Madonna disses early defender Camille Paglia

"During [Madonna's] speech [at the Billboard Women in Music event] on Friday, the 58-year-old recalled wishing for a female peer at the start of career and specifically called out Camille, claiming that the famous writer said she 'set women back' by objectifying herself sexually. However, in 1990 it was Camille who hailed Madonna a 'true feminist'.

...Although Madonna claimed in her speech that Camille opposed her and her music, the writer argued that she was 'Madonna's first major defender, when she was still considered a pop tart and a sham puppet created by shadowy male producers.'

Camille went on to reference her 'ultra-controversial' 1990 New York Times op-ed, 'Finally, a Real Feminist', in which she celebrated Madonna for embracing sex, beauty and Hollywood glamour.

'I was widely attacked for my finale, which was dismissed as preposterous but which in fact came true: "Madonna is the future of feminism".'

Camille still cites Madonna as 'one of the most creative and influential women artists of the modern era', but she argued that the singer's 'artistic development has been stalled for 20 years' an she has become a 'prisoner of her own wealth and fame'.

'It is truly tragic to see Madonna descend into embarrassing displays of maudlin self-pity and irrational accusations against others,' Camille added. 'She is turning into a horrifying combination of delusional, vampiric Norma Desmond and bitter Joan Crawford on the bottle.'

In her speech, Madonna also spoke about ageism, explaining that for women, 'to age is a sin' and they will be criticized, but Camille stated that the singer's 'number one issue' on her path of self-destruction is her 'embarrassing inability to deal with aging'.

Camille noted that while Madonna's role model, Marlene Dietrich, retained her class and style until her death, the singer is making a fool of herself 'with vulgar displays while trying to remain youthful.

...Last May, Madonna wore a breast and buttock-baring Givenchy outfit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art Gala, and while she said the controversial ensemble was a 'political statement' fighting ageism and the notion that women can't be sexy at a certain age, Camille firmly disagreed.

'She has become a cringe-making pastiche of ratty blonde hair extensions and artificially swollen cheeks, obscuring the magnificent classic bone structure that made her one of the most photogenic celebrities of the 1990s,' Camille said.

It's strange. Anyone familiar with Paglia knows she held up Madonna as an icon.

Paglia finally saw through Madge's act.

If Madonna's baring her fifty eight year old butt to be sexy I don't think she has the intellect Paglia credits her with.

Madonna is a fool. I like Paglia. But this is probably something TOP would just wallow in.

BTW, how did they take Hillary losing? They both voted for her.

bagoh20 said...

I have no idea who she voted for, but Ann has been defending Trump all along, especially against the media. Just sayin.

I thought Meade was openly supporting Hillary.

I saw Meade hit back at Trumpers over there, but still don't know who he voted for, although he's been a lot quieter since the election. I was hard on Trump too, and still voted for him and have very high hopes and optimism for his Presidency. It affects me and mine a lot more than most.

If you go to the link and look at the pics, the close-ups make her look like she put on weight, due to the cheek plumping. This is the time for her to go for graceful elegance, not a Cindy Lauper time traveler.

Paglia -- She has become a cringe-making pastiche of ratty blonde hair extensions and artificially swollen cheeks... and Madonna's outfits are forever hideous.

All of that, but the worst part of Madonna is her bad brain and her support of Corrupt Hillary.

Madonna - Get off my lawn.

Looking at the pictures of Madonna at the link, I see what appears to be the face and eyes of a young girl (11-13)staring back and wonder how old she was when she first encountered unresolvable loss and trauma?

The wiki provides the following:

On December 1, 1963, at the age of 30, Madonna's mother passed away. Madonna was only 5 years old at the time of her mother's death.

Months before her mother died of breast cancer, Madonna noticed changes in her behavior and personality, although she did not understand the reason. Her mother was at a loss to explain her medical condition, and often began to cry when Madonna questioned her about it. Madonna later acknowledged that she had not grasped the concept of her mother dying.

Madonna turned to her paternal grandmother for solace. The Ciccone siblings resented housekeepers and invariably rebelled against anyone brought into their home ostensibly to take the place of their beloved mother. Madonna later told Vanity Fair that she saw herself in her youth as a "lonely girl who was searching for something. I wasn't rebellious in a certain way. I cared about being good at something. I didn't shave my underarms and I didn't wear make-up like normal girls do. But I studied and I got good grades.... I wanted to be somebody." Terrified that her father Tony could be taken from her as well, Madonna was often unable to sleep unless she was near him.

In 1966, Tony married the family's housekeeper Joan Gustafson; they had two children, Jennifer (born 1967) and Mario (born 1968). At this point, Madonna started to resent him for decades, and developed a rebellious attitude. She attended St. Frederick's and St. Andrew's Catholic Elementary Schools, and West Middle School. Madonna was known for her high grade point average, and achieved notoriety for her unconventional behavior. She would perform cartwheels and handstands in the hallways between classes, dangle by her knees from the monkey bars during recess, and pull up her skirt during class—all so that the boys could see her underwear.

She was 8 when her father remarried, and 9 and 10 when her step-sister and brother were born.

We live out our stories, especially so when pain and intense fear is experienced early on and carried alone with no one to help process or serve as an empathic witness.

Scratch a feminist and you'll find Daddy's Little Girl.

Although that's a tad weird.

I hope that Paglia's issue with Madonna today is the notion that Madonna's best offer to support a female Presidential candidate is to offer blowjobs. I can't see how that is a model for feminism.

"... Madonna's best offer to support a female Presidential candidate is to offer blowjobs. "

I just realized how tone deaf that was considering Hillary's problems in that department.

Ed I doubt it...I'd say a girl with a healthy father relationship, i.e., daddy's girl, would be much less likely to go pathofeminist.

It's well established by numerous peer reviewed studies that 1958 had the highest output of genius babies of exceptionally good character and looks....and humility.

I know next to nothing about Madonna. Same goes for Ms. Paglia.

Hell, I don't even know if she pronounces the "g" in her last name.

She's got a head start on the Baby Jane Hudson look.
