The American prison system is so reviled, in fact, that Irish officials recently refused to extradite an alleged terrorist to the U.S. The court cited concerns that if he were sent to the U.S., he would probably be placed in Colorado’s “Supermax” prison,
ADX Florence (Administrative Maximum Facility)."
Irish High Court Justice Aileen Donnelly went as far as to write a 333-page report about why the suspect shouldn’t be extradited. One highlight from the court’s ruling was that incarceration at ADX Florence prison would amount to “cruel and unusual punishment.”
Donnelly said the prison “amounts to a breach of the constitutional requirement to protect persons from inhuman and degrading treatment and to respect the dignity of the human being.”
“[P]rolonged exposure to involuntary solitary confinement exacts a significant physiological toll, is damaging to the integrity of the mind and personality, and is damaging to the bodily integrity of the person,” she continued. (read more)

Awesome! Our prison system, including the legal system responsible for overfilling, needs serious work. Hopefully added pressure from the international community will help get the ball rolling.

Will this cause criminals to stop emigrating to the USA?....At least we don't let the Christian Brothers run them. That would be really cruel and inhumane.
Fine by me. YOU house the alleged terrorist. It's not like there isn't precedent. The UK is one-third alleged terrorist housing anyway. Better yet, release the alleged terrorist back into the wild so Obama can drone him.

Awesome! Remember when the IRA was blowing up and shooting everyone every which way including Lord Mountbatten and his grandson?
The guy served 18 years (even though he attempted escape and another time obtained a firearm he used in prison).
So that gives one and idea of what blowing people up will cost you in Ireland (3 others, including his 14 year old grandson and another young boy)died as a result, at least one other grandson was seriously injured.
No wonder she is such a sterling judge of our penalty for terrorists.
