Trump lays groundwork for destroying Democratic Party for decades to come.

Trump has ‘excellent meeting’ with union bosses who backed Clinton

New York Post By Daniel Halper January 23, 2017

Labor leaders praised Donald Trump for an “excellent meeting” at the White House Monday, the same day the president officially pulled out of a trade pact reviled by those leaders, the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
“We’re going to get them working again,” Trump told reporters in front of labor leaders, saying they’d “be discussing” free trade.
Trump’s pullout from the TPP fulfilled a campaign promise and appeared to go over well at Monday’s meeting.
Trump was joined by North America’s Building Trades Unions President Sean McGarvey;, Laborers’ International Union of North America President Terry O’Sullivan;, SMART sheet metal workers’ union President Joseph Sellers; United Brotherhood of Carpenters President Doug McCarron and United Association President Mark McManus, among others.
Nearly all major unions endorsed Trump’s rival, Hillary Clinton, during the presidential election campaign.

(Why is this important you say? It is laying the groundwork for the infrastructure spending in building roads, airports and other capital projects. Trump has a plan to get these unions to offer apprenticeships and training programs to inner city kids who at risk and other workers who are American Citizens. Not illegal Mexicans who dominate the construction industry. He is going to set the unions against the illegals. A pathway to become skilled trade for people who are out of work. He is going to open up trade schools for plumbing and carpentry and other building trades instead of financing more Women and Black studies. These working men will be all behind that.
Now unions can be a problem. No doubt about it. But Trump is used to dealing with them in his business and he knows how to handle them. Building is what he knows. He is going to rebuild America and put a lot of people to work doing it. The Union guys can smell that. I know they can be greedy but Trump will hold the costs down and come in under budget. That is what he does with his own projects. He knows how to do this.
All of this is under the radar in plain sight. While the douchebag press is arguing about the size of the crowd at his inauguration he is co-opting one of the strongest parts of the Democratic Coalition. If he can split the union money off from the Democrats and get a bunch of gang bangers trained in for good jobs.....well the skies the limit. It is all happening right before your eyes. But the media will not really report it. Or even recognize that it is happening. It will be a big surprise. Just the way the rallies during the campaign signaled his true level of support. The douchebag press can not see the nose in the front of their face. So to speak.)
(Oh and by the way. The first news media organization called on in Spicer's first press briefing? The New York Post.
It's a new day baby.)

Probably on a Brat and Beer binger harkening back to the glory days when he could write his own check with union dues money.

He issued an approving statement ric even though he didn't mention President Trump by name.

Jimmy Hoffa did praise the God Emperor. Imagine that? Jimmy Hoffa!

I have very mixed emotions about unions. I know they can be fucked up. But the ILA protected my uncles when they worked on the docks. I remember the strike and how bad it was with the violence and the nasty stuff. My brother in law is in the plumbers union and they protected him from some abuses from NYC bureaucrats.

There are good things about unions. I know the rebels down South hate them and normally we are on the same page. But if President Trump can use them to train up kids who have no hope and get them socialized and get good jobs....man that's a freaking game changer.

Imagine bringing jobs to Detroit or Baltimore or other really depressed areas. Union jobs where people can learn a trade and get jobs. That's the plan. Lets see if he can pull it off.

You see Trump knows that he has to put the right person in the right spot.

I know you are tweaking Jared but he is really smart. I mean he bagged Ivanka who is no dummy.

He has the background. His Dad made his mistakes and went to the slammer. He took that and bought a newspaper and did deals and made a bundle. Trump knows where the real smarts are in his family. Jared and Ivanka. Jared knows how the real world works. He is Trumps hit man the way Bobby was for Jack.

The Son-in-law also rises.

A couple of good pieces at Gateway on this and I agree it shows Trump is delivering, which is important.

The unions themselves are dying, but, if Trump wins their loyalty, it's a big source of support the Demos won't have.

PS The Teamsters, not part of the AFL, have always been the mavericks of the labor movement. Frank Fitzsimmons supported both Nixon and Reagan.

Trooper York said...

Jared was smart enough to harpoon that moron Chris Christie before he fucked up big time for the Trump administration.

You have to realize that Trump was in Real Estate in New York where the real movers and shakers were New York Jews. People often think that Trump himself is Jewish. I know Don King and Mike Tyson used to think that. So did Sharpton.

They have a New York Jewish sensibility. Ask ric about it he knows what I am talking about.

That is why it is so ludicrous to listen to these assholes claim that Trump is Anti-Semitic.

