Kasich holding out for Veep?

Excerpt:

"Kasich’s presence in the race almost certainly damaged Rubio on Tuesday night. As of late Tuesday, Kasich took 9.4% of the vote in Virginia — a state where Rubio likely lost by five points or less. Kasich also took 18% of the vote in Massachusetts; the same as Rubio.

The Florida senator’s backers are livid that the Kasich’s showing in Virginia may have kept their candidate from winning and will continue to hurt them in upcoming primaries; Kasich has indicated he will not drop out until after Ohio, and may be aiming to stay in as long as it takes to be a Trump alternative."

Naming Kasich gets The Donald very little, including OH.

He would want to do a Reagan and pick a fusion guy who knows DC.

That ain't Kasich.

deborah said...

April, what fusion guys are you thinking of?

Yeah, another old vanilla dude is not wanted. I don't think he's the sharpest crayon in the box, either.

Since the GOPe won't rally round Cruz and Rubio is belly up (Kasich has nothing to do with the death of Rubio one way or the other) it's ALL TRUMP BABY!

A Trump Carson ticket would annihilate Rodham.

Exactly right Rabel. Exactly right.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

I don't trust the voting. You don't think Hillary is gonna steal this? Even though she is a criminal and the worst candidate to ever run.... ever?

Trooper York said...

Kristol is all over the place saying how he will vote for Hillary over Trump. There is an article in NRO online about how they can go to the convention to take it away from Trump even if he wins an overwhelming majority of primaries but falls short of the number of delegates.

I guess they want to lose.

Trooper York said...

Trump had it right when he was talking about Ryan.

He said he hoped that they could be along but if not then he would pay a price.

They should pay attention to that.

Trooper York said...

Get along not be along.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

btw- I don't agree with Kristol. If Trump wins - he wins.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

that said, I still think Trump is a stalking horse for Hillary.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

I'm afraid that it may go to a brokered convention and then all Hell will break lose. If this does happen and Trump is squeezed out by underhanded gyrations by the GOPe then Hillary will certainly win. This would be an absolute disaster for the country.

Trump voters will not vote for Rubio. Period. They might, maybe, vote for Cruz. However, the majority of them will just not vote at all, because they will decide that there is no point and the system is rigged.

Trooper York said...

Exactly right DBQ. I could grudgingly vote for Cruz. But never for Rubio. Or for Ryan or Romney if they were foisted on us.

Trooper York said...

Did you hear Trump talk about Hillary April? You have to give up this crazy conspiracy theory. Trump's ego is way to big to go through all of this just to hand it to Hillary. That is just nonsense.

Rabel said...

I think that Trump's ability as a master dealmaker is somewhat overrated. But the "Loyalty Pledge" brouhaha has put the party leadership in a tight little box. How can they fail to reciprocate without exposing themselves as complete hypocrites? Was the whole thing a manipulation by Trump? If so, then that was quite a deal. Artful, even.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Troop - When I see Trump UP in the polls against her and he starts to act like a grown-up and does some homework - I'll think about it. Until then - the conspiracy theory stays.

ricpic:

Not necessarily:

"So Trump came close to covering the spread on states won—losing Texas, Oklahoma, and Minnesota and being very close in Vermont and Virginia. But he came in very short on the delegate count.

We won't know the exact numbers until Wednesday, but it looks as though Trump will, by some estimates, finish with somewhere in the neighborhood of 245 delegates. A week ago, that would have been a worst-case scenario for his Super Tuesday. It gets worse: Cruz won resounding victories in Texas and Oklahoma. He trails Trump in the delegate haul for the night by only about 60 delegates. And when you put together the not-Trump share, Rubio and Cruz (and Kasich) will top out around 320 delegates to Trump's 245 (or so). He's still falling way short of half the delegates.

There's more evidence of Trump weakness if you look closely: Why did he lose Oklahoma? Because it's the only state where the vote was restricted to actual Republicans. Which further bolsters the case that Trump is not leading a revolt from within the party, but staging a hostile takeover of it."

"A Trump Carson ticket would annihilate Rodham."

