“These findings come at a time when more people, including women, are turning to the use of medical cannabis for pain relief,” said Ziva Cooper, PhD, associate professor of clinical neurobiology (in psychiatry) at CUMC. “Preclinical evidence has suggested that the experience of pain relief from cannabis-related products may vary between sexes, but no studies have been done to see if this is true in humans.”
“This study underscores the importance of including both men and women in clinical trials aimed at understanding the potential therapeutic and negative effects of cannabis, particularly as more people use cannabinoid products for recreational or medical purposes,” said Dr. Cooper.
@JimBobElrod chalks it up to... "men smoke dope to get relief from women." Just so we are clear, I do not subscribe to JimBob's theory. It's unscientific and anecdotal at best.

Clinical trials do strive to include every possible population representative.
I worked in clinical trials.
I like unscientific and anecdotal theories about that particular subject. I wouldn't expect anyone to take mine seriously so I'll offer one. Marijuana has a feminine nature and appeals to men for that reason. A marijuana high is not as sweet as being in love with a woman but it seems to help a lot of guys get by.
When things aren't going right with a wife or girl friend, as JimBob said, Mary Jane encourages us to tell her our dumb ass thoughts and ideas and she lets us know how brilliant we are to be thinking them. She's a master of flattery who probably shouldn't be consulted for serious advice.
One word, gynecomastia.
Or, from Trooper's perspective, more customers!
Weed makes me incredibly horny, which inevitably leads me to exercise my cisgender, male, heteronormative privilege, and I've been told my privilege is welcome. Of course, that usually comes from someone with an insatiable wine hole.
Our mechanic, desperately flying his stage 4 wife all over the country looking to save her life, has become a convert to cannabis oil. He has lobbied us to try it for Mom's dementia.
Sure it does.
It blocks blood flow to the brain, affects coordination and motor skills.
Gee, that's what I want to take.
Besides, legal drugs done IV-push are better for pain.
Cannabis is primarily a male drug. When I would go to cannabis dispensaries, almost all the budtenders were men and I would say 70-80% of the patrons were male. However, men tend to be the smokers, snorters and shooters of drugs. Women prefer pills. When I did see women in dispensaries, they were often buying edibles, drinkables, or products to assist in making edibles like cannabis butter.
Read a piece just a couple weeks ago. In every state where there is medical cannabis, the number of RX's for opiates has declined. That's a good thing.
