I was stunned by the crowds.

Benny Johnson writing for Daily Caller puts up a very nice post about traveling to see George H.W. Bush honored at the U.S. Capitol. Actually, he was traveling then got home to Washington D.C. then went to the Capitol emphasizing how cold it was in the 30s, and you know in that Southern humidity the chill goes right to the bone, even so, the line of people to get into the Capitol began blocks away from the rotunda, the line of mourners ran the length of the Capitol back and forth seven times. One of the Capitol Police officers estimated 5,000 people.

The article is beautiful. Respectful. Written with a sense of awe and humility. The photographs over there at Daily Caller are gorgeous. All Getty Images by Brendan Smialowski, Drew Angerer and Jim Lo Scalzo-Pool.

He left after midnight and returned the next morning at 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. All the visitors were gone. A Capitol Police officer told him they all got in and he was on his third shift.
I asked him if this is what he signed up for, standing in the cold conducting crowd control for hours on end into the wee hours of the morning.
“You’re damn right,” he said proudly.
The comments at Daily Caller to this article are unworthy.
