin couldn't have handled Zimmerman between the two of them?
I'd lay odds that the whole rapist angle is nothing more that Rachel Jeantel putting words in Trayvon's mouth.

I've been wondering about that myself. There seems obvious she was coached, and apparently, she felt like she couldn't talk about certain terms on the stand. Her whole diatribe to Anderson about "Nigger" and "Nigga", makes me wonder if Martin might have actually said (if he talked to her at all, because I have some doubt there), "some nigga is following me". Jeantal would have thought nothing of it. But to a person not of Jeantal's generation (like the jury), it sounds like even Martin recognized Zimmerman is black.
That's just a bit of speculation, but I do wonder why she felt compelled to have this discussion after the trial.

And that's almost certainly where I picked the idea up, if not directly from a Sowell column or extract (I haven't read the book) then from some half-forgotten review of the Sowell book. I recognized it as a Narrative with strong memes - the two cultures certainly share rhythm and rhyme. The notion has tragic resonance.

Based on what I saw of her (now deleted) Twitter feed, she seemed to relish the attention she garnered as the last person to talk to Trayvon. It will be interesting to see how she tries to capitalize on it.
