"Trump opens the door to delaying funding for border wall"

Via InstapunditThe White House continues to send mixed signals about whether it will draw a hard line on requiring that funding for a border wall be included in any spending bill that hits the president's desk.

President Trump signaled to a gathering of conservative media on Monday that he may be open to a delay in funding for his proposed border wall.

He said, according to tweets from conservative media at the gathering, that his administration could get the funding for the wall this week or could come back to it in September.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., seized on the remarks, saying in a statement Monday evening, "It's good for the country that President Trump is taking the wall off the table in these negotiations. Now the bipartisan and bicameral negotiators can continue working on the outstanding issues."

How much is Trump asking for to build the wall? A few billion out of a $3.5 trillion budget? I wouldn't have opened that door.

Trump is luring the democrats to campaign against the wall.

Ann Coulter is going to eviscerate Trump on this. Well, she should anyway.

There is a lot of blather about a story with few facts.

But Trump better not cave to "It's not a" Schumah.

Limbaugh just called Trump on this backing down. It's time for Baghdad Ed to arrive and 'splain this for us rubes.

I don't think this is true. The thing is Trump must stand firm on the wall. I am confident he will. When your sources are tweets from the mainstream media and Chuck Schumer you need to take it with a grain of salt. Lets wait and see.

Considering I back up everything I say and was right about Trump, the only prevaricator here is the one who calls me names.

Keep one thing in mind. He rejected Ryan's IdiotCare bill to get a better one. And Lem has a point when he says Trump is luring the democrats to campaign against the wall.

Trump is acceding to a delay in bringing this up until September, perhaps to ram through the tax cuts and OCare repeal in the meantime.

That means a lot of headlines about people dying in the desert, people sodomized by the cartels for crossing the border on their turf (what, those nice drug pushers hurting people?), rape trees, and the usual round of wetback crimes inside the US.

PS As if to prove Lem's point, this off Breitbart:

Trump tweets Democrats help heroin smugglers by opposing the border wall.

Ya gotta love it.

ndspinelli said...

The wall represents .035% of the budget. To back down on this looks like an omen to me. But, I never drank the Kool-Aid.

Baghdad Ed did jump in cue. LOL.

ndspinelli said...

And for Baghdad Ed to whine like a little girl about being called names, he called me and all chronic pain patients, "junkies." He's a big govt., control freak, ignorant, IRS guy.

The wall is really several segments of wall and fence and can be done piece meal. You don't think a President can scrape up a few billion here and there and make it happen? We are not talking the Great Wall of China here. He does not particular need a budget show down right now and can game the Democrats over time. He just needs to make reasonable progress over time and show he is not abandoning his pledge to do this (the democrats hope to alienate Trump from his base).

There will be various battles over flood plains and how the wall impacts that, eminent domain, environmental issues, etc., etc. The wall will take some time, but like any big project you take it in pieces and improve the current condition.

Just as important as the wall is a visa follow up system since about half of illegals fly into the USA and overstay their vias. That is a computer software system data base at border entries, which would be expensive but certainly doable.

ndspinelli said...

Evi, I am a firm believer in picking your battles. I am even firmer in knowing there are some issues on which you don't give ONE FUCKING INCH. The wall is much more symbolic than practical. But, the wall was the main reason he got elected. You don't give one fucking inch on this issue if your Trump. It all starts to crumble if you do.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Nick, meh.

I suppose Trump could go to the mattresses on this with a budget show down (as Bannon recommends), now, but he is climbing in the polls, he wants to do health care so he has some breathing room on the budget (Obamacare is a big chunk of entitlement $$$). We can debate how best to do it, but I get what is going on. I would support fighting openly and I would support fighting behind the scene (depending on which they think will work best). I suspect fighting behind the scene is how they are going on this.

It is not like he is giving up the wall (I agree that would be very bad). What he needs to show is he is working on the wall and making reasonable progress prior to the elections in 2018. I am pretty sure that is still the goal.

I am wait and see what goes down. But I acknowledge, he might fuck this up--and he might not. So far I have been reasonably happy with how President Trump has been dealing with things.

