"San Francisco park reopens with city’s first outdoor urinal"

NY Post: San Francisco’s iconic Dolores Park is now home to the city’s first open-air urinal, the latest move to combat the destructive scourge of public urination in the City by the Bay.

The cement circular urinal is out in the open, though plants and a screen offer some privacy. It’s a welcome addition for the park that had just three toilets, which led many to relieve themselves in bushes and on buildings.

“Honestly, we were ready to go pee anywhere,” San Francisco-resident Aaron Cutler said told KNTV. “So any facility is better than none.”

Is that guy gonna stand there? Is he a doctor?

So...only the men need to pee at the park?

bagoh20 said...

You can squat there too. That guy will hold your purse.

If you are a woman, don't go to that park.

bago @ 1129 LOL

You'd think an artsy-fartsy city like SF could come up with something a little more...artistic.

There might be dirty pictures on the other side of the curtain.

That is not really the urinal right? Some kind of joke? I thought it was one of Chips art-pieces and I stared at the picture for 30 seconds waiting for the concrete ring to turn into the Olympic circles or something.

Oh well, men are pigs, they will piss anywhere.

OMG Deborah....lol. No thanks.

I used to live near Dolores Park (at 20th and Guerrero in a decent apartment building) and walked past it quite often. It was pretty nice back then to go to the park. I doubt I would like it now :-(

It was bad enough at the street car stop waiting in the early morning. All of us commuters would have to try to huddle together against the bums staggering around with literal poop and piss in their pants. Stinking up the place. Begging for money, threateningly or just in general being horrible nuisances. Great way to start the day...not. When the street car finally came, you could almost feel the relief from all of usand the rush to get onto the car and GTF away from the bums.

This is without a public trough for them to piss into now, which will only encourage more of them to hang about. San Francisco has become a cesspool.....literally.

It's so...gay.

My Fair City. So much thought, and industry, and tax dollars have gone into counter-peegramming. Glad to see the minimalist effort here. It's a sad but realistic acknowledgment that people are gonna pee outdoors, they'll pee wherever they want regardless of proximity to other humans, sanitation concerns, to say nothing of basic civility so, meh, here's a screen-like thing that we put up in case you're in the area and can't help but release your waters.

Dolores Park is in a beautiful neighborhood.

SF has been a cesspool forever. Truly, since inception. They just keep defining deviancy downwards. When I lived downtown in the 1980s it was gross. Ditto "Civic" Center (where the gov tools work.) Both of these areas are actually cleaner now than they were then. They removed the grass at Civic Center so there's nothing comfortable to lie on anymore. That was probably a motivator to get those bootheels truckin' on elsewhere. Out of sight, out of mind! Unless they moved to your neighborhood and lie around in your park. Bums still abide in the area (Tenderloin right around the corner) but they're not sleeping and peeing out in the open. As much.

It's kind of a neighborhood air freshener.

Don't worry. Anyone can watch. They're cool like that.

I think that's George Michael,"First".

That looks like Muni tracks in the background. Why not re-position the urinal right over the third rail? City Planners: I'm here to help! (For a small fee.)

bagoh20 said...

What exactly is the purpose of the fence? You can look, but don't touch?

Amartel said...

They probably sell ad space on the other side of the homeless penis privacy-screen. It is facing the tracks after all. Quickie real estate loan shark. DUI lawyer. "Your face here."

I'm sure women will love the feminine hygiene product placements or worse, male ED products.

Probationers get clean pee so they can pass drug screening tests. I'm thinking this will not be a good venue for that.

The design is clearly not just what a man needs. A set of urinals would do that better, but some genius said: "But women can't use that, they a need a low hole to squat over." "OK we can do that, and we'll put a see-through fence around it so they will feel safe." OK, your daughter first.

Wow, that's an active rail line just behind it. London managed to do this by making something the size of the phone booth with 3 walls, a door, and a roof. I guess that's too much for San Francisco. Enjoy the Superbowl!

It's San Fransisco. You don't need a public urinal to see a public golden shower. Hell, just go to the Folsum Street fair and you'll get all the pee and a whole lotta other stuff you didn't want, need, or ask for and then some.
