"Man jailed for suspected crystal meth possession released after police confirm it was just salt"

"The man from Maryborough, Queensland in Australia... was detained for four months while police carried out forensic tests. The man’s lawyer, Travis George said the length of time was likely due his client’s previous criminal convictions."
A Maryborough magistrate, John Smith said: “For the last 14 years nothing has been done (about the delays)… once again the government needs to have a look at what they are doing in relation to this”.
Breaking Bad.

Interesting documentary on the History Channel.

Crystal meth, marketed as Pervitin, was a popular pick-me-up in pre-war Germany.

Not only was Theodor Morell was mainlining it into Al to help with his manic depression, but Pervitin was issued to the Wehrmacht by the millions.

It was one of the reasons blitzkrieg worked so well. You could keep a panzer division on the move for 2-4 days nonstop.

One side effect, however, was that it destroys a person's empathy, making atrocities a lot easier to commit and live with.

Until you kicked it.
