They're shooting off the fireworks around the city.
I think I'm hearing the ones on the 16th St. Mall.
The explosions used to drive my Belgian sheepdogs nuts. They thought we were under attack. Poor things were helpless.
Then one day in summer I drifted off on a lounge chair outside when fireworks were shot off in the neighborhood and I heard the sound like a dog does. I'm certain of it. And I understood the terror. It's two sounds, the origin of the pop, the launch, then the sound waves outpacing it BLAM much closer. It sounds like imminent attack. Like mortars exploding very close. Like this
pop ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) ) BLAM! ) ) ) )
And I'm sitting there going, oh you poor thing, no wonder you freak out so badly. You hear this worse than I did just now.
And my dog looks at me like, próspero año nuevo y felicidad. PSYCH!
Not to rub it in.....but we are having an exceptionally warm winter so far. The high today should be almost 60, when normally it is around 35 as a high with lows in the teens or single digits at night. Weird weather :-(
This isn't good, because we haven't had much precipitation to build up the snow pack in the higher elevations.
The plants and birds are very confused right now. Is it spring or what?
We will get our comeuppance soon though and it will change like a snap of the fingers to our normal. (We hope)
The lack of precipitation is a problem around here, too. It is masked by the cold, but we are nearing extreme-drought conditions.
I was playing stick with my dog the other day, I threw the stick and where it hit my lawn a cloud of dust blew up.
If this winter is like previous La Ninas, we will catch up on our rainfall in February. Then I will complain about all the rainfall. Yep, that's how I roll.

Still counting down out here...

The best in this new year to all the Lemmings.

Happy New Year, all!
One thing that the new year didn't bring is warm weather. Oh well, Happy New Year to all!
