The New York City Mayoral Race is a canary in the coal mine for the arc of political efforts in this country.
The Republicans nominated Curtis Sliwa a fucking clown if there ever was one. He is the leader of that bullshit group the Guardian Angels and a radio host on WABC. Look this guy was a publicity whore from the get go. A conservative version of Geraldo Rivera. He has a long history in New York of lying and bogus activity. This is the best the Republicans can come up with?
They are just conceding the election. Which they have done in other places like California and Portland and Minnesota. The Republican Party and the so called conservatives have decided that there not enough normal people to elect someone in these deep blue shit holes. The normal people have mostly moved out. Instead of trying to energize the more conservative Latino or Asian electorate they ran a joke candidate. Everything bad that happens to NYC is well deserved. More than 20 firehouses have closed because the fireman refuse to take Fauci's vaccine. The cops are in the same boat as thousands have been suspended. Paramedics too. The wheels are coming off the bus.
Just think about it. The best they can come up with is Curtis Sliwa.

IIRC it was only 20% of NYC's eligible voters that came out in the last 2 elections, 85% voted for De Blasio. Either the candidates or the electorate suck so bad that they can't even dig up 16% for a single decent candidate.
Oh my! De Blasio filed to run for Governor of NY.
My brother, who has lived in NorCal since the early 80's, said that the Cali R Party is so useless because mostly non-mainstream Republicans (meaning farther right than the common man) are the only R's masochistic enough to run for office and get trounced. It's become a self perpetuating cycle and so a large number of D seats remain unopposed.
Perhaps, but from The Stupid Party it probably won't happen, the Cali R's will learn from Mr Durr of New Jersey regarding the D he was running against would only get 30,000 votes (where there were some 200,000 potential voters) and all he needed was 30001 votes in an area that was reddish purple.
