Bernie Sanders: U.S. Founded on ‘Racist Principles’

"Bernie Sanders said the United States was founded on “racist principles” during a speech at Liberty University on Monday. The senator from Vermont and Democratic presidential candidate referred to incidents of police shooting unarmed black men as examples of continued institutionalized racism. “We have got to stand up and say, in America you’re not going to do that. Racism is unacceptable,” he said."

Well, "U.S. Founded on ‘Racist Principles’" is irrefutable, isn't it?

If racism is unacceptable when will the tax enslavement of whites to foot the bill for black welfare end?

And shut up, Meade.

This country was founded on stealing things from the Indians.

Donald Trump intends to follow in that hallowed tradition.

He will be taking over all the casinos once he is elected President.

That is why Bobby Jindal was so upset.

When he heard that Trump was going to take stuff from the Indians he thought his 7-11 was at risk.

ricpic, is that your Obama phone ringing?

Can you point to anyone in the 18th century who wasn't a bigot? Racial and religious bigotry were a form of idealism back then, much as egalitarianism is now for people like Bernie Sanders.

AllenS said...

All countries/societies are founded on racist principles. All of them.

What were the views of Bernie Sanders grandfather re gay marriage? Do we really want the grandson of a notorious homophobe as our president.

AllenS said...

Only in America could you have a racist organization like "The Congressional Black Caucus".

Meade said...

"Racism is unacceptable"

But did Bernie let those BLM activists commandeer his microphone because he perceived them as, say, Asian? I doubt it. Bernie gave in to "acceptable" racialism.

It was "acceptable" for many people such as Sanders to support candidate Obama because of Obama's perceived race. McCain then tried "acceptable" sexism by choosing an under-qualified Sarah Palin as his running mate. Acceptable racism trumps acceptable sexism.

Well, Bernie confirms that the Democrat Party was officially destroyed by the Choom Gang.

Nothing like telling the electorate you hate their guts.

Very Dixie Chicks.

And there's the news that Hillary is now saying sexual assault victims have the right to be believed. Can't wait for the interviews with Kathleen Willey, Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones, and Elizabeth Gracen.

Looks like that bump on the noggin is having an effect.

I was reading this morning about Ethel Kennedy and Bobby Jr. Jeeze, what a couple of messes. Ethel Kennedy said some really nasty racial things.

Nasty.

It angered me because Jr. had a pet hawk and I wasn't allowed one. What a bummer. The little black dude who ran the Shetland Sheepdog training had a couple of hawks in his back yard and I have to admit they were not attractive birds out there. All cooped up and those birds were rarely the glorious creatures of flight they're known to be.

Then later I had CNN on in anticipation debates but they had something else on instead. A woman took the podium, she was wearing a bright flashy dress and extensive jewelry and was just so well-pleased with being there the center of attention surrounded by all of her activated friends. They were having a great time together in like-minded confab and exceedingly high spirits.

"Well we know when you want to build a house you don't start with the roof. Well, I haven't actually built a house," laughter all throughout, she bows in acknowledging her own tremendous humor and good natured high spirits, "But you don't have to be a scientist to believe global warming." *click*

Fuck me. You have GOT to be kidding. Nobody believes that stupid shit anymore. Only very stupid people cling to that straight up bullshit. And here she is not just clinging but rousing enthusiasm within the whole room, colorfully, delightfully and filled with mean-spirited fun. they're just all so certain that government is benevolent and a force for good in their ridiculous mal-aligned lives.

Only by today's SJW standards. Not 18th century standards. Do you believe this yourself Mr. Althouse or have you become an SJW troll? What were Bernie Sanders Principals founded on? Insert the jeopardy music here.

What country was not founded on "racist principles"? Nation states are always us versus them when they start out and "them" are always inferior somehow. Canada? Nope, sorry, racist principles. Indian abuse. Not Mexico either. Those crackers were all claiming "Spanish descent" until Something Happened (somewhere around 1985-1990) and suddenly everyone was descended from Aztecs. They can't decide who to be racist to but it's gotta be somebody. This notion of being "founded on racist principles" I'm assuming is due to the shameful institution of slavery. An institution that was widespread all over the world for thousands of years and was hotly disputed from the get-go here. BUT, was slavery a FOUNDING principle? I think not. A founding principle would be one that was decisive in breaking away from other ties and starting a new nation, such as Britain sucks and we are tired of underwriting their empire or Britain's system of government is marginally okay but we can do so much better. Colonel Sanders is just mouthing progressive piety trigger word blocks that are so familiar that no one even bothers to question them.

Well that does it. I don't want to be an American anymore. I'll change my mind if Bernie can fix that founding racist thingy. I know he has a plan for that. Socialists always have a plan. I'm betting it will be a 5-year plan. He's attacking the problem with a good strategy. He's on the inside of the Democratic Party that continues their long fight to maintain first slavery then racism, and he is taking that organization over. Once he has control of it, he can order it disbanded and all KKK memorabilia in their closets burned.

Next, he can take on pressing issues like the role of women in 1776, and rampant alcohol consumption in the colonies, and what about that horse thievery. It's good to be the king.

