I see the resemblance, but when Obama strikes a chin thrust, his higher angle is definitely more il Duce.
The press gave Obama a two-term pass because they were afraid to offend a black man's pride. But my God that man's pride went before his fall in such a big way. They did him no favor.
I saw most of the speech and some of the commentary afterwards. The Dems thought it was ugly and wrong. The Republicans said it was stirring and authentic. The undecideds probably had better things to do than watch a convention speech. Does anyone under the age of fifty watch convention speeches?......I thought it was ok. It went on too long but, in an interview I saw, the speechwriter claimed that it had the usual number of words for such acceptance speeches and that it went on for so long only because of the frequent and lengthy rounds of applause. Why would the speechwriter lie about something like that?.......I was hoping for something a little more over the top with some unscripted vitriol, but, all in all, it had a sufficient amount of red meat to satisfy most appetites........I like Ivanka. She's very pretty, but her good looks aren't haughty. She has a movie star's good looks. There's something about her beauty that draws you in and makes you sympathize with her. Melania has a model's beauty. It sets her apart in a distancing and aloof way. Melania doesn't feel my pain. People can look all kinds of goofy while speaking.
As long as he didn't do any of those Heinrich Hoffmann poses, it's OK.
He was authentically Trump which people like. It went on a long time because he has to make his appeal to a lot of groups and define himself. Ergo laundry list. The audience was wilting toward the end but you gotta do what you gotta do. The important thing is that he came off as himself despite all the recent burnishing. I wasn't moved but I almost never am. I don't care about these guys and their promise lists until they actually do something worthwhile. Our government needs to just do its job, stay in its constitutional lane and get out of we the people's lane. So I get irritated by all the "we're going to protect you" stuff. Like the gov is our Dad or something. Just do your job and then we'll pat you on the back. After years of cloying overbearing progspeak being internalized by the American people, I get why you have to be all protective.