The thing about Trump is that everything revolves around money. That is his measure of success. That is how he views everything in both foreign and domestic policy. It is all about the gelt. If you know that then you can understand him. It is really that simple.

Trooper York said...

The unions are dying ed because of their alliance with the Democratic machines who can't deliver the work. They can be the vehicle for turning a lot of our economy around. If you can get poor kids good union jobs in the trades then you a doing a great thing. Sure you have to negotiate. Those jobs in the auto plants and the air conditioner plant are union jobs. Manufacturing jobs. Jobs that can come back. It just requires some effort and some good negotiations.

Plus Mafia goons to bust heads if they get out of line.

Lepke's great-great grandson is available. Just saying.

I was not busting Jared's balls in the least. I think he is Trump's ace. And, I like that he is VERY low key.

I tried to join the carpenters union in NorCal when I moved out there in '72. Got the old run-around. Go on the job site and ask for a job - they say "Go to the union hall and join the union." I went to the union hall (in Palo Alto, if memory serves, or maybe Menlo Park) and they said "Come back when you get a job, then you can join." I think I figured that system out pretty darned quick - it was a closed shop and I was not allowed in.

My friend who did make it was making obscene amounts of money back in the day. He was rich. He was earning 10 times what I was making over at the printed wiring board shop. But then again, working in computers stood me in good stead over the long haul, and if I want to do carpentry, I can.

You see - I am my own man - not part of a collective, not a Red, but an independent Scots/Irish from up in the hills. Do not mess with that.

TrooperYork said...

Nobody is messing with that Sixty. You should be proud of that.

But your friend leveraged his membership into a great life. Why not let other kids do the same. We have to open up the shops. That's the key. If they do that they will have something.

That's all I am saying.

My friend was an exceptional carpenter. Very smart. He had problems and died young, but I have to tell you, when he was here he truly lived. He drove the Alcan highway in a '52 International 4x4 pickup. Lived and worked wherever he wanted to. Any time spent in his company was exceptional - but once again, those are stories for another place and time.

I guess my point is - he was a good hire, union or not - dude could conceptualize concrete forms better than anyone I ever worked with. Think about what it takes to build a concrete staircase - the forms have to be accurately built, their interior will be expressed in the surface of the concrete, they have to be built where the stairs aren't and they have to resist the forces of a big ol' mess of wet concrete without failing.

Yeah, he was good. Not just any mook from the city is going to be able to match that.

Apprenticeships are good things.

You can kill two birds with one stone. Stop the flood of kids into colleges, while we're at it. Make that shop more competitive and maybe stop the flow of easily offended morons just seeking to determine which group should be most protected from insults.

I'm thinking about the big picture, too.

Not to put too fine a point one, Crank-free, but how about the 10 trillion in debt that your beloved dusky Jebus added during his administration?

Or doesn't that count because democrat?

Trooper York said...

Well actually he declared for reorganization of casinos. Which almost every casino in American had to do the past twenty years. They didn't go bankrupt and close. Just like Caesars palace and Steve Wynn they weathered the storm and were sold off due to the proliferation of Casinos in every nook and cranny of America.

To deny that he has been massively successful in many business is just silly. He started more than five hundred businesses in his life. Not every one could be a winner. Unfortunately when Atlantic City lost its monopoly it all went South.

Ritmo, as always, ignores inconvenient facts. The AC casinos were tanking generally, as Troop notes. The 4 bankruptcies came from the fact AC no longer had a monopoly on casinos east of the Rockies.

And, as Sixty reminds us, Dusky Jebus has already bankrupted the country.

But, safe in his gated community, living off Daddy's trust funds, Rit thinks the truth is his to command.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

It doesn't count because the only way to offset the spending of a depression is through sufficient stimulus, as FDR had. The Republicans were just fine with Bush's stimulus, just not with Obama's. Let alone any stimulus sufficient enough to grow out of it. But you don't blame them one bit, I'd guess - when we have Republicans on record both in power and in their peanut gallery at TOP etc. saying economic warfare on the country is fair game as far as politics is concerned.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

As Dick Cheney reminded everyone, deficits only matter when the politics allows you to get away with them.

It takes one hell of a douchebag to lie about others while pretending to honor the truth. Let alone the fact that no one still has any clue what your references are about.

I can only conclude that your own dad was a worthless layabout and you blame your lack of success in life on my parents - even though they only provided good nutrition and education and sacrificed what they could to do so. They were against the idea of making beggars of their children but if you can only feel better about your poor life skills and outcomes by bashing my success, then I figure there's no point in my caring about what you say any more.

