potato

This is top of the stats for over a week at another site. There is nothing to draw attention to it. It just sits there by itself. The title is simply "potato" with no other adjective.

My explanation back then was, "It is the same thing as ham and cheese sandwich except potato instead of bread." And that's all.

You can make one in like six minutes.

I don't understand it. There are a couple hundred baked potatoes. Really good ones too. Just looking at a few makes me starved for a potato right now. Wow. Google Images [+"my site" +baked potato] Every one of those is mine. I ate it all. And they don't even have all the baked potatoes, I just had a baked potato in beef broth like soup and another one with green chile poured all over it. There are a lot of potatoes that are not even showing.

I look around and see everybody struggling with keeping their weight up. Y'all are going to have to eat a lot more things like this.

And nevermind where the American Picker dudes got my funhouse mirror.

Nice. I am going to make it tonight. Gluten free though. With goat cheese cheddar as a substitution.

Potatoes are good. I like sweet potatoes which are supposedly better glycemic wise than regular potatoes. But both are good.

I try and always have something hot for lunch. Psychologically and physiologically, eating warm/hot food is more satisfying, so you eat less. We have evolved into eating lots of cold foods, particularly @ lunch. Today I stopped @ a quiet, coffee shop owned by a guy, not a corporation. He always has great soup. Today he had sweet potato bisque. SUPERB! Sweet potatoes, rather than regular spuds, are much better for us diabetics. The well informed Evi pointed out they are significantly lower glycemic, and higher in vitamin A, potassium, and fiber.

When I returned to college in the late 90's I was required to take an ecology course. I dreaded it. Well, the class was taught by a prof in his 80's and I loved it. The prof spent most of his career as a forester, both for the govt. and private concerns. The man knew his trees. What was so heartening was how he didn't talk about global warming. He talked about conservation, maintaining wetlands and forest, etc. But, what he also spent some time on was biodiversity. The need to not be like those stupid Irishmen and be wiped out because we grow only one type potato. He showed us a video about the International Potato Center in Peru, the country where potatoes first were grown. There are ~400 types of spuds. The Hmong farmers here in Wisconsin grow interesting varieties.

At our little country fair there are always food booths. Commercial ones for tacos, chow mein, waffle cone icecream and local booths for indian fry bread tacos, barbecue beef etc. One of our favorites when my daughter was still in school here was the Garden Club baked potato booth.

Man those were good. Big hot steamy fluffy baked Idaho potatoes and your choice of toppings, butter, sour cream, fresh chives, green onions, home made chili, grated cheddar cheese...more butter!!!! and all the salt and pepper you wanted. I was happy my daughter wanted a baked potato over a greasy hamburger or sugar laden waffle cone full of whipped cream and strawberries.

The Garden Club ladies don't do a booth anymore. I sure miss those baked potatoes at the fair.

DBQ, We have a local hamburger chain called Culvers. My son gets mashed potatoes rather than fries w/ his burger or pork tenderloin sandwich. At Wendy's you can get a baked spud instead of fries.

I just made a potatoe and califlower cold salad with scallions and red pepper and carrot. Very tasty as a summer salad.

Of course my favorite summer salad is the one grandma made with potatoes and string beans in olive oil and red wine vinegar. Delicious.

I have an issue with hamburger, but Culvers butter burgers are (allegedly) delicious.

The best potato salad is with green beans, but Roma (the flat ones) and plenty of garlic and onion too.

We have a Culvers close to where I live now. I stopped a couple of months ago and got a Bacon Delux butterburger, fries to go. Got home and it looked like someone had stepped on the burger. The bacon was undercooked and rubbery. Haven't been back.

We often have baked sweet potatoes....actually those orange potatoes are yams. Sweet potatoes are something else entirely yellow, not orange and make delicious sweet potato chiffon pies......but whatever. I digress. Hubby is diabetic and the baked potatoes or sweet potato fries baked in the oven are super. Good for the glycemic index.

Of course if you put that maple syrup pecan whipped butter on them, it does sort of spoil the intention. BUT.....not the flavor :-D

Speaking of good eating, I just finished supper and now am having desert, which is green seedless grapes. They're really big and very sweet.

Allen, I would suggest you give Culver's another shot, eating in and not take out. I've never had a bacon burger there. I have had plain, cheeseburgers, and their pork tenderloin. The latter is my favorite.

So, there I was eating my grapes, when it dawned on me -- "having desert". How about dessert?

AllenS, I am sorry Culvers disappointed you.

Allen, I love grapes and walnuts in a bowl as a snack. And fuck it about desert/dessert. That has to be one of the most common errors.

Further research will surely show that baked potatoes are more dangerous than doing hard drugs while practicing gymnastics. They're quick, cheap, and taste great with minimal seasoning. There must be a catch. Life's not that easy..... Saw the array of Chip's dishes. Most of them are far beyond my culinary range, but the baked potatoes are duplicable.
