Happy Mother's Day to the mothers still hanging or lurking here @ Lem's. I was blessed w/ a great mother and father and will never loose my gratitude, no longer how long they are gone.

My Mom was a neutral person. Undemonstrative. I've often wondered what life was like for kids with enthusiastic parents.

That was a great little short.

ricpic, I think we are mostly hardwired. I think parents should be like a teacher/coach. The first thing I did w/ a new group of players or students was to identify the kids who were naturals. For those I would say, "Nick, just don't fuck them up!" It's the doc creed, "First, do no harm." Then you assess each kid, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and try and learn how to motivate them, w/ the goal being to teach self motivation. And after all, the only motivation worth a damn is self motivation. But, if a parent provides only security and unconditional love, well they have done their job. My old man was not demonstrative, nor was my mother. But, their love was unconditional. They showed us that even if we fucked up, failed, we were loved. They taught us how to be self sufficient, making themselves obsolete. There was nothing in our hometown for us 4 kids and we all moved on and out of state. It was tough for our parents. They wanted to be around their kids, their grandkids. But, NEVER did they whine. They took pride that they raised 4 kids who knew how to take care of themselves. Now that we have a grandchild I see how difficult it must have been to have all their 10 grandchildren out of state, 4 in another time zone. They let us fly.

Wow! Mom's not getting any love here. When you're hooked on anger, love can be the antidote.
