Trump's VP is a vet and a conservative and has no problem supporting him

Senator Tom Cotton has announced that he is supporting the candidacy of Donald Trump without reservation and would accept the nomination to be Vice President. He has been my pick from the beginning.

He is a war hero like John McCain so he brings Military Credibility. He knows what it is to go in harms way and will not be so quick to send our boys to die so they can nation build to flatter the egos of Bill Kristol and Jonah Goldberg. He knows what are the legitimate interests of the United States are in the Middle East and what are schemes to protect the Oil Interests of the House of Saud.

He is an expert on the deal with Iran and led the charge to have the Congress have a role in approving or more correctly disavowing this treaty. He stood up for the rights of Congress and I think he can guide Trump in his relationships with them. Trump is the polar opposite of Obama. They are both very arrogant. Obama is an imperious arrogance. He is better than you and either love him or you are shit. Trumps is a boisterous arrogance. You either love him or you are shit. But he can fight with you to the knife but then make up. He knows from Make Up Sex. Look at Megyn Kelly. Trump can work with Congress. He can load up a bunch of these greedy bastards and take them to Mar de Largo and get them to play golf and send in a few hookers and before you know it he has a deal. His arrogance is that he wants you to love him. A much more positive arrogance if you can follow what I mean.

Tom Cotton knows what a party is all about. When the people speak you should listen. You get behind the candidate. You advise him. You help him. You try to convince him to see things the way you do. You don't say my way or the highway. You don't demand that he change his views from the ones he had that won him the nomination to the ones that failed.

He is young. Personable. Experienced but not part of the foreign policy blob.

He would be a great Vice President.

Like to see a guy with a little more time in grade and one who is a bit more used to navigating the ways of the Hill (yeah, I'm thinking Sessions, but he may want something like SecDef (great fit) or The Company), but Cotton, like Ernst (went to school with a guy named Ernst) has a lot of cred.

In other news, the One True Ted says he'll run for re-election. That 18% showing last night in NE must have come as a surprise.

Love to see any early TX polls on that. A lot of issues raised in the last 4 months ain't going away.

Cotton and Ernst are the future. I would support either of them in a New York Values Minute.

This would have the same effect on me that Palin's addition to the McCain ticket had back in 2008. (Positive.)

Excellent choice, and I must say you cracked me up.

When you listen to the talking head pundits on FOX or CNN they tell you that Trump has to pick someone who helps him with Women or Latinos or Blacks. They tell him to do the conventional thing. The thing that helped everyone else lose. Trump is taking a different approach. A national approach. He is not afraid of having two white guys.

I don't know who he will pick. Hell he might pick Chris Christie who is someone I despise more than I even despise Paul Ryan. I want to wait and see.

I just think Tom Cotton is head and shoulders the best pick and I have been saying that for a while.

I have been watching Earnest P. Worrell clips, but I have a feeling that he is not under consideration. Which is a shame, as he is funny, but is understandable, as he is also deceased.

Young, personable, but I am not sure he helps Trump.

If you've been looking at the demographics of the primaries from NY on, Trump needs no help with women. As for blacks, he seems to be doing quite well. so, yeah, pick somebody who will help him be a better President.

Picking another demographic is like the old obsession of geographically balanced tickets.

I just heard on the radio news that Trump has 5 people that he is seriously looking at for VP. He said: "I'll let you know who it is at the convention."

Trooper York said...

I have to disagree Evi. Don't think conventionally. He is helped by someone who can help him govern. Putting a cooze or a beaner on the ticket is not going to change anybody. So why not get an American Hero who will be untouchable in a debate. Lets say he is debating Elizabeth Warren who could be Hillary's VP. Or that Castro guy. How are they going to stand up to him in a foreign Policy debate. He will blow them away.

This is a reality show election. This is American Idol. They talk about diversity. They put all the quirky acts into the top ten.

Then they pick a white guy with a guitar.

Reality show rules dude.

I have no problem with Cotton and I agree doing what is unconventional has so far helped Trump (you might have a point). If he is really comfortable with Cotton, then he should go with Cotton.

I am not sure Cotton is going to be that great in helping him govern, but he wouldn't be a bad pick.

I guess I am underwhelmed, but I like Cotton. This becomes a surprise success (that you called) if Trump and Cotton have chemistry and can play off each other. That is the unknown (at least to me) x factor.

edutcher said...

All of this becomes more and more important as Hillary gets more and more deeply enmeshed.

Now Comey says it's an investigation and refuses to go along with her spin.

Trooper York said...

I don't think he is going to pick Cotton. I hope he does. I pointed out the advantages months ago. I think he is going to be unconventional so you never know. A lot might depend on his meeting with Ryan tomorrow. The contrast between Ryan and Cotton couldn't be starker than this. Trump is like any human being. He likes people that like him. Or at least don't dis him out of a sense of entitlement. So promoting another young Republican conservative over people like Ryan and Rubio might really appeal to him.

Why are we always ruled by these Mr. Smith Goes To Washington types? Because people are suckers for even features. The sculptor William Zorach once did a bust of Christ and instead of the usual simpering features he sculpted the battered head of a boxer who had gone a few rounds too many. "Yes!" I said to myself, "truth at last." Hey, if the Chipster can free associate I can too!

edutcher said...

