Who really wants to go and see The Interview?

Tinker to Evers to Chance are so yesterday now that we've got Tapper to Hewitt to Lem!

Tapper is a great reporter and obsessive tweeter. I asked him a question about the Dish CNN debacle a few weeks ago and he responded promptly

You're big time now, Lem. Big time.

I would be OK with turning Seth Rogen over to the Norks.

XRay said...

Good job, Lem!

I have no desire to see that movie. I would also be OK with turning Hollywood in its entirety over to NK. I think it'd be rather a good fit actually.

Darcy said...

Cool! I love Lem's style.

Turning all of Hollywood over to the tyrannical maniacs of North Korea would ironically make America as culturally boring and irrelevant as North Korea.

Can someone please explain to me where the Hollywood hatred comes from? It's one of our most successful exports and I highly doubt any of you haters lacks for a tv, as I intentionally did for five of the last six years.

(I relented after finding a nice internet tv last year, which does everything I need it to do. YouTube, Amazon Prime, etc., and no background Zombie programming. Nothing cues up until I hit "play", which is just how I like it).

They make movies that insult our intelligence while the actor actually DO insult us. Call conservatives names and have obvious dislike for anyone who isn't them or believes like them. The movies make caricatures of Republicans, Conservatives, Country people, working class schlubs. Those characters are portrayed as stupid or evil. Stereotypes until your eyes glaze over.

Movies have a propaganda undertone....so loud and so ham handed that it is an overtone. We don't get to see a story and be entertained or moved without having some sort of political crappola thrown in. Global warming, gay rights, trans gender, racism, business is always bad.....whether it is pertinent to the movie or not. Left wing progressive agendas shoved down our throats.

Hyprocrites who hate us. Meanwhile they really want our money.

I haven't been to a movie theater in 8 years. Like R&B we stream our entertainment over the net to the tv and rarely ever watch actual television shows. Netflix, Amazon prime, PBS on line, and a whole lot of other channels.

If they would shut up and sing. Shut up and make good movies without insulting our intelligence.

If I want to have my intelligence insulted by Hollywood, I'll go watch a really really bad sci fi movie or comedy that is up front about being insultingly bad. So bad....that they are funny and often good.

DBQ knows, of course.

Hate, haters, is so, well, the term is so overly done Ritmo.
Though how deft of you to delve into my mind and so strictly discern my being.

Stick to what you know, which may be useful, or at least I hope so.

The movie industry is like any other industry. The biggest and most powerful companies (studios) within cater to the basest and least refined impulses. Such is popularity. It doesn't matter if it's Exxon Mobil or Time-Warner. If you want quality you have to find smaller companies that care about carving out that so-called refined niche that those who want the most profitable/least intelligent/most common denominator forego, as the former have the most to gain by finding the blind spots that the bigger ones miss.

It's interesting, your thoughts on big studios mirror mine on big companies of other sorts (big agribusinesses or big energy companies - you probably also feel the same about big network companies). So it's interesting that you allow yourself/yourselves to feel more insulted by the most powerful market forces of the entertainment industries while I used to feel more insulted by the basest market forces of other industries. Either way it's just economics and it's good that we all have choices available to us that reflect better/more responsible tastes when it comes to entertainment, food, energy, or anything else.

But every now and then we all get cravings for something that we know is horrible for us and anyone in general...

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

That said, Seth Rogen's obviously a more talented entertainer than the pretty boys and pretty girls his age, plus he gets huge cache for being the most open about the harmlessness and creative catalyst of weed that most people (even of his cohort) are way too embarrassed by to admit to.

Then again, his sparkle fizzled out around 2010. He still works because who else is going to do it, but the one-trick-ponies that made Superbad and Pineapple Express fun are bound to wear off eventually, as in that movie about "The End", or whatever. You can only make so many wacky stoner movies that actually work.

On the third hand, at least the idea behind their latest movie has reached a new level of outrageousness, and certain countries do need stirring up. Plus, it led to a hacking scandal that I suppose connies are happy about in how "exposed" certain studio communications were made to look by it.

So while I think his act has gone beyond its shelf-life, let's be honest that it's all fluff. Having watched all four seasons of a series as excellent as "The Tudors", I took a chance on CW's attempt to do the same with Mary I in the series "Reign". It was as horrible as "Twilight". Worse, in fact. What a travesty. And probably with none of the complaints you'd level at a Hollywood production. But crap is crap is crap and there's a lot of it around, even if it's different crap. Apparently the world needs a lot of crap. The market for it is huge. Crap of every variety, making its way to a neighborhood near you!

The new season of Girls is starting in January and I am on pins and needles to see how Lena deals with living in flyover country, obtaining her Masters in Writing in Iowa City.

Go Lena, in the midwest, assimilate kind of.

And I love you so much Lena-you are an urban's dream cum true.

Lena!!!!!!

Titus' post put the sticky iced glaze on Ritmo's remarks.

A Great Culture War salvo.

chickelit said...

Ritmo, you're in the same trench as Titus.

Enjoy!

Michael Haz said...

Nice going, Lem.

I'm going to see the movie just because that little North Korean twerp said that I shouldn't. Piss on that.

I have no idea what a Seth Rogan is, although I buy shoes at a local store called Rogan's, so I'll be extra sure to check his on-screen footwear selections.

