Retired black guy challenges white guy who is the current champion!

No not Obama.

It is Floyd Mayweather the undefeated welterweight champ who is challenging MMA champion Conor McGregor. He is pushing it because it would be a big payday and he is pretty confident that he will kick Conor's ass.

I am not much of an MMA fan and I used to be a big time Boxing Fan so I have to go with Floyd on this one. I don't see how McGregor has much of a chance. When they go out in the ring unless McGregor kicks him in the balls or something to start it off I don't see how he handles a pounding from as talented a fighter as Floyd.

Now styles make fights so who knows. I remember many years ago when Cassius Clay "fought" that douche Jap wrestler Antonio Inoki. What a farce that was and what a waste of money paying to see that fight! Is this that farce revisited? I don't know.

Maybe some of youse are MMA fans and have a different perspective. I would be interested in what you have to say. More likely is that not one of us have seen an MMA fight.

Damn we are a bunch of old codgers.

Don't be a fool and bet any money on that thought.

Oh I wouldn't bet on this. It is a joke and a novelty.

It would be like betting on Bobby Riggs vs. Billie Jean King.

The Marquess of Queensberry rules is a code of generally accepted rules in the sport of boxing.

McGregor, doesn't work that way. He'll go for the take down, and then the choke out. However, if I was Conor, I'd kick Floyd in the fucking nuts, take a point deduction, then choke him out.

Sounds like the current political situation, if you think about it.

I haven't seen what the fight format is to be, if it takes place. Boxing match or MMA match? McGregor is a beast, and would want to get Mayweather to the ground ASAP. Mayweather would want to stand up as much as possible. I think Mayweather takes the bigger chance, if it's an MMA style fight. McGregor risks a KO, but Mayweather risks serious injury. Plus, it's a lose-lose proposition for Mayweather's reputation. If he loses...goodness...think of the shame. If he wins, it's just an Apollo Creed/Rocky story, he was going to win all the time.

Two completely different sports. If it's MMA, Mayweather isn't accustomed to deflecting kicks and avoiding grappling. If it's a boxing match, McGregor stands to make a chunk of change to get his clock cleaned, as it narrows his arsenal.

So I guess you follow MMA?

I never got into it. The appeal escapes me for some reason. But then sports as a whole has lost it's grip on me and I used to be a fanatic. Now I only enjoy baseball on the radio.

Not a huge MMA fan, but Ronda Rousey, McGregor, Mirko Cro Cop, and the legend known as Fedor Emelianenko are entertaining to binge watch. A friend's son became a MMA fighter. Kid was the youngest of three boys, all wild and mischievous as any kids you've ever seen. Made sense that he channeled that energy into the octagon, and being the youngest of that crowd was good preparation.

It's mostly just hockey for me now. I sometimes wander down to Atlanta to catch the minor league games there. We're five hours away from any NHL teams, so the NHL Network has to do.

The assumption is that McGregor will trade blows with Mayweather. Why should he? He'll immediately close the distance and wrestle Mayweather to the ground. His advantage from then on.

Hell, I am old enough to remember when the Carolina Hurricanes were a professional hockey team. Yep, that was a long time ago.

As for wrestling/fighting - the best wrestlers always have older brothers - you have to learn to hold your own, heck, back in the day you had to fight just to get your share of a meal. Makes you tough, I'm tellin' ya!

I'm not much of boxing or MMA fan. I used to be a fight fan in the 80s and 90s. But after the whole Buster Douglas -Tyson fiasco I lost interest.

IRC, the whole Ali-Wrestler thing was parodied in Rocky III.
