A lot crazy shit happened in 2015, but if you asked me what would be the hardest to anticipate a year ago, I would have to say Bruce Jenner winning Woman of the Year. Donald Trump leading the the GOP is right up there though, but seriously, Bruce becoming a woman is hard enough, but Woman of the Year? WTF?
Demi Lovato did if for me tonight. What a voice. Opened Amazon and bought "Confident." This is the kind of song the kids will pick up and use to grow vocabulary in ASL, I betchya $10.00.
What? Nobody bets because you know I'm right, eh. I see three. And a whole bunch of other crap about confidence.
Anyway, Lovato is hot. She's so hot that I can't think straight because I just had a frontal Lovatomy. But she's covered in a huge black fur and peeks that you get make her appear a bit zaftig or perhaps just a bit less fitz and more fatz tig, but turns out I'm wrong she's hot as can be. The coat does her injustice. Power voice, and hot.
When the crystal ball drops it doesn't even shatter. It just gently alights upon its base as if successfully impaled without shattered glass, no kristallnacht, no bloodshed or any disturbance at all, a natural gravitational settling that is anticlimactic and unsatisfying. What are you guys, drunk? On drugs?
The T.V. presenter in Denver says, "fireworks above Denver skyline."
Hardly.
Well below Denver skyline. Well below. They show it right there, the blasts right nest to a much taller building. The fireworks are low and intimate. There's nothing braggy about them. There is no apparent municipal fiduciary waste. No war-like explosions. Nothing, NOTHING like that. Gone are the days of exuberant layered fireworks that shoot high over cities that build to crescendo that lasts impossibly long. Now they shoot fireworks on both ends of the 16th street mall so that they can be seen. Plus it's cold out, let's get coffee, the kids home, etc.
I like it.
It's better this way. If it sounds like I'm complaining, I'm not. But forget about anything martial in appearances. That is no longer done. Not around here.
These are my observations. The trend for 4th of July and the like. I can be wrong. There are still privately funded things.
Then the next t.v. presenter covered the museum next door. The children are assembled and the climax of the party the children stomped on bubble packaging, the controlled tiny popping sounds more harmless than squibs now substitute for explosive fireworks.
Much like therapy.
And I thought, this is what is meant by what is written incomprehensibly long ago when we read now that the meek shall inherit the earth. I puzzled about that since I was six.
How can that be so?
I am meek. I should be happy to see this development. But I'm not sure that I am happy to see it. Not when a black boy is shot dead for holding a bb gun. And not when the aggressive drive out the meek clearing off entire continents right before our shocked eyes and with extreme violence.
I didn't expect them to be concurrent -- meek inheriting while the violent drive themselves off simultaneously dispersing and purifying and concentrating their violence.
The meek are going to have to come out of character and kick the living shit out of the violent to disabuse them their ambitions. Permanently.
In order for the meek to truly inherit the earth to bubble wrapping popping for explosive excitement level.
It's a paradox.
Back to Demi, the entertainment on Times Square is fantastic and it's great seeing everyone having a good time and unintimidated besides, neener neener. This is ABC that I'm seeing. The whole thing has been very good. And I marvel at how big the host's mouth is, when he opens his mouth entirely you could push a whole hamburger in there and it'd disappear and amusingly elastic, small mouth to HUGE mouth.
We did five hours on sandbag line yesterday, then home for a shower and out to the symphony, home by 11, pizza and cider beer at midnight.
Just a note on sandbag lines, everyone in St Louis fills sandbags, we flood a lot here at the union of the Mississippi and Missouri rivers. My point is that there is no diversity crap on a sandbag line, there is no attempt to make sure there are enough women, or indians, or bosinians or whatever.
Kids get the empty bags and open them for the fillers, women and older people fill and move the bags to the trucks, adult men load the trucks and drive them to the levee, and mostly young strong males are the ones that place the bags and build the wall that will in turn keep safe the women, us old people and kids.
and of course if there is a woman who can hoist 40lbs then of course she should work where she can do the most good, the whole thing flows very organically and people find the right spot for their abilities.
Happy New Year indeed! I'm still new and quiet here. Reading Chip's comment I am compelled to share: Lizzie Hale. Halestorm. Has anyone ever heard of them? They are relatively new, but god damn that woman can sing. Hot, power voice, hard rock. My happy place is when she screams at the top of her lungs- nirvana.
Steg, welcome and don't be a lurker for too long. More voices are needed here. Also, I'm very aware of Lizzie Hale. She brings some good old fashion rock n' roll into the mix with some power and punch. She reminds me a lot of Joan Jett. I also like how she injects, ever so slightly a country tempo into the music.