Maybe, but I think most voters would feel better with a more knowledgable, politics-wise, veep, say, Cruz. He would shore up the valuable Latino vote (I know, Mexicans don't like Cubans), comfort/solidify the Evangelicals, and mollify the hawks.

deborah said...

April at 11:58, find his press conference from 9 o'clock last night. He switched into presidential mode, and did it very well. Handled the press questions with tack and aplomb. Threw in a couple small jabs at opponents so as to not give away the game too much. lol masterful.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

@ Deborah - I'm glad to hear it. Really. It's about time.

ricpic said...

Without the blacks Rodham believes she owns she doesn't stand a chance. Carson will peal away at least 25% of the blacks who would ordinarily stay on the Dem plantation. That's why Trump/Carson would devastate her.

Frankly I'd much prefer Pat Buchanan as Trump's Veep. That way the America first agenda would stay in strong hands even if Trump were assassinated. But Veeps are almost always picked to strengthen electability.

When you quote The Weekly Standard you've gotta consider the source.

Trooper York said...

You guys will never be satisfied no matter what Trump does. Just as the donor class and the pundits and the neocons and all the rest will never accept Trump. You see they told everyone we had to accept McCain and Romney and whatever other cuckservative that they foisted on us. But now when the shoe is on the other foot they want to take their ball and go home.

It don't work that way. They are writing off at the least a plurality of the party by ignoring all of the people who voted for Trump in the primaries. How is that a smart thing to do? Trump is winning fair and square. If Rubio or Cruz can't win a freaking primary what makes you think they can beat the Democrats. They will never get a single Democratic vote. They don't speak to the white working class Reagan Democrats who are up for grabs because they hate the Hilldabeast. Trump has a big downside that is true. But he also has a big upside that neither Cruz or Rubio can touch.

Trooper York said...

Then there is the KKK bullshit that came up in the press conference last night. Trump blew it off and said how many times do I have to disavow this guy. The press and the racialists will never let it go. This is another manufactured bullshit controversy. I bet you anything that Megyn Kelly will bring it up in the FOX debate. I hope tells her to shut up and stop the nonsense. That it is a gotcha game and he is not going to play. He needs to take it hard to FOX. He needs to show that he is not going to accept the politically correct narrative that they are forcing this race into the way they always do. In plain and simple terms.

What he should do is ask if Hillary is against rape and sexual harassment int he workplace? If she is will she disavow her husband who has been accused of rape and had sex with his subordinates while in office.

If I were Trump I would hire women to carry Mattresses at all of Hillary Clinton's campaign events.

ricpic said...

Oops, I just realized Buchanan is like 75 at least. Okay, Stacy Dash for Veep. That way the electorate could walk around with a hard-on...permanently!

Dust Bunny Queen said...

The fact that Trump does much better in open primaries should be heartening to the GOP, IF they were serious about wanting to win the Presidency instead of prissily demanding a litmus test to be sure that only true blooded conservatives get to vote.

The cross over from Democrats and the votes of Independents who vote in those open primaries are exactly what the GOPe has been wailing about trying to bring into the "big tent party". Trump does it and they get all butt hurt about it and want to cut off their noses to spite their faces.

The party of stupid never fails to deliver. And this is WHY Trump is popular.

Trooper York said...

You see it here. The establishment types scorn Trump and tell us how he will be a disaster. That he is a con artist and a fool. As though somebody like Rubio is a sterling character that we should all support. Or Ted Cruz who can't win in the South which should have been his baby. Cruz needed to take all of the South in the Primary. That is his base. He couldn't deliver. How the hell is he going to deliver in the general. How is he going to win in the Rust belt?

The establishment is just interested in their power. Not just the Bush establishment. The conservative establishment as well. Newt is showing the way. Conservatives can certainly support Trump. Just as Senator Sessions did. But you can't do that if you don't get consulting money or a gig in the new administration. That is what the hysteria is really all about.

Self interest pure and simple.

Troop has it.