Hey Bernie, You know what else the nation was founded on? Revolt against taxation and oppressive government intrusion. Where do you stand on that?

bagoh20 said...

He does make good fast fried chicken, and I love the mash potatoes and gravy.

bagoh20 said...

I think what Bernie is trying to say is that some good things have come out of racism. I don't think that's a message that will work, even if he can show clear examples. You just can't go there, Colonel.

Meade said...

Prickly.

Hey, just because the U.S. was founded on racist principles doesn't mean it wasn't also founded on other principles. Better principles. Higher principles. Even the high principles that sometimes come into conflict with other high principles such as religious freedom and equal protection. Or, say, the right to due process and the right to life. The right to liberty and the right to private property. Limited government and general welfare.

But what Bernie said is generally true: racism, tribalism, ethnocentrism, sexism all used to be acceptable ideologies. Over the last 60 years or so, they no longer are. Most Americans do not long to go back to those olden days. Most Americans who do long to go back to those olden days are themselves old. Old or ill.

Most young people, like the young people Bernie was addressing at Liberty University, have no use for racism, tribalism, or sexism. Many of the students at Liberty University, I suspect, fully understand Jesus's parable of the Good Samaritan.

Mr. Althouse the Eunich,

You clearly missed the part of the pre-emimenent principal of the founding of this country is that All Men Are Created Equal. It's right there in black and white, written in plain English. It didn't say, All Men Shall Be Treated Equally. What Bernie, the Lung Butter man said isn't remotely true because it isn't remotely accurate or factual and the fact that you agree with him simply shows how utterly vapid and shallow your thinking on the subject is, which is to say that you are a fool that is easily swayed with lies and sweet sounding words. You haven't the faintest comprehensible idea of how this country was founded. You couldn't even string together the simplest puzzle of logic that I simply highlighted to you above. All Men Are Created Equal is not a racist principal. If it is, then show me where the racist principals are in the documents that founded this country. Let's see them.

Furthermore, keep the rest of your incessant blathering of non-sequitured nonsense to yourself because frankly, no one gives two of your dogshits what you think on the subject.

The right to petition government for redress of grievances is the right to make a complaint to, or seek the assistance of, one's government, without fear of punishment or reprisals.

I don't see anything racist in those words.

Bernie and those who defend him are lacking even a nominal level of consideration of facts, or cause and effect. What is it 1968 again with no lessons learned all these years?

"But what Bernie said is generally true: racism, tribalism, ethnocentrism, sexism all used to be acceptable ideologies. Over the last 60 years or so, they no longer are."

Where have you been, man? Those things are on the rise, and now part of official government endorsed policy everywhere it rules. There is a reason why so many government forms ask your race, and ethnicity. Do yo think it's so they can treat everyone equal? And do you really think institutions like higher education are treating the sexes equally today?

Smell the coffee. Yes, things have changed, but that is not automatically progress, unless you're 17 or think like you are.

It used to be humbling that slave owners over 200 years ago understood freedom and equality better than college educated people today, but humility is also a thing of the past, apparently just for "old" people.

Seriously, Meade...is "racialism" something you learned from your wife or, friends in Madison, or both? It sounds so contrived.

My mother, who consider a typical Madisonian, would never use that word.

Sanders is the anti-Trump and Trump is the anti-Sanders. Populist candidates have never fared well with the mainstream, but have enjoyed rabid loyalty from their fans. Sanders and Trump have tapped into the growing discontent in the USA. The thing is Trump's position appeals to the crowd that says the government is the problem, while Sanders position attracts those who say that the government is the solution.

Both are correct. Neither is correct.

Despite desperately hoping that the historical trend will continue, the problem is that both candidates, despite being unfit for office of any kind, are running on the major ticket. The third party ticket is where populist candidates have traditionally gone to wither away...even Teddy Roosevelt couldn't overcome third party status. One of these clowns might pull off the nomination, and the mindless sheep will pull the lever for their party's nominee.

Our nation's problems are far more complex than racism, runaway government control and spending, failing public schools, the Federal Reserve, global warming, gay rights, or the Westboro Baptist Church. Yet, we have people who jump up on the modern day soapbox and post links to articles an videos on facebook that "prove" that if we only fixed this one problem, we'd usher in a thousand years of peace.

We were founded on racism? C'mon, Bernie, you're a commie, it was surely money and the subjugation of all worker, regardless of race, that inspired Jefferson, Franklin, and Washington. No, wait, maybe it was fundamentalism. Between the priests setting up missions in the southwest corner of the continent and the Puritans hanging witches and Quakers in the northeast corner, it's been "Onward Christian Soldiers" from the start.

Please. Demagogues appeal to the emotions of the victim class, who want a boogeyman to blame for their lack of success. Is the economic game rigged? Yes, but not impregnable. Work hard, get a lucky break, and you can find yourself in the club, where opportunities exist that didn't before. Is there a conspiracy behind that? No, other than the conspiracy of rotten human nature that's been driving us since Cain took out Abel.

Racist? Pretty simple-minded thinking, devoid of any sophisticated understanding of history, economics, or human nature.
