"Rumors of Supreme Court vacancy spark liberal panic"

Via InstapunditRumors of Justice Anthony Kennedy's retirement have swirled for months but recently reached a fever pitch inside the Beltway. Shortly after the presidential election in November, the Supreme Court shot down speculation that Kennedy would leave the high court this year. But Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Chuck Grassley of Iowa, both Senate Judiciary Committee members, have said that they expect another vacancy this summer.

"In the Trump era — with a Senate confirmation process now subject to a simple majority vote, thanks to McConnell and Senate Republicans — it is impossible to imagine any stronger or more able steward of Justice Kennedy's legacy than Kennedy himself," Wydra wrote. "Despite all the pressure and pointed rumors of his retirement, he surely realizes this.

"In the years ahead, Kennedy's influence over the nation's future will be more compelling than ever. In short, the Supreme Court is once again the Kennedy Court."

Kennedy resigning is a 6 on the Richter scale. Ginsburg stroking out is a 10!

She won't ever retire.

I think he will have three appointments. It is just the law of averages.

If he makes three great appointments who believe in following the Constitution....he would have solidified his status as a great President. All of the so called conservatives who opposed him can go fuck themselves sideways.

Imagine if he appoints his chief rival Ted Cruz to the Court?

I can't wait for the heads to explode.

Cruz would be a great choice on several levels. And heads will explode.

Kennedy must retire soon. Must.

I just can't see Ted Cruz leaving the spotlight behind to go to the court.

I just can't see the Senate approving his nomination even with a 51 vote requirement.

There was a joke told by a Senator (I think) that if you want more Supreme Court vacancies you should just appoint Cruz and soon you would have 8 open seats. A lot of people who have worked with him seem to really hate the guy on a personal level.

Bader will hang on until she's dead. Why she didn't retire during Obama must drive the left nuts.
Justice Thomas might want to consider retiring, too. He's 69 or 70.
We can at least replace the semi-conservative and the conservative with conservatives. Not that Trump knows what that is. I expect he's taking advice.

It looks like he got good advice in Gorsuch. But, time will tell.

Watching leftist heads explode is one of the rare gems of this administration. I know it won't last forever, but I'm going to enjoy it while I can. Trump 2020, Pence 2020/2024, Paul Ryan chokes on his own cock. Thank you.

Even if Comrade Ginsburg hangs on till 2021, I hope Kennedy and Thomas will retire so Trump can put some younger Conservatives on the SCOTUS.

Those fucking never-trumpers at NRO almost gave us Hillary and a Ginsburg-Kagan dominated SCOTUS for the next 20 years. That's why I call them #fakeconservatives

If you've seen the out-of-control liberal judges responses to Trump's visa executive order, just imagine what they would be doing if they knew a 5-4 liberal SCOTUS majority was backing them up.

Rene Sauce [our Annie] must be VERY young.

Trump has already appointed a whole slew of solid strict constructionist judges at the district court level. That's right, when I read a story but don't remember the details I can say whole slew. It's in the Constitution....or Robert's Rules of Order...one of those.

The Notorious RBG is 83 and zoning out. Kennedy is 80 and Breyer is 78.

Even if they are in perfect health (doubtful), add 7 years to their ages and you know why the Lefties wanted Notorious to retire about 5 years ago.

And there's nothing they MUST do. I think Notorious is hanging on as a big "Up yours" to the Lefties who begged her to go.

He's in a spotlight? McCain and Grahamnesty, certainly; Rand and Little Marco, occasionally, but...

Were you the one who heard him on the radio last year and called him a sanctimonious prick?

If not, I will happily stand corrected, but I know it was one of our merry bad.

That sounds rare; one, maybe two is more likely. Thing is, with people living longer, but aging the same way they always have, some kind of amendment is going to be necessary eventually.

PS For those interested, here's the piece off Team Jacobson about Trump being able to appoint half the Federal bench.

Granted, the nightmare scenario, but many of the others are almost as bad if you're a Lefty.

I don't think so, but I did sour on Ted as I saw more and more of him during the campaign and probably had an unkind comment or two on his personality and electibility. As for the spotlight, as a Justice he would have more influence than he does as a Senator but that would put him behind the bench and off the stage, and he does seem to like the stage.

I'd be glad to see Justice Ted Cruz but I don't see it happening. I could be wrong.