IA should have been Cruz' (I'm talking killer win), as should OK, but he only was about 4 ahead of Trump and 43 in TX (home state, after all) only gets him a split with Trump, not winner take all. He never seems able to really close the sale, but now Grahamnesty (who fantasized about murdering him a week ago) is talking about a Whig-One True Ted fusion to stop Trump. Love to see the deal with the devil that one produces.

And Rubio is, of course, toast. The only state he's won is the only one Mondale took.

Trump will kill the Northeast, as Troop notes, so, if anybody destroys the Republican Party, it's going to be the Whigs.

Be interesting to watch the fallout. This year's convention may be the best since '68 when Bill Buckley offered to rearrange Gore Vidal's perspective.

Trooper York said...

You fight with the army you have. Trump was the only one willing to be defiant of the media's political correctness. Cruz wouldn't do it. Rubio wouldn't do it. In fact buying into the medias KKK bullshit the way that they do just shows you they are full of it.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Cruz has been amazing with the media.

You don't remember the CNBC debate where it was CRUZ, not Trump, who handed the leftwingers their asses.

Just yesterday Cruz said to Clintonopolis on camera "your former boss Hillary."

Trooper York said...

Trump is far from perfect. He has a lot of stuff in his past that might trouble you. So do all the candidates. Mother Teresa is not running.

Trump showed you what kind of President he would be at the press conference. When was the last time Hillary had a press conference like that? Trump answered the questions simply and in normal english so the average American could understand what he was talking about. He dismissed the media bullshit out of hand the way you should.

Somebody compared him to Truman. Somebody with bankruptcy in his past who the pundits and the intelligentsia and the establishment scorned. Some one who had to deal with the real world. Who dealt with the Mob in the course of doing business. Who had questionable business dealings. But someone who was an American. Who put America's interest first. Who was not afraid to use our strength to protect us. I think that is a very decent comparison. I think Trump is very close to what Truman would be if he were in politics today.

One other thing. Truman was the only one with the balls to use the bomb. Don't think the ragheads and the russki's don't think about that when they think about Trump.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Cruz rips CNBC hacks and it was beautiful.

Trooper York said...

Cruz can't win. I know you say that about Trump but he has been winning. He has been beating Cruz. If Cruz can't sweep South Carolina and the South during Super Tuesday then where does his win come from? New York? California? The Rust Belt? The Northeast? He has to give it up. It's over for him.

So you are buying into the Media bullshit April. Do you think Trump is a racist? That Donald Jr would have been on this guys show if he knew who he was?

I remember when Rosalynn Carter took a photo with John Wayne Gacy. Does that make Jimmy Carter a homosexual serial killer. Should we ask Jimmy Carter if he disavows homosexual serial killers fifty times a day?

Heres the thing. I have seen Trump interact with black people on the Celebrity Apprentice for twelve years. As has much of non elitist America. He dealt with people like Mike Tyson and Daryl Strawberry and Lil John and Latoya and Kenya Moore and Amarosa. He treated them like everyone else. He didn't give them affirmative action. He didn't act like they were too stupid to understand the job. He fired them just like anybody else. He never displayed a raccist bone in his body. To claim he supports the KKK and that he is racist is the same old Democratic media bullshit. If everything is racist nothing is racist. Fuck that noise.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Doesn't matter what I think, Troop.

What matters is the election in November and how many gifts Trump gives Hillary.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

If you want to peel off some of the black vote from the Democrat party, (even a small percentage) I think it's political suicide to play footsie with white supremacists.

Optics, baby.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

I don't claim Trump supports the KKK. When did I say that? Rule number one in politics - don't give your enemy any ammunition to use against you later on.

Trooper York said...

I think that is Trumps secret weapon. Millions upon millions of Americans have seen Donald Trump on a reality show. He has come into their homes. Just like Reagan did with "Death Valley Days." So when the pointy headed pundits and media whores screech that Trump is a racist they just laugh because they now that it is not true. They are not afraid of Trump. They know him. Or at least a lot better than they know Cruz or Rubio. So the media and his opponents can try to define him all they want. But it just won't stick.

