The election was for public offices. Almost entirely all Democrats. B-o-o-o-r-e ring.
However there were also two ordinance initiatives.
One would make it legal for homeless to set up tents on public property. Chiefly parks.
The second was to decriminalize possession of psilocybin mushrooms.
Denver voted no to both.
Denver voters saw through the cynically titled "Right to Survive" initiative, characterized as addressing homelessness. Denver now votes reliably Democrat having been flipped by gigantic influx of voters arriving from California, but the voters are not entirely stupid. They know full well the real issue is drugs, not homelessness, so call a thing what it is and discuss it as such or just shut up. The initiative supported by DNC and ACLU and Occupy Denver lost by a very wide margin, 17% (for) to 83% (against) and that right there is 100%.
They came from California for good reasons, and that is just one of them.
The initiative to decriminalize magic mushrooms lost by narrow margin, 48% (for) to 52% (against), which means keep trying until you get what you want.
It's not officially over. They're still counting. But the initiative's chances are fading.

It's never over until they win. I watched a doc on some old bag's effort in a New England town to ban plastic water bottles. I think she picked up on it from one of her indoctrinated grandchildren. The town voted on it multiple times always rejecting her proposal until the last one where it barely passed. But dollar to donuts no one will ever get to vote to repeal it. There wasn't a litter problem or any environmental problem that was pointed out and I inferred the reason was an anti free market choice. The main opponents were the town's grocers. The old woman's argument was the town's tap water should be good enough for everyone.
The people pushing this seemed to be very affluent. One of her allies was jetting off to Italy the next day. I may be mis-remembering but I think the high flyer was from California.
Well there you go. I just read mushroom legalization passed in Denver. Just keep counting the ballots until you win. Good luck up there.
Looks like they stumbled upon the number of ballots they needed to pass this. What a coincidence!
