Andrew Kaczynski with BuzzFeed says he cannot find the source. If only there were a thing like an internet search engine that could electronically sort documents for key phrases like [never tyranny united states because people guns]
Oh goodness. Results go:
Carson
Carson
Carson
Carson
Carson
Carson apparently pushed millions of buttons at once. How hilarious. If this doesn't encapsulate every political argument I've ever engaged. Sorting through Carson results, ignoring obvious angi-gun results, skipping results with "myth" in them, skipping results telling Carson to shut up, skipping results rewording history, we see it is Noah Webster and not Daniel Webster who has a similar gun-related quote. When we search [noah webster +guns] we see Noah Webster said about guns that one thing.
Noah Webster, of dictionary fame, believed in cultural independence, looks like this pre 1843:
Daniel Webster is later, known for his booming voice, powerful orator, key Whig leader, he looks like this.
Presently a Republican Representative from Florida named Daniel Webster vying for Speaker of the House, legalized homeschooling in Florida. Homeschooled his six children. Introduced "covenant marriage" that would make divorce more difficult. He looks like this.

The idea someone they can never admit is smarter than they could be right on an issue where their views are carved in stone is like saying they're wrong about everything.
Which is largely true.
Would you like to see an animated gif of the sunset tonight? The band at the horizon looks like Utah is on fire while the clouds overhead that stretch serenely apart from the chaos in the west nonetheless reflect its colors of shocked dismay in my patch of sky.
Notice, the original Daniel Webster made absolutely no effort to ingratiate himself in his photograph. The present DW shoves the usual I'm-a-regular-guy smile in our face. Two ages. Two Americas.