Like you, Troopski, I need to watch my salt intake. Just commenting on current events is enough to raise my blood pressure.

I would rather read a book - say something by Ken Kesey - I used to hang out near where his cabin was on Stanford campus, ride my bicycle up Old La Honda road past his house, used to go to Oregon several times a year and hang out in the forest, always liked his books and books about him and movies made out of his books.

The one he wrote about logging was entitled "Sometimes A Great Notion". In it, the Stamper family had a motto, carved on a piece of wood, sitting on their mantle. It read "Never Give A Inch", as they were Oregoonians.

But the sentiment remains true, even if stated ungrammatically.

Steve Bannon is standing firm and saying that this is the Hill to die on. Hot Air has a article where even an Never Trump asshole like Allahpundit backs off the prediction that Trump will not fight for the wall.

President Trump is a lot of things but he is not stupid. He is not going to stand down on this. Even if there is a governmental shut down. If there is he is going to pin on the Dems. Also he will have some leeway on what he funds just like Obama. So he can fund the National Parks to keep them open but hold back the Planned Parenthood payoffs. Trump will take to the streets and rallies in a way the Dems have never seen before. Lets see how that goes.

Trooper York said...

Did you ever read Tom Wolfe's "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" which is about Kesey and the Merry Pranksters?

I always found Kesey a very interesting dude.

Avoiding salt is almost impossible if you eat out. I eat dinner at home every night but Lunch is a problems. Sometimes I don't have time to prepare lunch so I grab something outside and man I can taste the salt.

I have to avoid it because I swell up like a stuffed Thanksgiving Turkey.

Good luck with trying to avoid it.

I'd be perfectly happy with a moat instead of a wall. Realistically I would love to see a crackdown on employers of illegals. Real fines that hurt and jail time for repeat offenders.
In this day and age, birthright citizenship needs to go, both parents ,except in a few special cases should be citizens. No welfare for any illegal and no chance of citizenship.
Work permits would be ok, but limited to one year, and then you go back and employers or sponsors have to put up a bond.
I don't get the contradictory views on illegals. Whenever you see comments on the subject the great majority of Americans are against illegals, however polls always show majorities for pathways to citizenship. Who's lying?

Funny how the big government guy for all 4 years he worked for the Feds spent his time around Dead followin', nose ring sportin', tie dyed wearin', tat markin', bike ridin', dope smokin' types.

Apparently, the junkies love their government control.

And, yes, these are the people who do YOUR taxes.

PS Marijuana is not necessary for pain. IV push works at least as well.

Wow, all the Democrats have to do is threaten a government shutdown and the Republicans fold. Pathetic. They fold when they're out of power. They fold when they have the power. It's like the Dems have an automatic veto on EVERY Republican promise.

I read "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" when I was living at my brother-in-law's house in Woodstock in late 1968. I later met Tom Wolfe and had him sign my copy of "From Bauhaus to Our House", as I was working in the architecture biz then and I only had a paperback copy of TEKAAT.

And while I really, really don't want to get in the middle of the stoner battle, I have read that for some people marijuana has an analgesic effect.

For others it is all about the high. I will get back to you should I ever determine my own personal truth on that subject. Until then, rage on!

One last note, in August of 1969 I attended a music festival in New York state. I remember what took place because I ingested nothing, although I did like kidding about what happened between me and that nutty ol' gal who used to call the Dodgers guy Rickey Branch. She was amusing. Incomprehensible, but amusing.

Mickey Kaus:

The crazy part is, Trump doesn’t need explicity funding from Congress now to start his Wall project. He already has plenty of statutory authority and surely could cobble together start-up funds within the Department of Homeland Security. Eventually he needs some Congressional approval, but not right now. The skirmish seems to be a self-inflicted loss. But not one that prevents Trump from building the wall. And, as David Drucker points out, he caved quickly enough to avoid major damage.

Mickey had his theories, but I assumed any president could easily drum up a few billion to get something started. I did not perceive this as a self inflicted loss, but I am not that concerned with the issue so I have not been paying attention like some of you have.

Don't get too spun up over stuff like this. Illegal crossings are way down so we're already winning. The wall is to ensure and protect our border should we foolishly, in the future, elect another vote dilution/leafblower slave importation conman/global world order princess.