(give Trump some credit, for a 70 year old guy, he held up pretty well)
BTW, if anybody can get a group of RNs with some experience (I mean >= 20 years) together to watch Hillary through the next week, it would be interesting to see what they think. I recall a post here, riffing off Drudge, at the start of the primaries and it got some pretty diverse diagnoses (The Blonde thinks tumor).
I'm almost distraught today. I hated the speech! I wanted to be inspired and my fear just grew with each phrase. So much hubris. I think he's insane, really. No humility. None. And this isn't ANYTHING near what I want. I don't want more government. I don't need the President to fix everything for me. I want to be left alone! I want a strong military. Of course I want law enforcement to be respected.
I thought Ivanka was scary with regard to her idolization of her father. NOT ONE PERSON ON THIS EARCH IS CAPABLE OF NEVER LETTING YOU DOWN. My stomach is churning. This is perfectly awful.
I still have to vote anti-Hillary, which is Trump. But I am truly horrified by that prospect.
And what about the stupid press conference about Ted Cruz? Pence was horrified. The man has no filter and no focus beyond an obsession to appear right.
And what about the stupid press conference about Ted Cruz? Pence was horrified. The man has no filter and no focus beyond an obsession to appear right.
Power politics.
Cruz is dead politically. If Trump said, "I'd take him back in a minute", that would look weak. Strong horse, remember, they usually win.
When Cruz threw his little tantrum yesterday, he basically give the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate to the entire party. If you want to say he was wronged, fine, but it cuts both ways, so was Trump.
Cruz had his chance to be a team player, but it was more important to play the martyr, surprised he didn't bring his cross to hang on. Night before last, at the hotel, he was booed by RNC guys - not Trump people - but Rinse guys. He wanted to go see Sheldon Adelson to probably talk about funding his Senate re-election, but Adelson wouldn't see him.
As for Pence's reaction, that's why he's the running mate. I'm not exactly wowed by the way Trump handled it, but politics can be an eye for an eye business and Trump figures he can afford to do it and may figure it makes him look tougher - which he's going to need.
When you call yourself a Conservative and Ann Coulter says about you what she said, you're about as deep in the wilderness as you can get, assuming you're still above ground.
@edutcher I don't care about Ted Cruz. A strong horse shrugs him off. Trump was rattled and ranting. It was bizarre and beyond unsettling. Have you watched it?
No, but I've seen the articles. Troop may have a better handle because he lives the Gotham subculture.
Trump is Trump, just like Cruz is Cruz and Jeb! is Jeb!.
There's nothing on his schedule, and I don't doubt he could use a little rest.
One point I might toss out, though. Trump probably figured he was being a nice guy giving Cruz a prime speaking slot (many people thought he was asking for trouble) and was more than put out by the way Cruz treated him and got mad when the question came up.
To me, Pence looked amused, Trump was in control and gave his view of the thing. Some of his inflections were a little odd, but I haven't seen him that often, I usually read it from some place. As I say, maybe he's tired.
I don't know what to tell you except it's possibly a guy-girl difference in perception (no offense meant) between our views. Maybe somebody will see something else in it.
BTW Has Hillary picked her running mate YET? I thought she was going to do it today.
Darcy - I hear you. I too wasn't really excited about Trump's speech. I wasn't surprised by it, as this is the sort of stuff that Trump has been selling all along. I'm not interested in promises that remind me of of a multi-level marketing scheme. I find it insulting to our collective intelligence. But (some) people apparently want to hear this stuff. I'm Ok with his plain talk on subjects like immigration. The obsession with Ted Cruz doesn't help Trump. It makes him look small, petty - and threatened. If Ted is so horrible and washed up, why feel so threatened? It's a major character flaw that he and his blind faith supporters refuse to deal with.
And any candidate is expected to lay out his vision. One thing that has drawn people to him is the outrage over illegal aliens and imported Moslems who kill people. He had to address that.
People want to know his policies, how he'll act wrt things like the arbitrary regulation of the past 8 years, what he's going to do about Ocare, all pocketbook issues for many people.
Anybody who wants somebody who'll say I'll shut down the government and you can do what you want can go Libertarian, but the government has certain Constitutionally mandated duties. Trump addressed a lot of that last night.
"And what about the stupid press conference about Ted Cruz? Pence was horrified. The man has no filter and no focus beyond an obsession to appear right." ... "I don't care about Ted Cruz. A strong horse shrugs him off. Trump was rattled and ranting. It was bizarre and beyond unsettling. Have you watched it?"
Darcy, please. Trump's delivery isn't what you have come to expect from politicians. Trump isn't a politician, which doesn't mean the essence of his speech isn't correct, or what we've been waiting for, or needed for quite a while.
He must beat Hillary. His imperfections are a big nothing.
I have no need to watch Trump say anything. Other than a couple of excerpts I have not read what he said. I don't care what he said. All I need to know is that he is not Mrs. Clinton. End of story. The rest is just icing on a gay wedding cake.
Life is too short to waste it listening to people talk.
I am not a Never Trumper. But I understand it much better after last night. My conscience was feeling twinged.
Allen and Sixty - I do respect your opinions. I think Hillary is evil - has done and will DO evil in office if elected. I do not want to help her get elected. But I do wonder at what cost should I uphold that goal? Last night was the first time I really wondered how much damage Trump himself could do. Made me queasy.
I hope, in the end, that my fears are ridiculous. I do believe women are more emotional voters than men. If so, I'll hope that I'll snap out of it.
Trump had to hit back. Cruz took a prime time spot to diss him to his face. It really was incredible. It reminded me of Ted Kennedy when he lost to Carter. Another out of touch ideologue who Carter chased around the stage to get him to shake his hand. Remember that. Is that how you want to treat someone like Teddy? Either Teddy? That is one way to treat someone who shit on your nomination to your face. Another is to give him a couple of smacks as a parting gift. Now he will be forgotten.
Even that putz the wheelchair guy got it right when he called Cruz's speech the longest suicide note in political history.
Time to move on. I assure we will. Melania's Speech and Ivanka's grab ass and Teddy will all fade into distant memory like farts in the wind.
After the One True Ted's tantrum the morning after, Cruz was a spent force.
This was MacArthur pushing the Nips into the deep jungle in the Philippines, New Guinea, the Solomons, and the Bismarcks and saying don't chase after them and get a lot of our guys killed, let them rot, let them starve.
If you are threatened by Cruz, doesn't that make you lesser than Cruz. What I gather here, Cruz is pure shit. So - what does that say about the man who is threatened by him?
You don't have to like Trump to vote for him. That's where I am. That's where many people are. I think he's an authoritarian buffoon, and his weird speech last night confirmed it. But hey - even an authoritarian buffoon is better than Hillary. We did good!
He's gonna bring back law and order and safety - really quickly!
Lying ed you clearly do not have an original thought in that pea brain of yours.. you must consult and copy your opinions. You are a pathetic little man.
When the delegate poaching scheme collapsed and he blew the NY primary, he was toast.

