NYT: Filing Misstep May Fell House Veteran Conyers

"For nearly 50 years, John Conyers Jr. has represented Detroit in the House of Representatives. He is the ranking Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee, a founder of the Congressional Black Caucus and the second-longest-serving member of Congress still holding office. But now he may be felled by a political mistake fit for an amateur: His petitions for re-election lack enough valid signatures."

"The misstep has left politicians and constituents amazed. After all, at this point in his career, Mr. Conyers should be a shoo-in, his campaign machine well-honed. He first took office in 1965 during the auto industry’s boom years, long before towering debt and municipal bankruptcy took hold. Many here cannot recall when they were last represented by someone else." (read more)

“We have to ask the obvious question of whether the congressman was set up.”

I'd think the obvious question would be, "Is he losing his facilities at this advanced age?"

Maybe he just figured the fix was in and it didn't matter.

This is Obamamerica, after all.

We should find out who this "we" is. Probably the same nefarious group that sent Conyer's wife away to prison for 3 years.

She's out now, and they should both take some more time together, him being in the autumn of his years. Although with a 40-year age difference, maybe she'd rather he spend the rest of his time in DC.

In ARM's world Conyers never did bad shit and can never do bad shit...because he's not white. Isn't that sweet?

Thaddeus McCotter sends his sympathies.

He was set-up, possibly by his own people, but more likely by the party.

He's 84 and well past his prime.

Another obvious question that wasn't asked is whether or not the petition gatherer rules were enforced in the past.

High quality people running the show in DC. High. Quality.

Yeah whatever.

Isn't it time for a music post?

Why is Chickie making the blog prompts in Doutche?

Check out the cleavage and covers on this one.

At first I thought she was just a pretty face who likes to show her knockers nestled above her guitar, like a thousand other YouTubie Boobies. But (at least on that cover), she actually can sing. At least, it sounds like it to my ear.

YMMV.

Oh God, I cannot escape the guy silently minding his own earwax I mean bizwax.

In 10th grade history class my teacher was mean. We hit it off because I was a total butt licker I mean I was good with difficult personalities at an early age. The girl next to me nudged my arm and silently indicated a known spazoid heavily ridiculed at school but I did not understand why. In that moment she noticed he stuck his pinkie finger into his nose, dug around in there and slipped the finger into his mouth. It was a habit. Apparently. It all became clear. The incident left an indelible scar upon my delicately forming psyche from which I have not fully recovered to this day. And now this ear wax thing. I haven't even seen the video, just the display frame, and its description and comments and now I'm scared all over again reliving the horrors of careless habitual bodily extrusion consumption.

Ritmo,

The guitar curvature was made to fit the female anatomy.

Just like her.

If he screwed this up, isn't it remotely possible that he's screwed other things up? This should be held against him, but it's dispiriting to see that such incompetence attracts not contempt but sympathy. Detroit went belly up and not single one of their elected officials ever heard a harsh word said against them--other than in the indictments.

It's too bad we make such a big deal out of cover songs, but I suppose it's to be expected in a completely star-fuckers society. In any event, with some vocal coaching she might get at least as much audience and performances as the next singing reality tv show winner, but it is kind of funny all the video thumbnails that pop up for the next cover. The channel's kind of like jukebox with, well, additions.

He had double the signatures needed so thought he was safe. Would't you? See, this here is straight up racism. I see these people on a pawn shop show located in Detroit and it is clear the people visiting the shop have a good deal of trouble with proper identification. Time after time they make simple requests to have their possessions taken from them returned to them and in turn are imposed upon to produce their 'ticket' whatever that is. Some document designed by white people to hold minorities down and remove them from their rightful possessions. And now this. Tsk tsk, it's war on minorities all over again. But that's okay. The improper laws slipped into place to pull this stunt will be ignored, and proper representation restored. H8rs.

Actually, it was designed for Charro.

hmmm. On second thought.

This is a grown man in congress sitting in front of a camera. I'll just go with that.

I wonder why Warren Buffett gives 1.2 billion to abortion groups. What has gotten into him? I always imagined him a sweet old man and now I regard him as evil. Why would he waste my regard this way? Why? That must upset terribly at least half his Berkshire-Hathaway group. Don't you think? Geico is my insurance company. This can cause me to look elsewhere. I'm seeing ads all over the place designed specifically for me. I'm considering taking them up. If only I weren't so lazy and so complacent.

He could give me a million, not even feel it, and I'd shut the hell right up. That is how ungrounded I am.

Incredible as this may seem, I think black and white folks are all similarly flawed, all possess a nature contaminated by original sin.

McCotter's white. Also bald.

Maybe we should focus on the follicles.

Trooper York said...

Hey he wants to do the same thing to this country that he did to Detroit.

Something to look forward too right?

A yes, the follicle fallacy.

After the bang-up job he's done helping with Detroit's phenomenal success all these years, let's just rack it up to an act of God.