Ryan's been making noise when everybody else has conceded the realities. He's probably holding out for some assurance Trump won't actively go after him, at the very least, and, if he's lucky, wouldn't actively support Nehlen.

Right now, his future and Cruz' are looking like Rubio's.

ricpic said...

Use your imagination, Trump, pick Jon Voigt.

ricpic said...

Can we vote tomorrow? To quote the immortal Sam Beckett, "Mortal tedium."

Trooper York said...

Gary Busey ric. Not Jon Voigt.

Neither will black voters.

So I guess that rules out Oprah.

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Nice Cotton pickin comment!

Ryan already is on Trump's side. He said today it is critical that the GOP win and that he wants to see a unified party. So he is positioning himself as a unifier. Meanwhile Mittens is saying Trump is disqualified for not releasing his taxes.

Why isn't Mittens attacking Hillary over her unreleased transcripts of Wall Street speeches? Why is Mitt so smitten with Trump's taxes?

Evi L. Bloggerlady said...

Who said Trump and Oprah would be unstoppable?

chickelit said...

Isn't Cotton most valuable in the Senate at this time? As is Cruz. Rubio needs a job. He's the better of the two Cubers. Why not Rubio?

I know it is crazy talk. Would make everyone on all sides of the aisle and all over the political spectrum have their heads explode. Wait...maybe not such a bad thing.....

Anyhoo....I would love to see Jim Webb as a VP with Donald. Crazy talk :-)

United States Senator from Virginia, Secretary of the Navy, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, Counsel for the United States House Committee on Veterans' Affairs[2] and Marine Corps officer.

In the private sector he has been an Emmy Award winning journalist, a filmmaker, and the author of ten books. In addition, he taught literature at the United States Naval Academy and was a Fellow at the Harvard Institute of Politics.

I highly recommend reading his book Born Fighting about the Scots Irish and how they made and shaped the United States and recognize that Trump is definitely of that lineage...as am I.

edutcher said...

Trump is Scots, not Scotch-Irish (the correct term).

The Scotch-Irish were Presbyterian Irish who refused to identify with the CoE. They migrated to Ireland in large numbers as a result of the government-sanctioned Plantation of Ulster, a planned process of colonization on confiscated land and to intermarry with the Catholics to dilute the rebellious nature of the Micks. To the surprise of no one but the Limeys, it didn't work

Most were the backbone of the 6 counties, some migrated to America.

Webb is, in many ways, the Demos' Ted Cruz, disliked by almost everybody. As he has turned his coat several times, it's doubt ful anybody trusts him.

The Dude said...

Webb is tainted - he is a turncoat, politically, and a chickenshit for allowing his aide to take the rap for his gun charge.

Kind of a loose cannon, you might say, and one per ticket should be the limit.

Cotton is a much better pick. Er, choice.

On another front in the same discussion, Ryan notes he and trump come from different wings of the party.

As Ryan is of the Rockefeller wing (he'd like you to believe otherwise), Trump appears to be taking up the gage for the Goldwater wing.

Trump did. Back in the day. When the presidency was just a twinkle in his... fancy TRUMP-festooned marquee.

As is Clinton, if I'm not mistaken. So that's the problem with our politics?

Might as well have named it, Born Squabbling.

Or the Hillary version: Born Squawking.

Her paternal grandfather was an English immigrant and many of her forebears were Canucks, according to Wiki, albeit with the usual Scots, Welsh, French, and some Dutch mix.

Actually, she sounds like another One True Ted.

It gets better. Vinnie Fox says electing The Donald will lead to war.

Well, maybe that line from Vera Cruz to Manzanillo wasn't a bad idea, after all.

I'm waiting on his meeting with Ryan. I want to see how this hashes out. Just going to wait. I do like Tom Cotton as a potential, but I still believe that it might end up being Ben Carson.

I like Joni Ernst. She could help with those Midwestern purple states and with women voters.

When my younger brother was really young and still a drinker, he and his also crazy best friend got nicknamed Nitro and Glycerine.

Trump and Carson would need nicknames like that because foreign leaders would be scared shitless wondering what the two of them would do or say next. And that would be a good thing.

William said...

This far into the thread and only one cotton picking joke,.....Sometimes the VP Is there for balance, and sometimes to add an exclamation mark. Sarah Palin was an exclamation mark, and George Bush, the elder, was a counterweight. If Trump wanted to hark back to Reagan, he could name Jeb Bush. That would add some much needed entropy and nostalgia to the ticket. In any event, Trump is his own exclamation mark.......I hope Hillary chooses Elizabeth Warren. This would help resolve any lingering doubts I have about Trump.

It's as impolitic as ever to discuss Trump's teutonic origins, so I'll live with the Scots-Irish story.

The Dude said...

Ben Carson - people would fall asleep waiting for what he was going to say - dude is a snooze fest.

Heb! needs to go home to his little senorita and leave politics to non-bed-wetters.

Ryan would be a good choice, for VP of Cuba!
