Birds!

I saw this robin in my yard this afternoon. I had to sit still for a half hour in order to get this picture, but it was good to be outside, still, and just watch the birds being birds.

The Song Of The Pedophile Robin

The juiciest worms come up when it's still cold,
Not schooled in the ways of us birds like the old,
Not fibrous, not wily, with nary a frown --
I snap 'em right up and I swallow 'em down.

Would it be possible to add ricpic to the list of contributors? We need a poetry corner here and his work really classes up the joint.

He is a regular Ogden Nash rambler, he is.

I respectfully decline that steady job. Ya think a layabout artiste can come up with inspiration on schedule?!

If a robin would land outside of my house right now, it would be easy to take it's picture, because it would be froze stiff. Consider yourself lucky. It ain't warmin' up.

I've been humping across the country the last couple days, headed to San Diego. Lincoln, NE last night; Golden, Co. tonight. It was 5 degrees when I left MN on Wed, it was 61 when I got to Colorado. Got to get through the Rockies before a snowstorm Friday night/Saturday. I'll be in Butch Cassidy area in Utah tomorrow. I usually like to take my time but circumstances are different this year. Usually I would have been in San Diego in early Jan. C'est la vie. I just enjoy the day.

Robins seem like the most congenial birds the way they hang around people sometimes. Then two of them will blow that image by getting into a big fight over something, maybe one of those juicy worms ricpic mentioned or more likely two males fighting over a female if it's spring.

As a kid in Pennsylvania, I used to watch robins every spring and summer for hours hunting nightcrawlers, but living in L.A. I had not seen one for decades. I have them here now in my yard in Las Vegas. I don't understand why they live here and not in L.A..