No, it was not weird and even CNN says people that saw it, loved it.
We did good!
What's this "We"? You're still bitching about him and sticking pins in you Trump doll.
He's gonna bring back law and order and safety - really quickly!
All it takes it prosecute BlackLives and their enablers under RICO. You haven't figured that out yet?
Lying ed you clearly do not have an original thought in that pea brain of yours.. you must consult and copy your opinions. You are a pathetic little man.
You say Lying, now where did that come from?
And I'm not the one who can't finish a comment without getting profane. I guess it's that thin Rocky Mountain air.
The comment from Ed where he says he has to wait what for the bra salesman's take is has been bookmarked! Classic. And the bra salesman is stingy w/ his comments unless it's his own post. I make an il Duce comment here but the needy bra guy responds on his post, instead of here. He's a fucking coward.
Darcy is spot on about the bizarre presser today. The bra salesman is James Carville w/ a different accent. He's full of shit when he speaks on Trump and most everyone here knows it.
Another terror attack in Germany. Think about that. Now, what presidential candidate has said anything about limiting the very people who are doing these terror attacks? Trump. Hillary wants to bring more of them to our country. Think about your choice for POTUS.
This has to be the craziest election ever. On one hand, you got Trump who's been on TV and available to the press 24/7 since the July 2015. He's been making speeches, taking questions from hostile MSM, holding townhalls,
-talking, talking, talking, about every issue under the sun. FOR A YEAR!
Meanwhile, Hillary has only held on presser since December. She shows up occasionally on TV to take some softball questions or make a canned speech to a friendly audience.
Yet NO criticism of Hillary for "hiding" from the press. And constant endless criticism of Trump, from everyone.
Not crazy, just the fact that we can't see too much of Hillary because she might make a slip and tell us what she really did or what she's really going to do or we might see what's really wrong with her.
And it's the way the media has operated for more than 50 years.
As for Trump being a strong man. That's a problem for every politician who wants to change the status quo. To change things you fire people up and for some reason its usually men who want to change things.
Unfortunately, moderates, especially moderate women don't like that kind of talk. They didn't like Pat Buchanan talking abut "The Buchanan Brigades marching to the sound of the Guns" or Reagan calling the USSR an "evil Empire". And they don't like guys like Trump who seem so cocky and full of themselves.
They sorta want change, but nice, comfortable, non-threatening change.
Well Ed, I think that's why the debates will really be Trump's only chance to win. If he can defeat Hillary and the MSM moderators, he could win - otherwise not.
That's what happened in 1980, once people saw Carter and Reagan side by side, Ronald Reagan won.
OTOH, it could be the USA is so far gone, Hillary will win no matter what. In blue state America you could time travel Reagan back to life and run him against a yellow dog and the dog would win if had (D) after his name.

A lot of people thought that in the 30s.
The real issue is that the Demos can't win without vote fraud and winning Independents and Reagan Democrats, along with any blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals, or any one else can put a candidate beyond the margin of error, but also the margin of fraud - and people are worried. So I figure we're not that far gone.
As I've said, they're hiding her for a reason and letting her out in a forum like debates may be a risk they can't take.
It will be interesting to see where the Bernies are going to end up, too.
rcocean said...As for Cruz, no one's going to remember Cruz a week from now.
Like Nixon he's a loser.
Like Nixon, he could come back. But not this year. It's not his time. He can run on Trump's record in 2020. Cruz is way more divisive that Trump is in a time for reconciliation. We saw Trump make a few conciliatory gestures in Cleveland and we should focus on that.
Hillary's going to say this and incriminate herself on national TV?
Dream on.

