2019 crop

Isn't it pathetic?

It's 10X more than anyone else around here. These grew in the shade. Half the day.

One smallish red tomato must have fallen to its death because it was there last night. That was the kind of tomato that grows psychedelic when it gets enough sun.

Cosmic eclipse

Alas. It never had a real chance.

The melons grew but didn't produce, the watermelon grew but didn't produce. The cucumbers barely produced but tasted great. The beans did poorly and they're still out there to freeze. The tomatoes did poorly but the ones that grew tasted speck-tackle-lure.

Lots of chiles are still out there. Only three Peter-peppers grew from six different plants. They're still out there to freeze. Only one plant survived.

The caladiums did poorly but I planted a lot of them and they did finally come up but rather late and small. The oxalis triangularis came up nice and tall but more sparsely than previous years.

The elephant ears were the small kind and they grew very well.

Zucchini grew wildly and bloomed but didn't produce.

The sunflowers came up and bloomed but poorly due to lack of sufficient sun. They were all spindly deprived plants.

Original petunias did very well. Better than expected. They kept getting larger and more profuse better than nursery petunias and without the weaknesses of nursery petunias.

Two types of marigolds, short and tall, both came up and bloomed well enough but not spectacularly. The tall ones are more foliage than bloom.

Coleus from seed did very well in two spots and less well in two other spots.

I killed a million plants and a hundred survived. And of the survivors a few did okay. That means I'm learning.

All of this was from seed. I never did go to a nursery this year. And I still have quite a lot of soil amendments along with Boogie Brew and worm castings. The only kind of poop allowed and that doesn't count the way chicken poop does. Or bat guano. Or cow poop, or those other gross things that invite flies.

And now I have a much clearer idea how to get started for next year.

Veggies require lots of sun. I suggest you move.

Porch garden bounty is not pathetic at all! Looks great (or grate if viewed from afar in its natural state).

I have sunny balcony envy.

There are apartments here that get a lot more sun than mine does. I thought of moving a bunch of times.

I've also thought of supplementing with artificial lighting to compensate for my sun-related-shortcoming.

But then, I'm doing this to have a lot of plants out there in the summer, not necessarily to feed myself. I just want to watch things grow. To see what works and what doesn't.

So far, the ratio between what works and what doesn't work is a million to one.

Nevertheless the place looks like a jungle.

Greta's coming to Denver! Greta's coming to Denver!

Tomorrow noon at Civic Center Park. You could go and apologize for your carbon sins.

Hope she's bringing a coat.

Also, please note my request that future Denver weather concerns should feature CBS4 meteorologist Lauren Whitney.

She's not Mexican weather girl quality but she's better looking than that skank featured earlier.

Green Acres is the place to be.

Civic Center Park is 2 blocks north.

Thanks for the warning. Jeeze, she's still in the United States. People are still listening. Good grief.
