Really amazing. I'd like to travel to Iceland someday.

Reminds me of Uncompahgre. A 14er I climbed this past summer.

They could use a "plant a tree day."

Anthony Bourdain is a straight shooting NYer. So many of these chefs never criticize food on air. Bourdain went to Iceland and HATED the food.

With that view I wouldn't care if the food was mediocre. Just give me a burger and fries (with catsup) and leave me in peace. Thank you. Why would anyone go to Iceland for the food? It's a place settled by Nordics and the native species are bears and orcas. Maybe. Large fat predators that swim in the cold ocean a lot to be named later after I look them up. Whatever. Not exactly a recipe for good eats.

Quality cocktails. That's what's important in Iceland.

I worked with a guy from Iceland. He was, to say the least, an enthusiastic supporter of his tiny island nation. I asked him about trees, he said they cut them all down. I told him to plant more, he said they won't grow because there aren't any trees. Well, there you go.

His boosterism knew no bounds. He constantly talked about the greatness of his country. The one positive outcome was that he got me to read the Icelandic Sagas, and they are good stories.

But eventually I grew tired of his tirades and asked him how many people live there. He said "About a quarter of a million."

Okay, Mr. Iceland dude, if you claim to know so much about that place, name them!

He laughed, fortunately.

In 1979, I flew to Europe from Chicago on Icelandic Airlines and stopped over in Reykjavik. The flight from Reykjavik was overbooked on the way back and they offered anyone a night or two hotel and a tour. I should have done it, but my parents had already driven down to pick me up.
