Yeah, that's the circular logic spinning circularly, first this way and then that as if straddling the equator leaving hurricane roils in your wake as you proceed left left left and as the world rotates ineluctably right spinning off curlicues of illogic.
I just made that up, it's poo. I denounce myself and turn my attention elsewhere.
Two kids are acting it out in what appears to be a large clean garage, or a stage with large roll up back garage doors. Props are only two chairs.
The beautiful thing about is the careless roughness of the boy virtually ripping the arm off the girl to jerk her back. They do this a couple times and I must say it is hot. Adults cannot get away with that crap. It reminded me of how freely we behaved at that age both male and female apparently unaware of all the terrible hazards that behavior will and does bring. Jail, attorney's fees, record, fines, probation, lawsuits, all of it.
Comments are positive.
Then this amid a larger rant:
Signs are sloppy and it's a horrible translation. In deaf culture standing and watching you burn as she signs it would not make any sense. It should have been translated to pain, struggle, or even suffer. And she signs crying and standing incorrectly.
The comment is panned for being ugly but this portion is exactly right.
My comments:
* I love these kids. It looks like a class project. A+ They did very well. * Disappointingly incomplete. Whole lines and passages untranslated. * "Stand there and watch me burn" can be shown so graphically so simply it's not even funny. The girl is saying literally "sail" the prow of a ship that moves forward, so that it looks like "continue." I think I'm supposed to be seeing, "and you continue." but I'm not seeing an accusatory "you" And this is a repeated phrase. Her "burn" is the same as "cry quite a lot." Both sides tears pouring down.
Flames going up the face, tears pouring down, same difference in this translation. These two things, "burn" and "cry" are different in the lyrics and can be differentiated easily, but the girl does not do that. That is what ASL speakers are seeing that is missing that bugs them. The commenter is right. But an ass.
In the song, the second phrase really is "stand there and watch me cry," so the girl uses the same motions for both. What she is doing works, but there are much better ways to show this clearly and graphically undisputedly the precise same concepts without any chance for misinterpretation or forfeit of meaning. So her's really is sloppy. The commenter is right. And the comments that follow are right, the original commenter is an asshole for pointing all this out because these kids are adorable and they are only just beginning.
Come on, imagine it, "You stand there." How would you show it? "And watch me" How would you show that?
Point accusingly, "You!" two fingers for legs, boink "Stand there" apart from yourself. "Look at me" "the same two fingers flick and become eyes looking at you, "Burn" being eaten up cancerously inside, the other hand clawing cancer crawling all over your chest eating you up while the other hand eyeballs are watching. Very graphic. Or else actual fire. Either will do. But make an agonized face boom there it is right there. so simple it's almost pantomime but it all leans on ASL convention. That's how it's done, how things are shown and with indisputable clarity.
* drunk. There is a very common signal for drunk, a thumb glancing the chin downwardly with a drunken facial expression, the boy pantomimes "hurl" very effectively. It's fun to see him take that liberty.
* I love watching the dude's sign match Emenem's rap. Very entertaining. I wish it were complete. Now, you two, do Rapture, Bitches, because that song doesn't make sense and there aren't any signs or signals for the words and it's nonsense French and names that all goes very fast. Still, you get a picture of events out of it.
* I am so digging ALL of these kids doing ALL of these songs and uploading their projects. It is really fun. They're fun. The whole lot are fun.
This guy is fun as hell. He's having fun. The song is a bit repeat-y, but Man, is his sign clear as a bell. Christmas bell, not cowbell. Buddhist bronze temple bell, not broken ass Liberty bell. This dude rings. Except all you're going to see for "Jagger" is "J-G-R" if not only "J-R" but whatchya gonna do? Other than that, perfection. Bravo.

"It's in da hole!"
Funny how that works out.

Know what's not poo? This song, Rihanna and Eminem -- Love the Way you lie.

You're all gay.
No, Sirius lee.
I chanced upon this by looking for something else. I never heard of this song before, Moves Like Jagger by Maroon 5 featuring Christina Aguilera.

I am pretty sure that guy never used a conundrum in his life.
Lol. Very true.
