No, I didn't watch. It's like Presidential debates, I don't watch them either. Bad acting. Bad actors.

Didn't watch. I'd only be interested in the gowns, and I can find a rundown of those online.

The only movie names or actors I recognize are de Caprio, Revenant, and Bridge of Spies.

Didn't watch. have not seen a single movie this year. No reason to watch. I guess Chris rock Reminded everyone that we are all racisss.

Chris Rock. Didn't he used to be funny?
Now he's just another boring social justice hypocrite.

Didn't watch. From the pre-Oscar reviews I followed, only DiCaprio winning was a disappointment. I would agree with that, as the only movie I've seen him, in which I didn't see him rather than the character, is "Catch Me If You Can". I also didn't see any of the movies mentioned in the post. I did see "The Martian", and I read "The Big Short" and have it ordered on Blu-ray. I don't think "The Martian" was Oscar worthy, but it was enjoyable (the story was spot on about how NASA management responds to crisis).

Years ago, I learned the Oscars is more often than not a poor judge of what makes a movie enjoyable to me. As for diversity, let me know when, instead of categories for documentaries, animation, foreign, and short-films; the Academy recognizes the classical differences between a Drama and a Comedy. For that matter, learn what actually makes a story a Drama.

Leland funny you should mention 'Catch Me If You Can.' I've always thought it was the only movie where Tom Hanks is not Tom Hanks. I haven't seen many DiCaprio movies, really don't care for him, but he was great in this very good movie.

Leo sticking it to everyone.

Revenant and Bridge of Spies are on my "to watch" list.

The Oscars are on my "do not watch" list.

There is no reason why I would go and see a Will Smith movie now.

Maybe if it has a 100% fresh pick on Rotten Tomatoes. And that ain't gonna happen.

Did we see the same Rock monologue? He made the limo liberals squirm like the worms they are w/ his monologue and subsequent bits.

I was very pleased to see the guy in Bridge of Spies win. He played a quiet, understated, role and gave a good acceptance speech.

nd-rich successful guy harping about other rich successful guys not getting enough awards?

It was lame when Patricia Arquette did it and it's still lame.

Rylance is a good journeyman actor but I'm sorry they didn't give Supporting Actor to Stallone. What's so terrible about rewarding the sentimental favorite?

Amartel said...

Apparently Stacey Dash did a walk on in the middle of Rock's monologue to crickets. There's your bigotry and resistance to diversity.

Amartel said...

Stallone forgot to thank his black costar in his acceptance speech at the Gomden Globes. Racist

Lem said they didn't mention. Abe Vigoda when they listed everyone who croaked. Screw those commits.

I was finishing up my Fuller House Marathon. Plus When Calls the Heart is on Sunday night.

Did not watch. So Hollywood, I know they are all wrapped up in the not enough black people in the nominees, but how come there is a best actor- and then a best actress? What is there about a male leading role that is so very different from a female leading role that deserves its own award? Is not acting- acting?

Note that as a libertarian I think that a private group can do whatever the heck they want- if the oscars want to have a “Best Ethnic Performer” they are certainly welcome to do that. But why not best male director and best female director? OR Set design or lighting etc etc.

deborah said...

Excellent points, Jim. Now that transgenders will be nominated, will it be fair to a natural born female to be judged in the same category as a transgendered male into female?

Amartel said...

There should be one award for lead acting and one for supporting. Or maybe they could do a win/place/show in each category so there are no hurt feelings. Or less hurt feelings. Or they should just cancel this complete waste of time and concede the obvious that the movie that makes the most money wins.

Bruce Jenner was awarded "Woman of the Year"

I know.

Anybody even pay money to see any of those movies?

Didn't watch it. Didn't care. First time I actually didn't watch it and my life is still chugging on. I did like the memes that came out of it though. Those are more entertaining.

I didn't watch, but it's always fun to watch some beautiful person make a fool of themselves. It's more energy efficient to read about it afterwards. Those who care about the earth dont add to the carbon load by watching it........,,There's no way I'm going to see a movie about a Danieh transgender. That said, Alicia Vikander is destined for greatness. I saw her in Deus Ex Machina, and she was terrific. Deus Ex Machina was the most intelligent and thought provoking movie I saw this year. It even had some nudity. I can't recommend it more highly. I wonder why it got so ignored by the awards and the critics.

Oh you wanted my impressions?

You dirty rat!

Here's looking at you kid!

That will be the day!

I expect you to die Mr. Bond.

Nobody puts Baby in a Corner.

Is that enough?

ricpic, Creed is on my list of flicks to see. I HATE "sentimental" favorites, even if it's someone I like, ala Stallone. Maybe Stallone deserved it, I can't say yet. But, I can say Rylance was superb in his role.

One wonders what attracts someone to a thread like this if they haven't gone to a movie in 30 years, just like Althouse.

I didn't watch. Even my wife forgot to record it and only started watching halfway through. I listened, as usual. I did see Dave Grohl's unplugged song.

The only 2015 movies I saw were "Martian" and the Road Warrior one. Enjoyed them both.

Did I miss anything?

Bridge of Spies, Man Up and The Intern were okay, among new DVD releases.

I speculate on what to get based on imdb plot summaries, and previous actor history.

Simon Pegg turns out to be often amusing. I never heard of him before.

Eagle vs Shark (2010) was good, when you think back on it the next day.

rhhardin said...

Spectre had Vivaldi labelled in the closed captions as (plays opera). Very high production values, no plot.

rhhardin said...

There are two 2015 releases of a Man Up. I was reviewing the Simon Pegg one. Don't know anything about the other one.

rh, here are some recommendations for you:

Crossing Delancey
Smoke Signals
Catch Me If You Can
The Shawshank Redemption
Bull Durham
Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant)
Napoleon Dynamite (I double-dog dare you.)
The Bourne Identity (Matt Damon)

Serial:
Pride and Prejudice (1995) I see on the IMDB site you can watch it free on Amazon Prime. Excellent production.

Sherlock (Benedict Cumberbatch) A superb modernization of the original stories.
