Mason Ramsey, boy yodeler

The link on Drudge is titled "Walmart yodeling kid wows Coachella" and goes to USA Today that shows a view from the stage behind Mason Ramsey showing crowd with their noise obliterating the song. The USA Today article also shows some disparaging Twitter remarks.

He was also on The Ellen Show where we get a much better idea of what this is about.

Aw, Bless. He cries.

By then, $15,000 ought to cover 1 semester hour if he's lucky.

That kid is pretty good for his age. Yodel/singing is hard. A little bit of yodeling goes a long way though.

We used to.... had to... listen to this style of singing back in the late 50's and early 60's when my parents would take us back and forth across the country on Route 66 for work and extended trips. AM radio was basically what we had in our cars and in the South West (Arizona, New Mexico, Texas) it was a lot of country western. It drove us crazy LOL

Frank Ifield was one of those yodeling artists that I actually liked to listen to once in a while.

Mary Robbins El Paso haunted us all across the trip. Just when one station would fade out....bam....the next station with Out In the West Texas Town of El Paso would be on. It was the ONLY FREAKING SONG they seemed to play. GAH!!!!

@ ricpic

I don't actually watch the Ellen show and only seem to see her on clips like this.

It seems to me that she really listens to her guests and actually enjoys interacting with them. Friendly questioning instead of interrogating. Amused at her guests (like this boy) yet not condescending. Laughing but not laughing AT in a mean way.

Ellen seems like someone that I could spend a bit of time with, have a beer and a few laughs.

Okay, I've gotta say something "controversial" about people who do that whole "I'm just a country boy" bit. In my experience that's a persona, a front for the frequently very shrewd very tough customer behind it. That may or may not be true of this kid. My guess is he's quite aware and building the persona already.

I like Ellen a lot. Basically, DBQ nails it. She's funny in a nice way, but truly funny. I haven't watched many of her shows, but I appreciate her gimmick of going up and dancing through the audience at the beginning of her show:
