That was the same technique the Plains Indians used to stampede bison off cliffs. They had a boy dress in a bison calf skin and act bizarre in front of the herd and then lead them in the direction of the cliff. When they got close the braves would leap up and spook them off the lip (the boy would run and jump to some braves waiting for him at the edge to a point of refuge).
There is no crowd scene, human or animal, that is not made better by the playing of Yakkety Sax in the background. That's part of the enduring legacy of the Benny Hill program.
