John Stewart flubs and/or intellectually half-asses lots of stuff all the time. I don't know why more people don't call him out on it.
Personally I think Colbert's much better but I think some people sense some sort of "purity" in Stewart's id that they're able to forgive more easily, or even prefer.
Americans don't like things too complicated, and Johnny makes sure is sarcasm is as over-simplified as possible.
Don't ever forget who you call in an emergency… at 911? The government!
Yo, the cops are the most obvious and visible element of the government there is! And I don't know who is attacking them or refusing to consider the dangers they face.
California is probably the most populous state. Of course it would lead in assaults on cops.
Two things can be simultaneously true. Cops face inordinate danger, and they are also prone to using inordinate force inappropriately. There's nothing wrong with cracking down on cops who go postal.
Which is kind of a funny thing to think about. It's ok for us to ridicule and use the phrase "going postal" on certain gov't employees. Cops can feel it, too.
Whatever the stance, there should be more mental health programs and stress relief for cops, the same way we address PTSD in the military. And much better community outreach. I'm pretty sure that a cop who views potentially anyone in the community as the enemy is not a good cop. There shouldn't really be a good excuse for refusing to emphasize restraint and cooperation in non-violent arrests. There are simply too many tough lardasses who get off on sitting on another civilian lardass's head. That's wrong.
OTOH, I've seen some crazy videos of roadside arrests where the suspect totally got what was coming to him. A lot of cop abuses, also. But a citizen in an auto has inherently more danger and flight risk at their disposal.
Colbert is a douchebag whose one trick got old quickly. He's riding Clown Nose's coat tails until a suitable media niche (cranky leftwing hack host) opens up at the Late Show. I bet he doesn't even match Letterman's ratings.

Watching John Stewart will make you dumber.
Clown nose gets schooled. Doesn't matter. Clown nose's audience not interested in truth, only truthiness.