Trump ready to invest $20 million to end Cruz’s and Kasich’s careers
Idiot, they're already over.
And can't you get it through your head HotAir was bought and paid for by the Libertarians, not to mention the One true Ted and Mitch McConnell, to spread the NeverTrumper you swallowed whole without question?
April: At this juncture, it matters critically who "a source familiar with Trump’s thinking told Bloomberg Politics on Friday" is. That is a pretty low bar around here, allegedly.
I see.the peeper is stalking me in the comments again. I guess he wants to control when and where I comment. Speaking of. what everyone knows... everyone knows was you are just a guy......nobody gives a shit what you think pally. Fuck off jerkoff.
a real man would engage on a thread where the comment is made. That's here, Carville. You know I won't comment on one of your posts. You constantly try and get me to comment on your loser posts. Ain't gonna happen Carville. No one else took offense to the il duce comment. Look at the tape. It is a legit observation. But, first pull Trump's dick out of your mouth so you can see. Never mind, you are Carville and have no credibility on Trump. "Stalking" accusation is delusional and sad. You can't get comments. You WANT me to stalk you that's why you make a girly comment on YOUR post about a comment here. Your sad ego needs hits. But, we all know why you keep using "stalking" as bait, don't we!
And "Control" is a recurring theme w/ you. So, let's talk about "control." You feel you have little control over your life so you project other people trying to control you. NOW, there may be some people controlling your life, ass eyes. But, it ain't me.
You are really lost pally. You go from blog to blog picking fights. That's you mo. You make no sense. I am happy you don't post on my threads. You don't bring anything to the table. No Witt. No creativity. Nothing but complaints about what other people have to say so you can set them straight. I have all the credibility I need because I don't care what anyone thinks. I say what I think. That's enough for me.
By the way.... I think you should fuck off and find someone else to fight with you pompous twit. Stop with the lectures and find another hobby. There must be some Windows for you to peep in even in Wisconsin.
Whose the stalker? The guy who went to chickenlittle's blog to lecture him and pick a fight. That's who.
I was referring to your act at Turleys blog months ago. That turned me off and I stopped going there. Then you came here and started the same shit. You are very predictable in your dick attitude.
chick can handle himself, busy body. This is between you and me. You spend every day w/ women and you turned into one. I know you don't drink. But, you can still go into a bar, drink club soda, and socialize w/ men face to face.

What? Did the daughter just say she is going to run the country alongside him?
Ivanka is giving a great speech
I don't sense much enthusiasm from that crowd.
"We will honor the American people with the truth." Great line.
The facts on the economy. Straight up. And on to highlights of the foreign disasters.
He is hitting the democrats really hard.
The Legacy of Hillary Clinton death destruction and terrorism.
Good line about Clinton being the puppet of big business and other special interests. High time the Dems were framed with that truth.
Protest disruption.
Hitting hard at the Hillary corruption.
Oh oh, Is Trump threatening to prosecute Hillary?
"I joined the political arena so that the powerful can no longer beat up on people who cannot defend themselves."
That resonates.
An attack on law enforcement is an attack on all Americans.
You'll never get Obama to back the police w/o reservation.
Promised to protect the gays.
"An attack on law enforcement is an attack on all Americans."
--D. Trump
"Dat be racisss!"
--Hillary "I ain't no ways tard" Clinton
Good line about not allowing a hateful foreign ideology to take root.

He just said God Bless you.
We are a nation of believers, dreamers, and strivers being led by a group of censors, cynics and critics.
Best line so far.
Very well delivered. He got them up and cheering, that's half the battle.
Very forceful delivery.
And, if you're old enough, you'll remember the phrase "big tent".
If anybody can deliver on that one, it will be him. If he does, the electroral map gets rewritten.
We'll see.
"I'm with you"
Did Trump get permission to use those songs?
Probably not. How the line go?
It's easier to say sorry than to get permission?
Welcome to Trump USA.
Countdown to some fossil rockstar doddering out of obscurity to condemn. They should just ignore.

YMMV
@edutcher
I don't care about Ted Cruz.
I'll take a look, though.
OK, saw the vid, at least the part wrt Cruz.
I do believe he was asked about Cruz.
You are free to like or dislike what he proposed.
@ Darcy
"And what about the stupid press conference about Ted Cruz? Pence was horrified. The man has no filter and no focus beyond an obsession to appear right."
...
"I don't care about Ted Cruz. A strong horse shrugs him off. Trump was rattled and ranting. It was bizarre and beyond unsettling. Have you watched it?"
Just watched in on YOUtube. Embarrassing.

Embarrassing.
Surprise!
Oh, I can be plenty emotional myself, but avoidance works wonders for me.
They can't hurt anybody.
Who's threatened by Cruz?

Now that's pathetic.

