"When my parents owned a huge VHS camcorder, they filmed everything..."

"Now that there's a video camera in their pocket, they film nothing."

You stopped being interesting to them.
Merry Christmas!

So, since taking video and photos of everything is so cheap and readily available, people took photos of everything when smartphones were on the rise in the early 2010s. Food, cats, dog poop, whatever. My wife used to be this person and you know, you lose the spontaneity and preciousness of "the moment" when you're always making a desperate effort to preserve it. Honestly, there is something to be said about dialing down the onslaught of recording everything and take the time instead to be present with the feelings and energy of everything happening during that time. Maybe you don't have physical evidence that something happened, but that feeling you had is forever and irreplaceable.
Remember the feelings. Merry Christmas.

It's not interesting now that you can film everything.

Probably because they realized no one actually watches home videos after the fact

I wish people at concerts would learn that. They not only miss the moment they are in, but they ruin things for everyone else.

My wife and I made a conscious decision to avoid recording or photographing everything our kids do. I do worry that we haven't taken enough, we have almost no video. But seeing so many view their entire lives through a phone camera or video screen makes me glad for the experiences we share.

Nothing beats the family portrait, in my opinion.

The cameras in phones make it much easier to get syrup ticious shots all over the place. And don't blame me for spelling, I didn't invent this automatic thing. Come on, you don't even have to be clever, just fiddle with your phone occasionally. They make stands for phones, you can have it appear that you're charging it. You don't even need anything, just lean it agains your beer can. Video here and there and none of the, "come on boys, do your usual entertaining spontaneous things that amuse us so much." Like the time-lapses, they take a bit of planning then just let it happen. And you know what? As a time-lapse photographer *strikes oratorial pose* I've come to realize loads and loads of sunrises and sunsets simply are not that interesting, say, maybe with a speck of interest, or a few interesting specks, but that's it.

Specks of interest.

Add humans to the speck list.

It's the glimmer of light within that adds interest.

The rest is loads and more of the same, repeated over and over.

Nice closure there, MamaM.
