Within four hours Democrats in the House passed a bill that reopened the closed portion of government.
Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, the most awesome political team since Mark Anthony and the seventh Cleopatra, delivered a joint speech in which they express their hope that President Trump learned his lesson. Here is their speech if you care to watch it.
I do not pretend to understand President Trump nor his particular vision of statecraft and brinkmanship, but I think he is positioning himself as a man who cares for Americans more so than Democrat leadership who would be just as satisfied with government shut down and the lives of government workers disrupted, and wide open borders with no checks on illegal immigration.
But I really don't know.
I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. This was in no way a concession. It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, it’s off to the races!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) January 26, 2019
I do know President Trump trusts Pelosi and Schumer to do the most malevolent things politically possible and reliably so. They are predictable. He did tell the story about not trusting the snake repeatedly throughout his campaign. So he's allowing government workers to be paid temporarily, allowing the contrast between himself and Democrat leadership to display, then within one month back to the same border issues again. And nobody trusts Pelosi or Schumer to learn anything. They're both old dogs with limited old dog tricks. And they're both dealing with someone new to their experience not limited to typical Republican imagination. Democrats are all spit and venom, hellfire and ruthless revenge confronted with Trumpian chaos. While speaking unscripted, Pelosi shows indications of dementia and Schumer is broken down and busted, while at his age, President Trump appears top of his game.

You got it.
The Demos have shown they don't give a damn about anybody but themselves, killing 2 bills that would allow some, particularly the Coast Guard, to be paid.
Remember, 83 dimensional stealth virtual ninja chess.
The "deal" he struck with Congress after the shutdown he could have had without it. It's hard to see what he gained. Sure, he can threaten to shut the government again, but how credible is that? After another 30 days, will he sign another such deal? How does that advance him?
Yes, he can threaten to use unspecified presidential powers to build the wall, but if that's true, again he didn't need the shutdown, and he certainly didn't need to go 30 or so days.
Right now, it sure looks like he's been bluffing.
I agree. I think this is the worst mistake of his presidency.
The only way he redeems himself is if he declares a national emergency and uses Defense Department funds to build the wall. Of course they will take it to the Courts so he should do it in Texas and shop for a judge who will issue an injunction that will hold off the "Hawaii" judges. If some other judge issues a stay he should ignore it the way Andrew Jackson did until it is decided by the Supreme Court.
See, that's what I was thinking - he has a plan, he is just not showing his cards yet. Time will tell.
It's the end of the 3rd round of the heavyweight championship and the champ took some hard punches after winning the first two. The fans of Nanchuck, the challenger, are going crazy and are thirsty for blood. Nanchuck gloats and waves at the fans then turns around expecting to see a dejected champ, not the crouching tiger that springs out of his corner after the bell.
Will there be a knockout or will it go fifteen rounds? Trump didn't get elected to bore people in the manner of his predecessor. The way things are going is probably the way it's going to be.
He’s fighting for what is necessary, giving the establishment the opportunity to do this obvious thing the easy and efficient way instead of taking the Hawaiian judge route.
