KLEM FM

This was Hendrix's American stage debut as The Experience. The Monterrey Pop Festival in June 1967 came only a few short months after his debut in England. This song was his first tribute to Bob Dylan.* Dylan had been invited to the Monterrey festival but declined for who knows what reason(s). Jimi's reference to "Bob Dylan's grandma over there" was a dig at bassist Noel Redding who sported "granny glasses" and a dylan-esque afro. The two never did get on together and Hendrix ultimately replaced Redding with Billy Cox who is the last surviving bandmate.

Princess on the steeple and all the pretty people
They’re drinkin’, thinkin’ that they got it made

Did Hendrix change the lyrics to say" "Prisoners of the steeple and all the pretty people laugh and drink and think they got it made"?

I don't know why you would sing with a wad of gum in your mouth, but he still articulates the words better the Dylan.

Wasn't that the year Dylan was recovering from his motorcycle accident? Also, he had begun to despise hippies.

Ostensibly, yes, but if you dig deeper, the accident was several months prior and there were other life-changing things going on.

I mean, didn't he wait two more years to perform live?

I'm sure the answer is in the fossil record.

If Dylan had died in that motorcycle accident he would have been bigger than Hendrix, Morrison, and James Dean all rolled into one. He missed his chance to become a legend.......The rock legends have been croaking at a brisk rate lately. The question isn't who will be next, but rather if any of them will make it past eighty. A rock legend 's life has much to recommend it, but longevity isn't one of the blessings.

Why are you so hung up on cock size, Nick? You sound exactly like Titus.

Again with the Titus impression, Nick. You're cracking me up!

I mean, you and Titus are the only only ones who keep repeating that mantra.
Stop being so transparent!
You're a better writer than that!

In a sense, this was American Idol, 1967 edition.

Personally, I hope that Dylan makes it to 90 and beyond.

That was great. It's easy to forget just how GREAT Hendrix was so long ago.

Also, Dylan's work is almost always better with someone else doing it. JMHO.

Right on, chick.
