Tropical yet topical

Is it just a coincidence that tomorrow's winter storm is named what it is named? I think not. Poof.

Not so much a storm as a depression.

This business of naming every snowstorm as if it was a hurricane is a joke. The Weather Channel really needs to get away from the Global Warming thing.

I have gotten over my objections to naming storms, although I don't refer to them by name myself, as there was a time back in the 1930s, say, when hurricanes were not named. The big storm that hit Long Island in 1938 was unnamed and is now known as the big storm that hit Long Island in 1938.

I remember Hazel in 1954 which was just a few years after hurricanes were first named. Since then, Hugo and Fran were memorable, Matthew was just a couple of years ago and I am still working with wood from trees it knocked down.

So I don't mind it, don't actually pay the Weather Channel any mind come to think of it, and maybe rather than just sensationalizing the weather it will help keep storms straight.

For blizzards all you really need are the year and location. The blizzard of '75 hit Nebraska and Iowa hard.

All this horseshit naming of winter storms is about scaring people and giving the "monster" a name.