Try again.
I know Fluffia. I said Troop would have a better take on NY mores.
Troop may have a better handle because he lives the Gotham subculture.
If you're going to quote me, at least get it right. You've been hanging around April too long.
CO hates Trump. Deal with it. Trump hates CO - buts that's his strategy. Get everyone to hate him. Hand it to hillary.
And what is the justification for this hysteria?
And does madam have some remedy to the situation?
Given the influx of CA Lefties, perhaps the answer is to move them to another state.
Chihuahua, f'rinstance.
PS CO has been a Lefty state for a long time, sending people like Gary Hart, Patsy Schroeder, Tim Wirth, and several Udalls to DC.
Trump hates CO for hillary.
Care to translate that into English?
Or sober up?
Didn't see the speech, because I don't care.
Crazy.
Not crazy, just the fact that we can't see too much of Hillary because she might make a slip and tell us what she really did or what she's really going to do or we might see what's really wrong with her.
And it's the way the media has operated for more than 50 years.
Sad to say.
As for Cruz, no one's going to remember Cruz a week from now.
Like Nixon he's a loser. Smart but there's some inner loser that makes him self-destruct.
If he'd been elected, he probably would've been forced out for some 21st century Watergate.
The Cruz obsession abides!
ed - the right in CO hate him too.
It's delusional to think that Trump will do well in debates. He is clumsy, inarticulate, and he might even melt down.
Hillary, while boring, fake, and inauthentic, will be calm, articulate and rehearsed.

It will be interesting to see where the Bernies are going to end up, too.
old model. The dems win with the free stuff dangle now. Welfare is cool.
rcocean said...As for Cruz, no one's going to remember Cruz a week from now.
2016 - The Giant DUPE
Trump ready to invest $20 million to end Cruz’s and Kasich’s careers
The debates will reveal the Bill-Donny deal.
Hillary's going to say this and incriminate herself on national TV?
Dream on.

Idiot, they're already over.
And can't you get it through your head HotAir was bought and paid for by the Libertarians, not to mention the One true Ted and Mitch McConnell, to spread the NeverTrumper you swallowed whole without question?
Then why spend 20 million? Shouldn't your One TrU Trumpy be focusing on Hillary?
Hot Air rocks. Tree House and National Enquirer? Losers.
April: At this juncture, it matters critically who "a source familiar with Trump’s thinking told Bloomberg Politics on Friday" is. That is a pretty low bar around here, allegedly.
Plus I love the use of the word "would" in the headline.
Too bad you're all so bored with grammar and parts of speech.
I beeleeeve it. Considering that bizarre press conference today.
You believe anything that fits your delusions.

HotAir hasn't been right all year.
Treehouse broke open the connection with McConnell and Cruz.
And they document their stuff.
The loser is you and your NeverTrump friends.
I'm not never Trump your moron.
Tree House is for looozers.
After he loses, he could find a way to nuke the states that Trump lost as a form of revenge.
except New York - oh drat.
Looo oo ooooooooo zers.

Of course not, that's why you call the guy who won and anyone who stands with him losers.
That's projection, dear, and a good psychiatrist can help you with it, but you'll have to first deal with this pathological hatred of Donald Trump.
Jocasta issues?
Can you deal with your pathological slobbering love-fest over Trump? You've got a religious fixation.
and your hatred of Cruz far surpasses my mild dislike of the One Tru Trumpy.
Anyway - it will all be over soon. After Trump loses CO - he's going to nuke us.

Mild? It is to laugh.
And I mention Cruz' name in passing only to prove Last Refuge is a superior blog to HotAir by its research.
"You go from blog to blog picking fights." Who's the stalker?
Trump's 7-22-16 Cruz presser
Ed- both you and your hero have lost your minds over Ted Cruz. Ted Cruz holds a lot of power over you. It's almost funny if it weren't so serious.
Then why can't YOU stop talking about him?
Saw the vid, no problem. As Last Tradition noted, it's intent was to push attention away from Cacklepants' choice. And it did.
But he certainly looked in control, and Pence was having no problem, to me.
But, to address your psychosis, this little piece, from a former supporter, might help.
Doubt it, but we live in hope.
Whose the stalker? The guy who went to chickenlittle's blog to lecture him and pick a fight. That's who.
I was referring to your act at Turleys blog months ago. That turned me off and I stopped going there. Then you came here and started the same shit. You are very predictable in your dick attitude.
STop talking about your precious one tru ted?
Lying Ted?
Trump and his sycophant first.
chick can handle himself, busy body. This is between you and me. You spend every day w/ women and you turned into one. I know you don't drink. But, you can still go into a bar, drink club soda, and socialize w/ men face to face.