It is a class thing. Not a race thing. Watch and see. Trump is going to load up with a ton of black people who have worked with and for him. They will quite effective. Oh he won't win the black vote. But he will get a hell of a lot more than the 3% that Cruz or Rubio will get. And the normal black voter won't be whipped into a frenzy because they think that Trump is secretly in the Klan. It is just media bullshit. I am surprised that someone as smart as you buys into it.

Trooper York said...

You implied that Donald Jr is losing the election by doing an interview. Or do I have that wrong.

The optics of Trump being endorsed by people like Mike Tyson and Latoya and Lil John and others who have been on his show will be effective. Listen I don't say that he is getting over 50% of the black vote. But he can get 15% or 20%. With the working class democratic whites he will get it will be enough to tip some states into his electoral college pile. If he picks the right VP he can shore up his conservative side. What if he picks someone like Condi Rice? Or Tim Scott? That would be a smart pick. Bringing in someone who opposed him. A black man who won election on his own merits. There are a host of things he can do.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

A great way to lose to Hillary is to give her garbage like this so she can make ads that scare black voters back into her safe and loving arms.

There are only a few thousand white supremacists left, why cater to them? It's unnecessary.

Trooper York said...

I know the smart alecks are going to laugh at the idea of Mike Tyson effecting the election. But down on the ground he has street cred. The rappers love Trump. The rappers want to be Trump. Trump just has to move the needle a little bit.

He can marshal a popular response that the elitists and the pointed headed pundits will sneer at. Just as they have sneered at his candidacy. But hey. They have been right so far. Right?

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

You implied that Donald Jr is losing the election [for his dad] by doing an interview. Or do I have that wrong.

Yeah. you have that right. But I never stated that Trump is a racist.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

If Trump can take an extra 5-6% of the black vote away from democrats, he will win. Why blow it with fiddle stix white supremey group hugs?

Trooper York said...

Once again he is not catering to them. You want to virtue signal. You want to wear a hair shirt. Trump don't do that. It is just stupid. I don't think blacks are going to vote on the basis of what some idiots on CNN or MSNBC or FOX claim proves that Trump is some sort of racist.

One video of him knocking back Colt 45's with Mike Tyson and Hershel Walker and P Diddy and Lil John and that is out the window.

Trooper York said...

No you didn't say that. You implied that. The same way the Media is implying that if he doesn't denounce the KKK 24/7 it is the worst thing since the Scottsboro boys. Screw that.

It is the same political correct virtue signaling that has fucked up this country.

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

Up on insty:

Jonah G nails it, and hard.

"Again, the best defense of Trump is that he hates these PC gotcha games by the press. I think that’s plausible and probably explains some of it.

But, denouncing the Klan should be easy. You shouldn’t have to think about it. And you certainly shouldn’t let you’re fear of being called “politically correct” get in the way. That’s beyond asinine. If you want to turn the tables on the interviewer and note that the Klan used to be the militant wing of the Democratic party, go for it. The one thing you shouldn’t do is sound like you’re reluctant to condemn the Klan(!) or that you’re dog-whistling that you don’t really mean it when you do.

Yet when you watch the Tapper interview, it becomes clear what is really going on: He think condemning the Klan will hurt him with conservatives or southerners or both. He needed aides to tell him, “Mr. Trump, sir, it’s okay to disassociate yourself with the KKK.” And so he took to Twitter to clean up the mess he created.

In other words, the issue isn’t that conservative opponents of Trump think he’s a Klan supporting racist, it’s that Trump thinks many of HIS CONSERVATIVE SUPPORTERS ARE. And that’s just one reason I don’t want this guy speaking for me."

Dear corrupt left, go F yourselves said...

I still think Trump is a stalking horse for Hillary.

I don't. At this point, I believe his ego is too involved for him to give himself and what he believes he stands for, over to her. This process is tapping into something deep inside Trump, something that's been covered with years and layers of self-protection and bravado. And that's where I see some of the energy coming from that is being generated, in addition to the energy of anger he is tapping. He started out believing he could make this happen on his own and is finding out he needs others to stand beside him, and once that connection's been realized, betrayal is no longer an option.

