"3 American friends tackle and hogtie gunman aboard European train"

"French President François Hollande plans to meet three Americans who foiled a suspected terrorist attack on a packed high-speed train running from Amsterdam to Paris."
Friday’s dramatic incident — in which a heavily armed man emerged from a train bathroom with an automatic rifle and started shooting — was being investigated by French counterterrorism authorities. Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel described the incident as a terrorist attack.
The three men were friends from middle school and two of them were members of the armed services, according to their family members.

American troops getting it done.

what makes me smile at all the "oohing" and "aahing" when we thought it was Marines.

This is better. This shows how well-trained all our guys are and why His Poutiness is so desperate to destroy that with LGBTYUIOPLKJHFDSAZXCVNMQWE and women that can't cut it.

So what did the bald guy with glasses do?

He got up and helped them. I saw his press conference. He said that he felt he had a choice of sitting down and being killed or of rushing the guy ans being killed. He said that he would prefer to die doing something rather than doing nothing. It was a good lne. He was likable and decent and gave proper credit to the Americans for heir courage.

His Poutiness is so desperate to destroy that ...

Obama's initial response did downplay the event, as if the American's actions were something short of heroic. Maybe he roots for Morocco?

He roots for the terrorists.

Everybody knows that.

Maybe he'll apologize for what he probably thought was their unnecessary roughness.

The French wasted no time giving these guys medals.

In American, they would be arrested.

Its seems the real hero is in the hospital and missed all the press conferences.

Hope he gets some credit.

I've been on a train to Paris filled with Euros and tourists. Most of them couldn't take down a wet paper cup. They got lucky.

This incident was an amazing display of ordinary men doing extraordinary things...and doing it together. Even with a long military background I cannot say for sure I'd have done the same thing...you never know until the situation arises. Courage is funny like that. I'd like to think I'd have reacted as trained to rush into a fight not hide or do nothing. Many of us, innocently may think we know what we'd do, but you really don't until it happens and you or someone else says "Let's go!" As you move forward you cut off the angle of attack, very simple offensive tactics....e.g., the best defense is a strong offense. No simple thing in a aisle-way of a train from 30 feet away. The lead guy had time to think about what was coming for him next...thankfully the AK jammed. The laid back puzzlement over the accolades by all those who acted tells me all I need to know...they just did what they had to do and saved many others in the process. If God blesses anyone may he bless them. The lead guy, an Air Force guy, somehow knew to go for the throat of the assailant, thus causing him to lose focus on his malicious intentions. The others acted in concert and disarmed the man, and held him down until the first guy, now cut up by a box cutter, again throttled him to unconsciousness...then all acted to disable and tie up the man. Teamwork by men who never had to act in this manner together before, shows what leadership can do. And they didn't just kill the guy when they had every opportunity and every right to do so. Exceptional Americans and Frenchmen all.

My kid is going to Amsterdam in November with a friend...I've asked her to ride no trains to Paris, please. Kim is one of those people I'd expect to act instantly, but I'd prefer she not have the need to do so. She's well trained and qualified to act, I assure you...I spent most of her high school years in her principle's office explaining how and why I taught her to defend herself offensively, especially when confronted with racism (she's half Korean...why do so many idiots assume she's a "Chink?")...we'd agreed she should not lie, ever, long before, and so she told them who taught how to do what...the "leg sweep" really puzzled the principle guy (though he never was bothered by the racism involved?) ...even after I explained it was a defensive tactic in Tae Kwon Do and other martial arts. The PC folks just didn't get it. They never seem to do so they?

Call me a paranoid father. I'd prefer her safe from start to finish...without need to demonstrate courage or skills of offense. She is after all my little girl.

"Exceptional Americans and Frenchmen all"...should have been "Americans, Englishmen, and Frenchmen"...the lead was American but the follow on was all of those. Many presume the French are "surrender monkeys" but that is only the politicians, not the individuals...read Jule Roy's and Bernard Fall's books and you will get the real picture of French soldier courage at Dien Bein Phu. The politicians set the stage for defeat, but the soldiers didn't waver in the face of obvious defeat...set scattered encampments in the lowlands, as directed by the politicians, with the enemy controlling the highlands and you are in for a real problem. In short, courage is not a national trait it is a human trait...and Americans are quite good at it. Never the less, bless them all.