I DO like the idea of using the money seized from El Chapo to fund wall-building. Ain't that the same guy that threatened Trump's life back during the election? Haha, look at you now, Guzman. Or should I say, Prisoner #331187849.

Ed, You are a lyin' sack o' shit. What put your retarded, pussy whipped, ass in my crosshairs was not cannabis, AND YOU KNOW IT. Everyone here knows your complete idiocy on cannabis. I just laugh @ your Reefer Madness "knowledge" on the subject. It was the opioid post where you showed you are aligned w/ Christie, McCain, and Gillibrand. You fucked up on that thread and you know it. You showed everyone that you will align yourself w/ those controlling politicians because you have issues w/ addiction and can't distinguish chronic pain patients from "junkies." You see anyone who uses any medication or alcohol as addicted. There must be some really bad addicts in your family. Get some therapy and just STFU about a subject where you are all emotion and baggage and no facts. You got so much baggage on this subject you need a platoon of skycaps.

ndspinelli said...

Amartel, I personally don't give a shit about the wall. I KNOW where there is demand there will be supply. You can't keep drugs out of a maximum security prison where there are no 4th amendment rights. So, while a wall will keep some people and drugs out, only a fool thinks it will be impenetrable. I have read illegal entries are way down as well. But, Trump made this his signature issue. It's symbolic and VERY important to many people. And, it is a Tom Petty, "I won't back down" moment w/ the fucking Dems. He has to win this one and he has to win it NOW.

Chip Ahoy said...

... should we foolishly, in the future, elect another vote dilution/leafblower ...

Our country is so ideologically divided that it's certifiably schizophrenic. It's worse. Dissociative identity disorder isn't just another river in Egypt. It's us. Building a southern wall is an outrageous thing. It really does say, "We're f'n fed up with you." So, when the country does vote in the next Democrat president, and US history shows that's inevitable, by then a chief item on their open platform will be to bulldoze the wall.

It's a sure winner. By then. Positively righteous. Pure American in heart.

The Wall battle is important but the Sanctuary city battle is more important and has to be won somehow first. Illegal immigration is already down, thanks in part to better enforcement and a better morale among Border Patrol agents. But to countenance outright judicial defiance -- defiance of the rule of law -- by the judiciary seems many times more dangerous. It must be suppressed. Sanctuary City defenders are people who put the interests of non-citizens above the interests of the citizenry. Pretty much every argument for open borders is bound to fail for the time being. But, the Mayors are loyal to the illegals.

The Dude said...

Did someone mention Mark Knoeler?

ndspinelli said...

The Wall battle is just political at this juncture and merely takes will and balls. The Judiciary has inserted itself in the Sanctuary City debacle and will take attorneys doing swift work. AG Henry Gibson does not inspire much confidence.

I for one still think the Wall is the number one priority. I just don't trust the reporting.

Also realize that they are still battling the entrenched bureaucracy. Lots of stuff is floated that President Trump is not on board with. The bureaucrats and the Swamp float out trail balloons to see what they can get away with. Once it comes to the big guys attention it is squashed.

I will give you an example. I read where the government is going to continue the court battles to enforce Obamacare regulations on religious institutions. I know there is no way that President Trump or Attorney General Sessions are on board with that. But the under secretaries and other political appointees are not in place so the super liberal bureaucrats are floating that out hoping that President Trump is not paying attention. I am not panicking about it. It will get sorted out.

Please don't believe Politco or ABC or NBC or MSNBC or NPR when they report any of this stuff. They are making shit up to divide and conquer.

Nick is right though. If Trump folds on the Wall his support will collapse. Which is why he will not do it. Watch and see.

Barney, I never have, and I never will use pain as an excuse. My problem was, and is, w/ edutcher. You are ill equipped and have too many issues to be a sheriff. I make a sincere comment on one of your fucking posts about lightning and you ask the girly, passive-aggressive question, "We're you stoned?" That was fucking horseshit! Just butt the fuck out. Like I said on the lightning post, you LOVE to make yourself the victim. WTF are you talking about w/ "public threat?"