In the same way I don't regard Carson as being a "doof", I don't see the label of "not the sharpest crayon in the box" befitting Kasich. Both men function successfully at high levels of competency and leadership, both contribute to a process that offers choice to voters, and both have conducted themselves with a dignity worth noting, if not honoring. I don't see either of them as "trawling or holding out". They both appear to me to be focused on bringing themselves to the people as public servants, it that's also not too politically incorrect to say.

Inability to respond immediately to this typical media play in the moment is a problem. These ambushes will come thick and fast once the MSM has him in their sites in the general election. He easily could have gone on offense and turned it back on them, set a precedent for later attacks. The KKK and David Duke are Democrat Party creations. Instead he was defensive and obscure in the moment, only clarified later that he was against white supremacy and David Duke. And, no, I don't think Trump's a big white supremacist. I think the waffling arose because he was concerned that some of his voters were white supremacist so he didn't want to step on any racist toes. Booooo.

The problem is the man is terrible for the job:

1) He can't be trusted any more than Hillary.
2) He has a long history of making promises and then making very little effort to fulfill them once he gets what he wants from you.
3) He overwhelmingly supports leftist policy
4) He doesn't know or respect or care about Constitutional principles.
5) He doesn't seem to know much about most of the subject areas important to the job.

He does know what a large number of people want to hear him promise, and he has no problem telling them that regardless of it's likelihood of coming to pass. He is negotiating with you, but you are not negotiating back - you are rolling over. He won't respect you in the morning.

I won't be surprised, but I think his supporter are going to be hugely disappointed in a President Trump, if not sooner, and they will fight to the point of embarrassment to avoid admitting it.

There'll be swarms of illegal ISIS immigrant Obamacare frauds pooping in Trump Fan's pool, illegally voting for Dems, and taking American jobs, and Trump Fan will be all "this is part of Trump's greater New York vales PLAN, you establishment one true conservative pussies."

Nobody knows what will happen. We can only make our best guess.

We do know that Cruz could never get elected.

And Rubio would just want to have a Foam party and dance the night away.

Everyone else just quit.

You have to run and you have to win. Trump is doing that. He is energizing the base. He is getting people out to vote for him. He is winning. Isn't that better than losing.

Or do you want Mittens back. Because he is making noises that he wants back in. Good luck with that.

Amartel said...

He's energizing something. Open primary states: Trump wins. Closed primary states: Trump is 1 for 3. Who's crossing over the great divide to vote Trump? True Trump Fans? Or Dems who will revert to form and vote Dem in the general?

"We do [continue to assume because we love Trump] that Cruz could never get elected."

Unsupported assumption. Cruz does better against Clinton that Trump does. Trump should quit. (No, he shouldn't and neither should Cruz.)

According to whom?

Right now all the guns are out for Trump.

Wait till they aim at the One True Ted. Pompously evangelical, mean-spirited, showboating.

PS Cruz should have killed IA and OK, but he didn't. How much of the evangelical vote did Carson take from Trump (we assume evangelicals voting for Carson are not choosing Cruz)?

And, remember, it's getting sad when the Cruzzers have to rely on the WaPo for their good news.

Because we all know who they want to win.

edutcher said...

PPS How many Whigs split the vote in those closed states Cruz won? Lessee now, Kasich, Christie, Rubio, Huckleberry, Jeb.

The Whigs, according to all the Cruzzers, hate the One True Ted worse than The Donald, so why would they vote for him?

Think about it.

Trooper York said...

Heres the thing. Cruz is a true conservative. Running in Conservative states. With heaps of Evangelicals and others who should be his rabid supporters. He has won three states. One of which is his home state and the state next to it?

He is a true Republican running in Republican primaries. He lost in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. States he should have swept. What are the states he will sweep? Massachusetts? New York? California? Where exactly is he going to show us that he is the candidate everyone will get behind? If he is what you say he is why isn't he kicking ass and taking names?

Even the Senator who is one of the two (other than Mike Lee) who is most in line with Cruz's politics endorsed Trump. It seems the people who know him best like him least. Don't you think that means something?