I'm sneaking in my own popcorn.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

You didn't even read what I wrote, Chick. No wonder you're losing a "culture war". You're not culturally literate enough to read! Lol!

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

This post of Lem's was unfair to Chick. It needs to be diagrammed out in a ball-and-stick model. Or maybe with transition states drawn in, and activation energies. References to aspects of life above the merely chemical are a charade. But somehow that's a reason to get snippy with all non-conservatives. Or something.

I remember when Chickie called me Flourine.

I think I'm more like phosphorous. Many states. Some reactive, some not. And I combine well.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

God dammit now I gave him something else to blog about next.

chickelit said...

I did read it, Ritmo. The problem is that I know years of your opinions, likes and dislikes and Titus's too.

Deal with it.

Why the hate for this particular industry? My TV is inundated with self-congratulatory crap from people with sub-par intelligence, perspective, and wisdom. They preen before us convinced of their righteousness and awesome superiority. They put great effort into telling us how to think, live, and govern ourselves, while they do precisely what they want in their own lives. They tell us how evil the oil industry is, or business people, or capitalism, or the military, or police, while they gorge themselves on the fruits of all of it. They are hubris, elitism, hypocrisy, and narcissism incarnate.

Other than that, they are pretty cool. Just ask any of the dictators they call friends.

bagoh20 said...

"No wonder you're losing a "culture war"."

This is what has morphed from the familiar "This why you don't win elections anymore."

Soon to be replaced with "This why nobody in my Star Wars sweat lodge likes you guys."

Michael Haz said...

You didn't even read what I wrote, Chick.

No one does.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

It wasn't an opinion. It was a question, followed by an answer by DBQ, followed by my comparison of big studios to big companies of any industry. Hence, it didn't really have much of anything to do with any ideology, and could contained something agreeable to anyone with a mind, curiosity and interest in the world around them. But of course you had to dig for something exclusively political to find in it. Bravo, man!

Have you seen the new Weezer video? Post that or something instead of turning your threads into Althouse sessions. Or is the rain out there getting to you? Either way, you seem aggravated.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

That's not true, Hazzie, and you don't need to be an a-hole about it. When I get quoted, I'm being read. That's a rule of thumb. But then, your ideas are about at a Dr. Seuss level so why should I assume you'd be able to figure out something that obvious.

Get out of your element more, man. You're starting to wrinkle like the end of a German sausage. Haven't those bike rides opened you up at all?

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Like you, however, they do have one talent that makes them awesome in the minds of the American public though.

chickelit said...

I remember when Chickie called me Flourine.

LOL. You are a delicate little flower at times. :)

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

If I'm as unread as Seth Rogen is unwatched then I'll be a happy man.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Hazzie's comment is funny to me as it reminds me of an admission by someone who wanted love conservative darling Ben Shapiro's book on debating (and crushing!) liberals:

I want to learn our issues in-depth and learn how to defend and even influence others, not to antagonize or cajole democrats only to look foolish when I have no factual information or data.

Lol. O woe is he. What a problem that is. Ha ha ha.

chickelit said...

I think I'm more like phosphorous. Many states. Some reactive, some not. And I combine well.

I once asked you if you were mono-isotopic. I don't recall if you answered. Now you say you're allotropic.

Well it does fit you. Sulfur is good at it. But I'm sure you want to be phosphorus instead-- what with its association with light-bearing and Paracelsus.

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Yes! And Paracelsus was awesome! However, methinks you're tricking me into agreeing that I'm light bearing. In another language that would be "lucifer". Hahaha haha.

But I do like you Chickie and like the allotropy. But let's get our analogies straight, you Christian culture warrior: I'm illuminating. Not that other thing. Lol.

I like how well-read you are, generally. It's surprising Haz tolerates it. He gets vexed reading anything with more lines on it than a dipstick.

bagoh20 said...

If you haven't read "Hard Choices" then you aren't well read. What could be more salient than the carefully laid out thoughts of the smartest woman on Earth, who may soon lead the world? Now get to it, and do your homework. There may be a pop quiz.

chickelit said...

Was one of those "hard choices" peyronic?

Bleach Drinkers Curing Coronavirus Together said...

Peyronic. That's good.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

There is a whole lot of worthless shit that is awesome in the minds of the "American Public". Three Stooges. Honey Boo Boo. Angelina Jolie. Brad Pitt. Obama.

Some performers ARE talented. Some not so much. It is easy to look talented with an entire film crew, makeup crew and a talented editing department behind you.

One talented performer that I used to like until she shot off her mouth at a performance and said that it made her sick to think that Republicans would be in the audience listening to her sing. Really??? You are that partisan that you can't just perform? Willing to take the money though....aren't you bitch?

Linda Ronstadt can kiss my ass.

ndspinelli said...

Well DBQ, Your ass will be soaking wet as her Parkinson's lips slobber all over it. But, I'm sure she'll have plenty of ass to kiss!!

bagoh20 said...

The Three Stooges?

HOW DARE YOU!

I learned everything I know about interpersonal relations from that show. If more people studied the show and it's principles, the Oscars events would be a whole lot more entertaining. Nobody understands shit about how to throw a pie these days.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

Woah!!! Did Spinelli just imply that I have a big butt??

:-)

Happily, I have learned to almost totally ignore Hollywood. The minute a "star" starts talking condescendingly about everyday people, my eyes glaze over and I go read a book.
