Why does this not surprise me?

For a guy who was supposed to be one of the big intellectuals of the hippie dippy era, Lennon was a real jerk.

Well, that's a very old feud and besides, nobody -- nobody -- likes Yoko Ono. She must live in her own kind of personal Hell.

But ed, I think that Lennon would have put the kibosh on that tout suite. It was Yoko unless I'm missing something.

I meant in the sense he went off with a nut case like her.

Never apologize, mister, it's a sign o' weakness.

Besides, I don't think you did.

Writing your dad a letter is a very good idea. It seems dumb, but it's not.

[squeaky ventriloquist voice: "Break it down for us, Dr. Chip."]

I did that once and it had an enduring effect beyond my imagining of saying my piece.

What I said was deeply considered when read and appreciated and apparently needed. Dad carried it around and showed people. He saved it. The letter showed up among saved favorite things when he died. Everyone in a room read it together. My sibs were amazed. Whatever they were feeling they were also feeling that, they read me reach in and isolate the strands that have importance to a dad. I gave him what I thought a dad wanted to see. He needed to have it written down, he needed it acknowledged that he did a great job as a dad and did that through difficult circumstances. He needed to hear, "Well done."

All I did was write my dad a Fathers Day letter in my own words and without being corny or floral. Straight up. He did what I could not do. He needs to know how my heart bursts with pride. And how I felt lucky now knowing so many people grown up without having any of that.

For him that personal letter was better than any pop-up card could be.

Now, having said all that, the letter was between me and my dad. When I gave Dad the letter it's gone forever from my point of view. All of them are. Julian considers them historic and personally valuable, but he did already give them away and he did know his dad would not live forever. Do you expect your letters to circulate back to you? Even if you may consider them historic?

That's weird.

Let somebody else own them through auction. Julian already let them go.

This here's whatcha call emotionally chasing your own tail.

[squeaky ventriloquist voice: "That'll do, Dr. Chip."]

My old man died in 1989. He was 10 years older than my mother. He loved his 4 kids and all kids. He preferred kids to adults, as do I.

Yoko singing a Katy Perry song. God help us.

My Dad was a man of few words. When he reckoned I was grown enough to understand he said "Rick, life's a cheat."

My Mom's words of wisdom were, "Whenever someone cries he's crying for himself."

These were not upbeat people.

Yoko screeches good, real good.

I don't see the problem here - they were her property, had value, moreover, Boy Lennon could afford to buy them. Get over it, kid - there are plenty of worse situations to endure.

You were a lucky guy.

And he was probably right about kids.

Yoko broke up the Beatles. After that breaking up her family is no big deal.

Plus you can never trust a Jap. They are sneaky.

I know that is old fashioned but it is true none the less. That is why we have to cut them loose and let them pay for their own defense. Enough already. Take our boys home and let them spend their money on building up their armed forces to defend themselves against China. We would save billions. It would be yuge I tells ya!

ndspinelli said...

ed, Thanks, I really appreciate you saying that. I thank God all the time. I was blessed w/ 2 parents that loved their kids unconditionally. They were certainly not perfect. But, they got all the big stuff right. They instilled honor, a work ethic, and trust.

ndspinelli said...

ricpic, Well, those imperfect parents turned out a good son.

Lennon was always kind of a jerk. I think he bullied Stu Sutcliffe into fighting at bars with him, and Stu wound up with a brain tumor.

Lennon was a drinking, bird dogging, buddy of Harry Nillson. Lennon was out for weeks fucking strange while Yoko sat home stewing.

Trooper York said...

It was a fucking joke Spinelli. Get of your high horse you fuckin' obsessive motherfucker. Don't you have anything better to do than to comment on everything I do. Jeeze. Talk about obsessions and control freaks! Look in the mirror douchey.

In an effort to improve my health I followed a suggestion to include more coconut oil in my food prep. Then I thought, hmm, maybe some lime juice would be good. So I put the lime in the coconut and drank it all up.

Then I wondered why I hadn't heard any new Harry Nilsson songs lately - turns out that sumbitch has been dead since '94.

Perhaps I should reconsider health advice from a guy who died at the age of 52.

ndspinelli said...

LOL! Harry was a stone cold alcoholic. Lost his many millions of $'s.