Or is it the Trump people who are living in a fantasy land? I don't think so.

Have to disagree with Troop on Cruz being a true Conservative.

Would a true Conservative vote for TPP, or filibuster Omnibus spending, then turn around and vote for it?

Would a true conservative try to expand Gang of 8?

Don't think so.

PS If I misread your meaning, my bad.

A guy who runs around calling his colleagues squishes and liars because they don't agree with him isn't an embarrassment?

Cruz pushed the gang of 8? I don't think so...

"Introducing Cruz at a rally in the Mobile area, U.S. Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama offered an extended defense of the Texas senator's push to undermine support for the so-called "Gang of Eight" immigration reform bill that Rubio helped author in 2013.

"I believe that without the vigorous opposition of Ted Cruz, this bill likely would have passed," Sessions said. "Ted Cruz stood with me, Steve King and Mike Lee and others that opposed this bill. Don't let anybody tell you any different."

Trump hurdles immature insults and over-the-top put-downs at people all the time and certainly more than any other candidate.

That said, I kinda liked it when he dumped on Airrianna huffiness.

Cruz was the main reason the gang of eight failed. It was on its way to law until he sunk it.

Sorry someone who fights hard and fights dirty bothers you so much April. When you in a fight you fight with everything you have. Not by the Marquis of Queensbury rules as mandated by the main stream media and the elite intelligentsia.

Why not go with Mittens. He is ready to jump back in.

He can lose like a gentlemen. He really did a great job against Obama. I guess that is what you want. Good luck with that.

It won't go to a brokered convention because there is zero reason for Cruz to help destroy Trump.

Do you honestly think McConnell and all the other RINO's who hate Cruz's guts are going to fall in line and support Cruz? Of course not. They're willing to USE Cruz to stop Trump but not to give to Cruz.

Cruz knows this. He would make a deal with Trump before he would be a pawn in a brokered convention.

Of course when Sessions had a chance to stand with Ted Cruz in his home state he preferred that embarrassing rube low rent reality star. Why is that do you think?

Maybe Trump bribed him or something. That must be it.

All the "poison pill" stuff came later. He still likes H1-Bs.

But, OK, why did Sessions endorse Trump if Cruz is his bud?

Shorter version:

When the Commando School in Scotland in WWII introduced their charges raised on the Marquess of Queensbury rules to real fighting, they said, "When you're fighting for your life, there's no such thing as fighting fair".

Polls. I guess we should just ignore them and the fact that Trump, while popular with some, is unpopular with most. 58% negatives

plus this

Why would we want to win with Cruz when we can lose with Trump.

bagoh20 said...

" He still likes H1-Bs."

Cruz's plan is to stop them until their use and effect and can be assessed, to investigate if companies have used them illegally, and if so prosecute them. After 180 day of review he would consider returning them under strict limits designed to protect American workers.

Nobody knows what Trump will do... about anything.

bagoh20 said...

I bet Trump has hired more H-1B visas than anyone else in the race. We already know he's hired more immigrants and illegals, and will continue to.

It's like listening to Jews shilling for the Ayatollah.

And we know how accurate the polls have been this year.

But, not to fear, Hillary is loved, right? That's why Bernie's done so well.

Right.

Even he's admitted he's been all over the map. But, of course, it's not political.

I bet Trump has hired more H-1B visas than anyone else in the race. We already know he's hired more immigrants and illegals, and will continue to.

Since he's the only one in business, he's the only one hiring anybody. But this "I bet" thing says you're just looking for excuses to hate the guy. Funny how we suddenly have all these litmus tests for who's a Conservative and the only ones who can give it are acolytes of the One True Ted.

It used to be we wanted somebody who could win, not a candidate for canonization.

Nobody knows what Trump will do... about anything

From my view of the record, the same can be said for the One True Ted.

General election reality. Democrats are far more loyal than the GOP. Hillary is a problem for the left, not nearly as popular as Obama, but never doubt -- the left will file in line to vote for their criminal.