Ed, I thought Democrats were the people who blame their poor life skills and outcome on others' success. Shouldn't you be voting for them, if that's how you feel?

I was just having that conversation with an anti-trumper and I said, where in the world can you be 'bankrupt' four times and then end up to the reaching the pinnacle of human achievement as we know it right now, POTUS? So, you may think that somehow this is a detriment, but I'm a little surprised that you can't recognize the quality of tenacity in someone else, like Trump, when you yourself exhibit the same trait to some degree. Persistence, tenacity, risk taking, etc. these are what drive people to success. You see a four time failure. Fine. I see a guy who hit speed bumps on his way to the top.

Only in America and that sentiment means something because of what Trump accomplished.

You do realize that it was those shops and those unions members, not the top bosses that voted for Trump. The bosses there with Trump now know this. They see the writing on the wall. Apprenticeships are a very good thing. Gives you a skill to learn, make you competitive in the marketplace. You can have some protection from your union. I get that, don't like it, but I get it. And you can at least not have to worry about an illegal coming in to undercut you at every turn on your way to being a journeyman. Hopefully.

Stimulus is just another word for government intervention of picking winners and losers. Obama spent $10t to save $4t and you think that's an offset?

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

I see a guy who hit speed bumps on his way to the top.

I don't understand how anyone who says they're interested in economics can say that. His "business" grew slower than the normal market rate of growth. He could have sold it all off to buy indexed funds and made more. THat's not a "way to the top," whatever it is.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

those shops

I was talking about universities. Maybe a clumsy way to put it, but that's what I meant.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

If you think the market was doing a good job of picking winners and losers in 2008 then I believe we'll have to disagree. Seems everyone was a loser at that point - save those who shorted the bubble. I guess they were enough for you? We had an entire economy of pain. Intervention at that point is as mainstream a prescription as they come.

Obama spent $10t to save $4t and you think that's an offset?

He didn't spend that much (on stimulus), the Bush tax cuts built a long-term revenue loss into the cake, plus the wars. But if he'd spent more than the $700b most economists believe that growth would have continued to grow disproportionately. Only growth can get you out of a recession or depression.

Living in a bubble must be a lot less fun than we can imagine.

Unions hate small and innovative business and workers. They are the muscle for the monopolies and duopolies. They are backward-thinking dinosaurs who kill competition and innovation, which is why they have always been Democrats. They will stab Trump and non-union Americans (almost all of us) in the back as soon as it's convenient, and maybe with Trump's help if they can do it.

I like that he is getting them to turn away from Dems, but they are only doing it to protect their own power which resides with a tiny percentage of overpaid workers at the expense of the rest who have to compete with the world unassisted. Do the big things that really count: cut taxes and regulations across the board. No special deals for duopoly players.

Eric the Fruit Bat said...

I'm presently listening to a lecture series on dinosaurs. Pretty interesting stuff. Amazing what these guys have figured out.

Back when I was a kid, dinosaurs were big lizards. The thinking now is that they were more like birds, most of them mostly warm-blooded and there are other ways in which they were closer to birds and mammals than to reptiles. Hip structure, for example.

Some of them were quite smart, apparently, judging from cranial capacity and ratios and stuff like that.

I guess none of them, however, were smart enough to keep from going extinct.

Joe Biden, America's Putin said...

Exactly, Bagoh.

Be nice if we could satisfy unions and marginalize them at the same time. Not sure how that is done. The good news is that union membership is on the decline. Unions are no longer a useful or necessary component of a modern work force.

Interesting projection. How "good" did it make ed feel to poop out this assumption:

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and conclude that ed's never stated an informed opinion in his life. Certainly not one that anyone would pay money for.

He could prove that wrong, but he won't. Because he can't. Making up stuff is all he has going for him.

Tribalism rules Crankless and his party. They are the KKK, Jim Crow, segregation and racism. Of course he projects that onto others. Calling others racist is all they have.

I was born in the 1970s. Long enough to see the GOP adopt (and apologize for) these strategies.

But I guess Sandpaper Man didn't get the memo. Or he just likes to live in the past and deny away what his party has already outright admitted to.

The only tool in their tiny toolbox.

Says the man whose party couldn't nominate 17 losing candidates and had to go with a Queens-born lifelong Democrat instead.

Behold the Trump minions. People who just like to say stuff because it "feels good" and hopefully feels almost true enough for a half-wit to actually believe.

Have you been sandpapering away your brain, or something? I mean, for bullshit this stupid I usually have to wait for Lawrence "Larry" Meade to chime in.
