Rita Hayworth

I had no idea this is who Rita Hayworth is. I thought she was a WWII pin up girl. These clips show she was spectacularly fun.

I have seen these clips with Fred Astaire but I thought the woman he dances with is his sister, Adele, because Fred's dancing partner is a crossword fill answer. Her name is a gimmie for solvers. And now this clip shows the woman is Rita and that changes everything. Honestly, the men look like they're working and she looks like she's having a blast.

Non-Hayworth related, there is another similar mashup, an old clip of the Ross Sisters also having a blast mashed up with new music. They're contortionists. The clip is intriguing and well done. Viewers complained they like the original music better, a ridiculous song, Solid Potato Salad. And the whole time you're watching the first mashup you're thinking, how in the world did they squeeze an act like that into a movie? It doesn't fit with anything. And the barn floor is unbarnlike stage flat. Turns in the original the way they fit in the act is have a movie about fitting the girls act into a show to be played at the barn theater. Mystery solved.

Great video, Chip. From Wikipedia...

"Hayworth was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1918 as Margarita Carmen Cansino, the oldest child of two dancers. Her father, Eduardo Cansino, Sr., was from Castilleja de la Cuesta, a little town near Seville, Spain. Her mother, Volga Hayworth, was an American of Irish-English descent who had performed with the Ziegfeld Follies. The couple married in 1917. They also had two sons: Eduardo Cansino, Jr. and Vernon Cansino."

Rita Hayworth not only was good, she had friends who stood by her when the party was over and she was afflicted by early onset Alzheimers.

I love her. I just want to have scooped her up and saved her from her series of terrible choices. I want to have shown her a true love with stability and peace, but it seems she was the type who say they want that and then choose exactly the opposite type of man. So many women, especially famous ones, repeatedly choose unhappiness and disappointment amid a sea of better opportunites.

She was an extremely popular actress, starring in pictures like "Gilda", "Pal Joey", "They Came to Cordura," and "The Lady From Shanghai".

She and Betty Grable just about won WWII all by themselves.

She started missing jobs because of it and people at first joked about it, but she was the first high-profile case anybody ever heard of.

That people were a lot more compassionate when they heard about Chuck Heston and Glen Campbell is because of her.

There is very little video of Adele Astaire and I don't any of them dancing together. There is some audio....warbling to Gershwin tunes (written for their show!)but her voice is more comic than good!

In written comments on her though...she was quite a party girl which drove her brother Fred crazy. Her nickname for him was "Moaning Minnie" for his constant insistence on more rehearsal which cut into her partying time.

When Fred got married she needlepointed him a pillow which had a bucolic forest scene on one side, and on the other...the word "FUCK".

But she was not the looker like Rita.
In Rita's autobiography (written with her daughter) she felt RELIEF that she was diagnosed with the just discovered Alzheimer's. She thought she was having some kind of mental illness; others thought she was a hidden alcoholic.

She passed away in 1987, same year as Astaire.

BTW, Astaire's burial plot is a mere few feet away from... Ginger Rogers, who died in 1995.

This is a superb mash up. I looked at a couple more, but they didn't seem sync as well.
