Vicki Hearne said cynicism is being slow to believe things that dogs are slow to believe.

Like the authority of uniforms.

I have an uncle named Diogenes. It was customary in DR to name offspring after philosophers.

Diogenes - according to the video - was the first "let it all hang out" philosopher. Is that savage? I'd say he was a nihilist who happened to be lucky enough to practice nihilism in Athens. Why lucky? Because the Athenians tolerated his flaunting. An indication that Athens had already gone decadent. Later he was enslaved, a truly gruesome fate, but apparently carried on sticking it to whoever crossed his path. The tone of the video is sophomoric. Which is to say belittling. My guess is that Diogenes was much more than the video makes him out to have been.

It's amazing to me that the real Chuck Yeager outlived the guy that played him.

He had me at "wooden bowl", but then he threw it away - to hell with you Diogenes!
