"Lord of the Flies 'all girls' remake spawns social media backlash"

Via Twitter: A film adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 novel Lord of the Flies is in the works but with a major twist that’s drawing ire across social media: all of the boys stranded on the island without their parents will be girls.

“We want to do a very faithful but contemporised adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys,” Siegel said.

MeGehee added that they were “taking the opportunity to tell it in a way it hasn’t been told before, with girls rather than boys, [which] shifts things in a way that might help people see the story anew.”

An all girls 'Lord of the Flies' sounds like those 'Housewife" reality shows Troop watches all the time.

It makes more sense than a rebooted girl Ghostbusters.

Will Miss Piggy be beaten to death in a topless pillow fight?

"“The plot of that book wouldn’t happen with all women,” said writer and commentator Roxane Gay." Roxane Gay and her feminists colleagues think the book is about "toxic masculinity."

Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

When Golding wrote Lord of the Flies he used boy characters instead of girl characters because he basically had the same thought as the feminists do today; that girls weren't capable of this sort of thing. Since the rise of third wave (toxic) feminists, we know better.

Lady of the Flies would be a perfect parable for today's society.

Didn't they already make "Mean Girls"?

You know what Hollywood needs to do? They can do a remake of the WWII movie, "Prelude to War". And to show equality and give women a shot at a leading role; they can let a woman play Adolf Hitler. It would tell the story in a way that hasn't been told before, and its a remake, so its a safe bet for the box office. They can get Paul Feig to direct, since he isn't busy these days. I wouldn't go see it, but then I'm an angry privileged white male who wouldn't buy a movie ticket anyway, so I'm not the audience they want. They are looking for antifa types to buy tickets, so I think this would be a hit.

As I recall, vaguely, there is a tug of war for leadership of the boys on the island between a "civilized" faction that wants to keep a fire burning as a signal to some hoped for passing ship and a boy who's gung-ho to hunt pig. Eventually the pig hunter attracts more followers and becomes the leader. Anyway, I'd bet the farm that if girls were shipwrecked leadership would immediately be wrested by a clique of the meanest best looking girls among them. Which was already running things before the girls were shipwrecked.

Did I lift the "meanest" part from Leland? Hmmmmmmm..............

PC infests everything now. It's like comic book movies that put in diversity for the sheer sake instead of staying true to the storylines and characters because the thought is, well, PoC's need to be represented. In this case, females, how Cis Gender of them.

Two men writing the script. This seems problematic.

New banned word: problematic.
It means that someone's gotten out of their assigned lane on the social justice highway and needs to be given a ticket. An infraction of the code of progressive conduct has been perpetrated. The vile, foaming at the mouthbreathing, paranoid, resentful, pig-ignorant social media jury has spoken.

Just me, but I don't like to see movies where children suffer and die. My sexism is such that I take particular exception to watching little girls suffer and die........As many have noted, this movie could only work if adult women were cast in the roles. I like the concept of a contingent of Victoria Secret models whose plane crashes enroute to a photo shoot. At first the girls demonstrate their survival skills by crafting attractive outfits out of palm fronds, but, as time goes by, they become more primitive. Lena Dunham plays the part of the photographer or tour manager. The girls dislike her because she's not pretty. Later, as their stay on the island becomes more extended, their dislike turns to hatred and, then, to savage hatred. Finally, they lose their thin veneer of civilization. They murder Lena and cannibalize her body, tattoos and all. Then, framed by the moonlight and a celebratory bonfire, they anoint their faces with Lena's gore and dance naked. Their devolution to wild savages has become complete. The next day they're picked up by the rescue party whos leader thanks God that he was able to rescue the girls before they had to spend two straight nights in such primitive conditions.

Its absurd to think Girls would ever behave like the British schoolboys in "Lord of the Flies".

In the book, a group of boy reverts to savagery and overwhelms the "Civilized" boys. hunting, blood lust, war, etc.

Girls, assuming they could even survive 10 days on their own, would soon be having tea parties and following the "mean girls" every command. No doubt a couple fat girls would be insulted and been very unhappy but that's about it.
