WLEM AM

For the curious, I redirect you here

My new roost will be east of the mighty Mississippi, and so I changed the call letters from KLEM FM to WLEM FM. Deborah originally invented that handle, but she seems to have abandoned them. So I'm going to squat on them. She can have them back if she files a claim with me.

Well, there you go. First off - condolences - that's quite a loss. Second, congratulations for making it 33 years - that's 10 more than I did.

I was at work when my divorce was finalized and my buddy from Somerville NJ dragged a portable stereo out onto the patio, scrounged up some cigars and we sat outside smoking and listening to Free Bird. That had never occurred to me, but I guess it is a thing.

Here's to your new life - may your spirit lead you in ways that bring you happiness. Dive deep into your work and you will be fine.

As a side note I looked at a map - turns out that all of Wisconsin is east of the Mississippi - who knew? I sure didn't. Welcome to the correct side of Big Muddy.

Thank you for sharing this news of change and new direction, endings, and beginnings chickelit.

Changes in attitudes, changes in latitudes are the words that came strongly to mind as read your two posts. I almost dismissed them, but they lingered so I went to the source tp find the order reversed, along with the surprise mention of Paris, sailing, and laughter!
May adjustment and forward motion be yours, chickelit.

"Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes"

I took off for a weekend last month
Just to try and recall the whole year.
All of the faces and all of the places,
wonderin' where they all disappeared.
I didn't ponder the question too long;
I was hungry and went out for a bite.
Ran into a chum with a bottle of rum,
and we wound up drinkin' all night.

It's those changes in latitudes,
changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same.
With all of our running and all of our cunning,
If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

Reading departure signs in some big airport
Reminds me of the places I've been.
Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure
Makes me want to go back again.
If it suddenly ended tomorrow,
I could somehow adjust to the fall.
Good times and riches and son of a bitches,
I've seen more than I can recall

I think about Paris when I'm high on red wine,
I wish I could jump on a plane.
And so many nights I just dream of the ocean.
God, I wish I was sailin' again.
Oh, yesterdays are over my shoulder,
So I can't look back for too long.
There's just too much to see waiting in front of me,
and I know that I just can't go wrong
with these..."

chick, I hope you all are happier in the end. I know you love Wisconsin so you are home. I'm guessing this is the evening cruise your brother and his bride planned?

Thanks you guys! I'm on the road. Tried to stay the night in Flagstaff -- a town I've long admired -- but everything was booked up. Same in Winslow. So I kept pushing to Holbrook, AZ from where I write this. I'm pushing on to Colorado today. Planning on meeting up with Darcy and her husband in Denver on Sunday.

Safe travels, CL, and avoid women in flatbed Fords in Winslow, okay?

But do say hello for me when you see Darcy - she is a ray of sunshine.

driven that route many times, but never this time of year. must be beautiful. flagstaff is a nice college town. last time i was there was in winter after a blizzard. snow banks at intersections were 10 feet.

surprised you didn't take 15 to 70 if you're headed to denver.

@ndspinelli: It's part of letting go of the Southwest. I've done I-70 countless times but I-40 and what's left of Route 66 much less. I have a fondness for NM that I'll for another time. Tonight I'm staying at the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, NM. If you misread that, click here. Doc Holiday convalesced here.

I stopped short of the Colorado border because I want to see Capulin tomorrow morning. Maybe bike around if possible. I'm expected at Darcy's early evening. I'm 4 hrs away right now.

I like that area, too. I have been to LV NM, Shiprock, and then on to Mesa Verde. Beautiful sights in that neighborhood.

i love nm too. don imus ranch was/is just outside las vegas. i like to take state roads. taken the scenic drive to taos and past the national boy scout camp philmont. enjoy your literal and metaphorical journey. i would not eat in raton. although i have had good meals in boca raton. lot of doc holiday history in those parts.
