All the hipsters I know are VERY interested in identity politics, in making sure their identity is safe and off limits, that is. See, they think that their white tribe is better than the other, lesser, wrong whites who are all racistsexisthomotransphobichateful monkeys. They also think they're better than everyone else including chicks but sshhh, don't talk about fight club.
Maybe better to do away with identity politics altogether?
Yesterday while paying for the flatscreen and modem/router a middle-aged man diminutive in stature such that the top of his head was at bar table height suddenly appeared standing next to me, that is, the top of his head looked down upon from above, well above, I couldn't help from noticing that his hair was gray on the sides and brown in the center and swirled. I had to look closely to discern, and that's the discomforting part because it's rude to study the top of a man's head, that his hair swirl is actually a hair kippah.
Not knitted either. Swirled hair. Human hair. Shaped like a disc.
Or the worst toupee in the world.
He really needs to update his hair kippah to gray. It doesn't match. The contrast is jolting. It was just terrible. Laughably terrible. PInned in place as kippas are, and covering his baldness on top. It's every ways wrong. And not just regular wrong. TOTALLY wrong.
I was torn between paying attention to my transaction and his ridiculous hair distraction.
I tried to act natural. As if nothing unusual was happening.
Hey Chippewa, what are you, twenty seven? Wait till your sides go gray and your top is still brown or dirty blond or red brown or whatever. Then you'll know the meaning of "All in it together." On the plus side you didn't spit on his head. Which had to be tempting, v-e-e-r-r-r-y tempting, to quote the immortal Artie Johnson.
I hear what you are saying. But you know what? We tried that. It didn't work. The Democrats put their whole emphasis on identity politics. They trumpet the fact that "whites" are soon to be a minority. That we have "white privilege." Well if they want to play...let's play. We have to realize that we have to vote as a block to protect our interests. It is that simple.
You have to play on the same field as your opponent. It is that simple.
Yeah, that funny and true. People need to understand that the whole concept of a "Color blind society" and "I judge people by their character and not skin color" is white person thing. Its not only that, its a Conservative-Centerist white person thing.
You can say thats a good thing or a bad thing. But its reality. You can't talk to a liberal - pale version - without them jabbering about how awful white males are and crowing that the future belongs to the people of color (and them).
Maybe its different in Red state America. But that's real world Blue state America.
I don't think a color blind society is part of our immediate future. That's a long term goal. I do see that identity politics has been rejected by large numbers and that makes me happy.
I saw mention that the Dems may have overplayed their identity politics hand in an unanticipated way; that blacks and, to a lesser extent, other non-white groups, failed to come out for person of pallor Clinton in numbers because they did not relate sufficiently to her.
Hey Chickles, are you out there? Today I was reading a book about 20th century furniture and I found some work by Richard Riemerschmid - top notch stuff. Anyway, I thought I would turn to you, our resident expert on the German language to find out if dude's last name means anything. I worked with a guy whose last name was Guttenschwagger, and of course there is Arnold Schwarzenegger, and I know what those mean, but since I was thinking of ripping off some of Riemerschmid's graphic work I figured I should at least know what his name might mean in English.
Great clip Evi. Just what I suspected. The trumpster is amazing. A smart business man who figured out that being an 'actor' is the way to success. Just a natural progression from Reagan who figured out that an actor is the natural progression to being a politician.
Once you invented TV and gave women the vote that's reality.
@sixty: It could mean belt maker, oar maker or penis maker. the latter is conjecture on my part because "Reimen" has a slang meaning of penis or dick.
According to my unlinkable Duden Volume 7 (German Etymology), "Riemerschmidt" could mean three different things, depending on how one parses "Riemer". "Schmidt is cognate with our smith and means "hand worker" (usually of what precedes it).
Riemer doesn't seem to exist in German but Riemen does. it means belt or strap. it also means oar.

The left will start feeding on each other like sharks or piranhas.
Pass the popcorn.
I never met a hippie who thought he was "All in this together" with a square.

The white Lefties think they're all down with their homies.
Of course, they'd never go into a black neighborhood...

Speaking of hair. It Trumps hair real or a bad toupee?
I mean, it can't be toupee can it? I mean why would a billionaire buy a bad toupee.
And here's a thought - could a bald Trump have won? I say no.

I assume it is real. Jimmy Fallon messed it up and it seemed real.

Thanks, CL - I knew he was a smith of some sort, just trying to figure out what he was hammering.
Speaking of belts, I could use one about now...
