explosion, Parchin, Iran

The massive explosion occurred at Parchin military compound in Iran about nineteen miles southeast of Tehran.

Par chin.

The maps, or screenshots, provided the articles do not match. Some maps show some kind of large complex with buildings in a row other photos show a small insignificant site. If the small photo were a puzzle piece it does not fit anywhere in the larger photos. It's like they're faking us out with a stock photos.

What does it matter? Everything over there is brown anyway. Let's see for ourselves.

Wikipedia [parchin, iran] says it is a test range for  liquid propellant missiles. But we cannot believe anything these days. Neither can IAEA, there is a dispute about inspecting the site. The article does provide coordinates: 35°31′38″N 51°46′40″E

Google Maps [parchin, iran]

The place is shown as a patch that goes into a river. It looks like the river is important to the site.

Following the river a brief distance is a lake.

The squiggly writing is sparse, zooming into the lake there is this

Opening Google Earth and entering [jajrood, iran] It's a dam.

Photos pinned on Google Earth indicate the whole area looks dismal. Not a tourist attraction.

It's like Lake Meade back there. I feel like Photoshopping a houseboat.

The coordinates entered into Google Earth mark a spot half way between the dam at Jajrood and Parchin.

This is the place of the coordinates.

This is nearby Parchin

Few pictures are pegged all around. What a bummer.

We learn through pegged photographs in the surrounding towns, the terrain is abysmally monochrome with sporadic features of interest and odd lifeforms, the water is controlled, the area is densely populated in spots, the chief focal point of beauty and serenity is mosques, and the place gets snow. Faked me out on that one, I was not expecting snow.

But what are they doing down there? The explosion blew out windows for miles. Damage to the nearby dam could be catastrophic beyond the direct damage and setback in -- liquid fuels for missiles, is it?

Another casualty in this sensless war, the Parcheesi factory falls victim amid the sectarian feud between Milton Bradley and the Parker Brothers.
