May the fourth hottest Lois Lane rest in peace.

Margot Kidder has passed. Most noted for playing Lois Lane in the original Superman movie with noted horseman Christopher Reeve she had a long and varied career. Also noted for one of the most spectacular flame outs where she literally went crazy and ended up homeless and on the street because of mental illness.

One of the things I found most interesting about her was what I read about her many years ago in the book "Easy Riders, Raging Bulls" which was a history of the early years in Hollywood with many of the famous directors who made so many great movies in the 1970's. She was part of a group of actors and film people who hung out all the time with Francis Ford Coppola, George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg. Spielberg was really in love with her. Hopelessly madly in love but she wouldn't give it up. So he turned to Amy Irving who baited her twat and caught him. Margot always regretted that. She would have been on Easy Street. Instead she ended up shit faced and in the bag.

Let that be a lesson to all you young actresses. Don't listen to that Me Too bullshit. Give it up. But make sure he puts a ring on it.

(Bonus question. Who were the three hotter Lois Lanes?)

Amy Adams, Noel Neill, and Christina Hendricks.

Only Noel is on the list.

I don't remember Christina Hendricks playing Lois Lane. If you are right that pushes poor Margot down to fifth.

Terry Hatcher is #1 in my book.

I liked Margot's work in Superman II. That is all.

You have two of the three. Noel and Teri. The third is harder. I mean it makes you harder ....err you know what I mean.

I see that Christina did play Lois albeit in a voice over. Still that counts so Margot slips another slot.

I don't care if Christina did or didn't play Lois. I just want to play with Christina. Is that so wrong? Thank you.

She appeared in the best Superman movie and that counts for something. Amy Adams is a more accomplished actress but there was no visible magnetism going on between her and Superman. The interaction between Margot and Christopher Reeves was definitely sexy. Teri Hatcher had more sex appeal but, again, one never got the impression that her and Superman had the hots for each other in the way it happened in the first of Margot's Superman movies......Margot was quite the kidder, but you had to catch her in the right mood, especially when she was falling off buildings.

Uma Thurman? Phyllis Coates? Final answers.

Wiki - Google Margot Kidder, and you'll find out that she had issues.

It's an obscure one Windbay. Erica Durance who played Lois Lane in Smallville. Check her out sometimes. Very, very sexy.

Just looked it up. Sixty nine. Way too young to die. I think the thing, or one of the things that made her interesting was that she was clearly a neurotic. That's all I got.

Ms Kidder, whose bipolar problems went untreated, couldn't compete with the stacked hourglass that was Noel Neill.

windy is right about Phyllis Coates, but it's Noel everybody remembers.

Noel Neill was great.

Nah, you're all wrong. Margot was by far the hottest.

Way hot.

On Margot: She went to 11 schools in 12 years; her first suicide attempt occurred in her teens.

Curiously enough, good old sweetness shows up twice in the two articles I read.

One in her reference to what life in the 60's was like: We were sweet lovely people who wanted to throw out all the staid institutions who placed money and wars above all else. When you're young you think that's how life works. None of us were famous, we were broke. We didn't think they'd be writing books about us in 30 years. We were just kids doing the right thing."

No, you were gullible, which is what happens when a foundation of trust doesn't for and going along to get along is how one learns to cope. You also weren't just kids doing the right thing, you were kids doing what worked for you.

And the other, comes at the end of the wiki Allen mentioned: Reacting to her death, actor Mark Hamill stated on his Twitter feed "On-screen she [Kidder] was magic. Off-screen she was one of the kindest, sweetest, most caring women I've ever known. Your legacy will live on forever"

Sweetness is the coping behavior, kindness and compassion are the byproducts of suffering and trauma that's been endured, survived and transformed. It's easy for me to believe all three noted were present.

From People mag: Always a natural performer, Kidder added, “I thought in acting I could let my real self out and no one would know it was me.

Along with this Thomas Wolfe shout out: Still, Kidder did take some pride in aspects of her disease, noting that Lord Byron, her favorite poet, and novelist Thomas Wolfe also had bipolar disorder. “When you listen to Beethoven’s Ninth, you get pleasure,” she said. “A manic-depressive gets rapture.

Loved her in Boston Common. Played a nutty drama teacher:

One need not be bipolar to appreciate the majesty and transcendence of Ludwig van's 9th. Maybe it helps, I don't want to know.

Having lived around bipolar people I have seen the toll it takes - even the most brilliant person cannot overcome it. It is a devastating disease and I think she did well to make it to age 69.

One of her last roles was in Smallville which also coincidently was one of Christoper Reeves last roles.

They specialized in giving bit parts to people who had been in prior incarnations of Superman.

I had never seen this show and started watching it when I got the Hulu streaming service. It was pretty good.

So I was shocked when the girl next door Chloe character turned out to be running a sex cult. Great Caesars Hard On! Who-a-thunk it?
