"Trump insults 'short and fat' (and nuclear-armed) Kim Jong Un"

Via MSN News: President Trump took time off from his morning in Vietnam to exchange insults with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
"Why would Kim Jong-un insult me by calling me 'old,'/ when I would NEVER call him 'short and fat?'" Trump said during a Sunday morning tweet storm in Hanoi that included a defense of his recent meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump added: "Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!"
What do you think is the Trump strategery here?

My best guess is that this was inspired by the Chinese people and their unabashed love for Trump and Trumpisms.*

They admire his frankness and they are no fans of the NORKs.

Notice Trump's avoidance of offending all the other Asians by refraining from the obvious personal stereotype, the one most convenient, the one most offensive, the one with the greatest hysteria potential from friends and detractors alike. The one that South Park exaggerates with impunity. No. Trump didn't do that. And that's real class right there.

He's showing Li'l Kim he's not in the least afraid of him, unlike certain Democrats.

Establishing dominance.
Trump is the one who insults and he's better at it. So don't even try. Amateur.

In fairness, Trump's "short and fat" tweet came after Un called Trump old.

It made me laugh. It is also a well crafted tweet.

I bet Trump can outrun Kim, and even after Rodman's mentoring, Kim would still get his ass dunk over by Trump on the court. Old white men don't need to jump. Kim will never be friends with Trump. He fears the humiliation of the inevitable golf match. Then again, Kim definitely gets more mulligans than even Obama did, so maybe he thinks he's good.

I think it is one of the best diplomatic plays against Kim. Ridicule hurts him. If one claims Trump is being dangerous by using ridicule; that person is self-identifying as an idiot. If Kim is a danger because of ridicule, then he definitely doesn't need access to WMD.
